liquidised Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 I have VX, and want to change the image shown on the TV in 'Hotel 1' (top floor). For the life of me, I can't figure it out. The only place I can see a file to change is: Import>Import001>Images>Images>Q=Tex032M>Luder>Room>Hotel01. The file there is: Telek_col.png, and a txf extension of the same name. I copied the original, replaced the screen with a personal image in Adobe, and then replaced the new image in the same location. My VX install downloaded from here came with some pre-installed content, presumably stored at: Archives>2.158.001. In there are ZIP and IDX files for Images, Scenes, Scripts, Sounds. What am I doing wrong/what else can I try? Am I being an idiot? Yes, probably. Thanks for reading.
EJAX Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 The program has file protection, which is preventing you from changing anything. It IS possible, but I'll get my head chewed-off if I tell you how. What you need is an ActiveMod version of the Hotel. I'm sure you can find a few hundred around here if you look through the uploads. Or you can create one simply enough by extracting the image and txf files from images.zip (it'll let you do that much) and putting them in a folder in AM. You'll need to add the room prefix to the filenames so the program can find them (e.g., bags_col.png now becomes Room_Hotel01_bags_col.png). A bulk renamer will save you many hours. Oh, and one thing I learned the hard way about VX's file protection is that if you DO modify the zips, it changes the last modified timestamp and now none of your ActiveMods will load. So if that happens, then you're probably going to have to restore the original. That will probably mean reinstalling, unless you can remember the original timestamp and have a system utility , or have made a backup. I'm not sure whether turning off file protection in OptionsManager will fix that or not (oops, I wasn't supposed to tell you about that).
