Mark is just returning home from studying abroad; he spent almost four years far away. While he was far away, Mark kept in contact with his best friend, Alma; she is his childhood friend and probably much more. But now, a silly mistake threatens to keep them apart; Mark must find a way to sort things out. Mark and Alma can spend time together inside a Virtual Reality (VR) game called "The Void." The Void is a game that promises an immersive Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Role Playing Game (RPG) experience, but something feels off about it... Help our heroes make it through the storm and help them prepare for the monstrous typhoon brewing on the horizon. Game description: Void Divers: Vortex (VD:V) will be an interactive visual novel that will attempt to emulate a VR MMO RPG; we will see events unfold in the VR game and in the heroes' real world. VD:V is based on my first manga/comic but there are many changes around; even if you read my manga/comic you will find many new things in the game. Mark and Alma are best friends, next door neighbors, and partners in crime; the game is a -sort of- prequel spinoff to my manga/comic. NineCrux Posted July 3, 2021 Author Share Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) Upcoming Update! Hey there, I want to let you know about the framework I came up with for the upcoming update. The Void Divers :Vortex demo ends when our heroes are about to enter the starter town. That means the first thing I should do is to build up a starter town scene... yeah, kind of obvious. Mark, Alma, and Sally will be having a look around in town; they want to check the Inn, shops, and crafting stations; I need to make scenes for each location. Each location needs NPCs; named NPCs that will be there to stay, like store owners and quests givers. Building those scenes takes max priority; they will be the base location for most of the new renders. So, first I should build the town, then link store fronts to inside locations (shops, Inn, etc.) It doesn't sound like much but building a big town can be very difficult! I have to think about clutter, NPCs, time needed to render scenes, file size, and I have to make sure I can take different angles with the camera... between other things. I will also be adding sound effects, like coin sounds when you buy something, bottle sounds when you use a potion, attack swings, magic sounds, and more. I actually bought an RPG sound collection to add some nice effects to my game. The following images show my progress building up the starter town. I have been working on the inventory design, layout, and code. I was able to code stack-able items, equip-able items, and the proper logic for consumable items. The design is still a W.I.P. After LONG hours decoding how to make an inventory work on Ren'Py I managed to complete a functional inventory for VD:V. It's kind of funny and frustrating at the same time; there are many functions we take for granted with inventory systems in games but the logic and coding involved to make those functions work can be very difficult. In the inventory I made; items can stack and display it's count on the upper right corner, but only when there is more than one item of the same type, if there is only one item then the count is not shown. Using consumable items decrease the total count and only when the last item is used the item is removed from the inventory... the coding required to create that function was particularly difficult. The code needed to create stores is tied with the specific item count in the inventory and if the specific item exist in the inventory or not. I also had to worry about turning item images into imagebuttons, but just in specific cases, I also had hard time enabling and disabling specific options based on which character was selecting a given item. I added sound effects to equip, unequip, use, and discard; I also added a click sound to the choice menu options... well, there are a couple of things I want to add here and there but my inventory system is, pretty much, complete. Hey there, in VD:V episode 2 I implemented many features that you can find in most RPG games. I made some tweaks to the inventory system; I also built stores where you can buy armors, weapons, potions, and other healing items. I made functional health bars that display your HP and MP on real time; they update every time there are changes to your HP and MP. The health bars also have numerical values, just like in most RPG games. Episode two give us an overview of the game's starter town; you can free-roam the town map at the end of the game to check stores and get a feeling of the open-world style I'm going for. Stores and inventory logic are tangled together; to buy weapons and armor the game first check if you already own the item and if you have enough gold to buy it. If you don't own the item and if you have enough gold then you can buy it; if you already have it or if you don't have enough gold then you can't buy it. Is common and normal behavior in video games but the thing is that I had to decode and implement the logic I just described; it's not something that you can just copy-paste and be done with it. I also made the foundation for an exploration system; next thing I want to do is work on a combat system. The combat system I want to make will resemble those amazing old-school rpg games we all know, like Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross, Breath of Fire, and others. It will be an insane amount of work, but I'm determined to build a combat system that resemble amazing old-school rpg games. In