I don't know about blending but I do know the easiest way to transfer something from one .dds to another one is to use paint-net (which is free to use).

You can load multiple files into it at one time and then click the one you want to take something from and transfer it to your other file by trying to use the magic wand. Keep in mind that the wand doesn't always work great especially if a lot if the colors around the area that you want to transfer are similar in color.

But if the spot you want to take only highlights then you just have to go to edit - copy/cut whichever you want to use and then click the one you want to transfer it to and select edit - paste.

You can click on the pasted item and move it around and around the outside of the transfered piece are some dots that you can use the scale the piece to the correct size you want. You can then use the save as to overwrite the .dds file.

If you click the spot that you want to transfer and more areas then the spot you want become highlighted you'll then first have to load a copy of that file into gimp2 and use the lasso tool to cut out everything that you don't want  to get highlighted when you click on the spot with the magic tool.

Once you have everything deleted out you can then load that file into paint-net and use the magic tool and copy and paste it.
