Visual Glitch in the skies (hard to describe, I'll provide screenshots inside)

I'm have a glitch that is kinda annoying, but I was 'living with it' for years, because it only happened in SOME places.

Mostly in Sanctuary.

I have to say - it's not related to any weather mods, I tested it with and without mods (on a completely clean copy of the game)

Most likely - it's related to some more general video setting of the game itself.

I'm using a 1080 Nvidia GFX card, standard Nvidia driver for my Win 10.

In the game it looks like animated ...errr something ... errr.. don't know what, in the sky.

VERY annoying.

Any idea what I should turn off to get rid of this crap?

P.S. It's not related to the day/night cycle, nor to the weather conditions, it can appear in any weather and time.

In addition, It's NOT related to the size of the base I build. For example it tend to happen in Sanctuary and in County Crossing, but it never happens on Spectacle Island, even though my base there is INSANE.

I'm trying to fix it on and off for couple of years by now :)))

Please help!!!

Have you tried disable groups of mods?

I tried it on a clean game install . No mods at all.

It's a bug of the game itself, no connection to mods.

The second pic kinda looks like what I see sometimes from the wet effects mod obviously not however if this shows up on a vanilla install.

The first is odd, in the first example if you console tfc 1 does the perspective of it change with your view of the sky?, or does it stay in the same place on your screen?

The first looks like it might be tied to the sky box the second looks like a effect.

no-no, you misunderstood, it's not a static glitch, it's a dynamic one, meaning it looks like... I don't really know how to explain... like a constantly transforming ink spot (also it's white), It's not static, mate, it's something animated. And it's all around you in the game, it's not a 'flat' effect, it has volume.

So I disabled all the env mods (I actually had better environment mod) so now I don't have anything that in any way connected to environment.

And I made a series of screens without moving, so you'll be able to see it's dynamic.

See what I mean? it's not static at all.

And it happens to me in a vanilla (no mods at all, zero, fresh install) game as well.

It almost always happens in Sanctuary. Very rarely in other places (very rarely). But in Sanctuary  - it will happen 50% of the time I go there.

It's REALLY annoying :)

Backup your entire Fallout 4 for safekeeping. Make sure to backup your saves and configs from My Documents\My Games\Falllout4\ as well.

Reinstall from a fresh download. Test. Even if testing means you literally run back and forth between Sanctuary and Starlight Drive In for an hour.

If it doesn't do it again, it's not your video card/drivers, it's something you did. Start reinstalling mods one at a time. Anything that affects visual effects, weather, textures, or meshes goes to the top of the list. Every mod you install, test again. Start a new game and run back and forth for 15 minutes or an hour or whatever.

Force the cells to load and unload to see if you get your glitch.

Also, video would be more helpful than a series of stills. The 1080 has NVENC so can pretty effortlessly dump video while you're playing. A list of your installed mods would be helpful as well. Something in there might be "known" to cause glitches.

Are you saying this also happens on a vanilla no modded game, started with FO4 launcher?

"it's not related to any weather mods" How many are you using exactly? You should be using only 1 and try to move it up the load order.

Are you sure its something with video settings? Because you say its like this for years. Definitly caused by mods. What i am seeing is something like water and I know that NACX has a bug with water that stays on the height of the PC's feet. NACX can also cause some texture problems if not moved up the load order with certain outfits.

What i am trying to say it that some mod is causing this problem. Whether its a weather mod or a mod that enhance the fx. Impossible to guess without a Load order.

Also, did you uninstalled any weather mods or scirpted mods during your playthrough? I never advise someone to re install their entire game because thats just stupid and a waste of time, but in your case (assuming you already tested new game with FO4 launcher)

But if this happens on vanilla game, you might want to check for driver updates and re install the game.

By the looks of it, it looks like you uninstalled some mods that kept some fx in the game and now you are stuck with it.

The biggest problem is - it's not something that happens often, meaning i can play the game for literally months and never see it.

Then out of the blue - it hits again. And next day - nothing again, everything I perfect.

Really weird,  if you ask me :))))

I can not duplicate this bug anymore. It's very hard to test something that appears once in a blue moon and only in 2 specific locations :)))

I have the same issue, it stays when I save and quit. I thought it had something to do with the mod "build your own pool" but I'm not sure anymore.

It's not BYOP. I use it all the time and I've never seen that effect from it