episode 2 you will meet new characters and known characters from my other game. There will be plenty of original characters, like Lily, Nisha, Selene, and many more to come. It's time for a VD: V update; I was thinking about the combat system and decided to add stamina for skill based abilities. Ok, adding stamina... that means a new value to display on the stats screen. Some gear should improve or add stamina... that means editing all the gear stats, even if they don't add stamina the value must be listed in the item class, and also editing the descriptions for the inventory and shops. Some consumable should recover stamina... that means editing all the consumable item classes to add stamina, even if they don't recover stamina the value must be listed, and then editing their store description. I also need a function to recover stamina with consumable items, just like the one that let potions recover HP and MP. Once I'm done adding stamina, I can start brainstorm a combat system and skills that would consume HP, MP, and stamina. I finished adding stamina to the character stats, consumable items, and gear. I'm also adding an idle animation to the inventory/stats screen, that is about 90% done. Here are a few images displaying the new stamina stat; I also added text to game GUI, so players know what bar is what (not sure about that text though.) Building up a combat system for my game has been a challenge; I tried to implement an example I found online but that didn't work. So, I spent LONG HOURS building up a combat system from scratch; after long hours of trial-and-error, I came up with the foundation for a functional turn-based combat system. Now it's time to work on damage calculation, magic, skills, and status effects. And maybe even combat animations! The game also needs a level up system and after-battle rewards. Leveling up characters will require growth formulas... The next VD: V update will not have as many new renders as the last one; 10 to 12 hours coding days will prevent that. I will be expanding and adding combat to the dungeons (grasslands and crypt.) There will be new scenes in episode three, also a couple of spicy events; just keep in mind that episode three will focus on adding new, complex, mechanics to the game. In this episode I'm implementing my own turn based combat system, like I mentioned before, I spent long hours building up a combat system. My combat system is in it's early stages; I plan to expand and improve its features. Future updates will bring more animations, more status effects, special attacks, and a lot more! Is worth mentioning that coding the combat system was brutally challenging... I'm not a coder! Well here is the log. October 1 2021. I have been working on adding combat animations; I completed attack, block, getting hit, spell casting, and win animations for Alma. I will implement Alma's animations first and then I will use her as a template for the rest of the characters. Scene building is going well; is still a lot of work but it's nothing new. Hey there, VD: V episode 4 is out for tier 3 subscribers and up. In this episode I managed to complete a sell items system; the traders will buy items related to their own inventory. The inn will buy potions but only Selene will sell them; Selene will buy food and ingredients but only the inn will sell food. You can sell gear and materials at the armory. I also implemented combat animations. What is new in episode four? Hey there, on February the first I completed a new episode for Void Divers: Vortex, this episode is a bit shorter because on January the 19th I released an update for my other game. I will be putting Void Divers: Vortex on hold. I implemented big changes on my main game; the changes I made require more of my time. I will be focusing on TCND: EX for a few months. Anyway here is what is new in VD: V episode 5: In VD: V episode 5 we will meet Alma's dad and the MCs will have something to tell to each other. Here is the log: February 1 2022 Void Divers: Vortex episode five. They get stuck when they reach this screen: Let's review the dialog just before reaching that screen... As you can see, they mention that all you must do to open the inventory is click or touch their portraits... Yeah, those portraits... The ones that you can see here: To advance all you have to do is to click or touch the portraits... Click. Touch. That shows you the inventory: In the inventory you can equip gear, use items, and check your stats. The story will resume after you close the inventory. Void Divers: Vortex is an interactive visual novel; you can buy new gear, and consumable items. You will also find turn-based rpg battles; that means that the game will require your input... I hope this small guide can help people who didn't know what to do... ...surreal! Link to comment

Mark: "Ok, I'll wait for season two." ) Today I'm releasing two more episodes for my VD: V Demo! That is the whole game so far! VD: V can now be enjoyed for free! Important note: VD:V does not, and it will not, feature NTR; in Selene's scene Mark saves her just before any sexual contact happened. Mark just met her and he doesn't have a relationship with her; at that point in the game, she has not been presented as a romance option; therefore, there is no NTR even if something sexual happened... Demo Version 0.5.1 Added two more episodes! Yeah, the whole game so far. Keep in mind that this game is designed for PC/MAC, the Android version is a port, if you play it on smart phones you will find typical engine limitations. Android gameplay will be more enjoyable on a tablet.
