Neverwinter Nights questions

Just found Neverwinter Nights and have played ADWR many hours.  Great game. I read on a post

here about some people who had tried to mod ADWR. I downloaded one mod and it was good.
I haven't tried my hand at modding since Sims2, but I  have a few ideas I would like to see

in ADWR. What do you use for modding ADWR? or any NWN games. I have seen some posts

about a toolset but I don't see that when I open NWN. I don't have NWN2. Thanks.

Yes, there is a toolset option in the launcher. If I remember correctly, it is second or third button in the launcher, as well as being available in your installation directory. As for modding A Dance with Rogues(first or second part), I see no point in doing it since the mod is great the way it is made. True, there are things you can possibly improve, but those are beyond my skill.

Thanks, I have been using the nwmain.exe to start the game. When I went to program files,

I found the toolset. I really don't plan on starting with ADWR. There are a few games that

are not finished I thought I would just try my hand at. I will have to do some study before I

even start.  Thanks again.

I would also look at Demonhearts. Chapter one is almost ready and you can play the prologue now. Its one of the most promising NWN mods since adwr

Also if you are in to RP there have been a lot of great Adult RP servers over the years. The current one is Sinfar and its pretty friendly, easy to level, and supportive of most fetishes.

You should know that ADWR is a mod in and of itself, not a full game, and you'll need to get permission from the creator to mess with it unless you want a lot of drama.

I am also working on a project in NWN. Its one of the most user friendly and powerful toolsets ever done. I don't want to advertise what I am doing yet, as I can be really fickle, and I want to make sure I get lots of headway before gettting hopes up.

I went to the sinfar site and had trouble registering. At the end of the register process, it

asks for a password and it says it can be found in two different forums. Neither forum is listed

on the page that I go to. One forum is called "how to get into the world" or something like that.
I forget what the other one is called. I can't register.

Also, I am not sure how you RP.  Are you in the NWN land?   Don't understand what is happening.

I'm reasonably certain that you need to connect to the NWN server, and that info will then be in the first area you enter.

...reasonably certain because, as I don't have an... *cough* internet-ready... version of NWN, I wasn't able register myself (back when sinfear was first mention in this thread I tried take a look at the boards etc to figure out whether getting an... internet-ready <_<... version of NWN would be worth it, but since I couldn't even register I put that into the "maybe someday" file).

And it's a custom world.

Yah that is worded weird.

By board they don't mean a forum but literally a plank of wood. There is a welcome area in the game that you spawn into when you log into the game that does not require any of the hakpacks and things.  The board they are referring to is an actual sign in this welcome area. Read the sign for the password. Its really confusing I know.

So!

I am going to start a new topic and show everyone exactly how to go about logging into this thing!

I'll spread this here as well:  What I think we really need is to create a mod that makes the main 'Neverwinter Nights' campaign more adult... much more adult.

That's the only thing that could get me to play it. If that... I swear, I tried, so hard to get into the campaign. Finally did the first "four things" of first part. "Aha!" I thought, "Now I will get into the real game!" I got to the next part. "You must find four things."

Then I googled up the full campaign, and saw it was just that, over and over again. No thanks. >.< But yeah, I did find that one girl that asked for gold if she could come with you. Wow did that scream adult possibilities. Whether her actually coming with you, or her not, and you hunting her down and having your revenge. Of course, I'd be much more excited for female character possibilities...

The full campaign was never designed to be up to snuff with what Bioware usually does. Bioware put all their efforts into the toolset. Also the toolset was not designed for altering the main campaign, but rather to make your own campaigns. Messing with the main campaign can cause...major issues and is not recommended. The NWN toolset is differant than the Bethesda toolsets in that it is less about modding a current experience and more about about making your own. Think of it as a story telling engine. I feel NWN is more of a development tool than an actual game, and the "Mods" you make with it are less mods and more mini games.

Rest assured MisterH that the toolset can in fact be used to alter the main campaign files quite safely.  Just be sure to save it as a seperate mod file.

Actually, thk1, I myself have done some altering of HotU without saving it as a separate file and it worked like a charm. To be honest, I only added one armoire with some overpowered armors and weapons to the game and that is all. My point is: you can save it as an original campaign and not as a separate file. When you have done playing with the toolset and want to save, use the Ctrl-S shortcut or use Save button (NOT Save As) and it will save it without the need to name it something different.

Yah I suppose I am being paranoid, but I would not save over the original files. If I were to alter the MC I would save it as a custom module.

Diamond edition is only ten dollars. http://www.gog.com/gamecard/neverwinter_nights_diamond_edition and even does on sale sometimes for 5$ usd. Don't mind all the negative reviews of the original campaign. The real content is user created.

Hold up wkbuilder!  If there is a campaign to play through then I would recommend 'Hordes of the Underdark'.  It is VERY GOOD!  So yeah, if you do have to play through a campaign, play this one.  It's an epic-tier adventure that really sucks you in.  Also, if you play it the right way...

you marry both Aribeth and Nathyrra

.

Either way, play Hordes of the Underdark if you haven't already.

I would also recommend the "Hordes of the Underdark" campaign. Kingmaker is basicly worthless (3 "mods" where one or 2 are only half made and the last one is way to short to be considered a mod).

I might go ahead and try Hordes, then.  Especially since we're still waiting on the final releases of Celeritas Eos, Demonheart, Gladiatrix III, etc.

I also tried the OC.  And it wasn't just the lack of adult content...it just didn't interest me enough to finish it.  And you're right, the real joy of NWN is all the user created content that one can play via the NWVault.   Some truly fine stuff out there.  But naturally I gravitate towards the adult stuff.  :)

Thanks for the mention of "Hordes".  Will check it out again.

The OC feels like i'm playing an old grindy MMO, but with out the social element. Its just go here, kill this, or go to this dungeon and spend and hour mindlessly hacking through monster filled corridors until you reach a boss.  Rinse and repeat 50 times.
