iggypop1 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Hi Ive got a new computer and would like to transfer my oblivion setup to the new one. The old computer is running with XP the new one with 7 64 bit. Is it possible to transfer( with mods an all) instead of reinstalling the hole lot? I think gregahit ansvered this question before but cant find it atm. Should i install oblivion on the new one and then overwrite it? and what about my tools: OBMM wryebash It would be nice if somebody could help me with this (explained for dummies) Thanx Iggy
gregathit Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 If you have the disc version then yes, install oblivion normally on your new computer (the Win7 one). Then copy paste the oblivion folder from your XP machine directly to the Win7 one and overwrite everything. You will also need to copy the files\folders from your XP my documents folder to the Win7 machine. After that you should be good to go.
Veta Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Even if he has the steam version couldn't he just copy the data folder ?
gregathit Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Even if he has the steam version couldn't he just copy the data folder ? Yes, having steam it is even easier as he just needs to install steam and then copy\paste the steamapps folder. Depending on how many steam games he has this may be a start the process before going to bed and let it go overnight. I myself am a bit of a steam whore and have a bit shy of 1TB in my steam folder. That makes for quite the long data transfer.......
Someone92 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 If you're using a mod manager find out were it saves its config files and copy them too, that you'll have way less hassle afterwards.
Asylianna Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I recently tried this, and having gone through all these steps (with OBMM and NMM both reading my mods as properly installed), I'm still having problems getting it to run. I get a CTD as soon as the oblivion in-game loading screen appears. Any suggestions?

Asylianna Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 DIsc, and both the managers still seem to work. I may have reinstalled NMM, but I don't think I did and it works fine with Skyrim, which I have on Steam and copied over the same way. If I reinstall OBMM, am I in danger of over-writing my installed mods? MBP causes serious headaches for me having to decompress on my main disc (which I can never quite get the 8ish gigs it needs free to decompress and copy to destination, iirc). Also, very sorry if this is semi-incoherent. Am half awake working on a deadline.
gregathit Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 NMM and OBMM don't work together. When you install NMM it breaks OBMM as it uses the same config file.
Asylianna Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Damn. :/ Thanks for the heads up though. (I was noticing it was doing some odd things last night.) For some reason I'm not finding Shivering Isles in my loadorder now though... Are there any known issues with simply copying it over as well? (Edit) I'm a moron. It's DLCShiveringIsles... 300 entries on my mod list, tiny type on my monitor, and eyestrain from finals are taking their toll on my ability to effectively follow installation instructions.
