A beginner answer to the whole body type thing

EDIT: Not my intention to sound demeaning (might just be too paranoid about that), and also if this needs moved to support I'm sorry I popped it here, just felt like a more general question. Apologies if this was wrong.

I'm coming back into modding after many months away and trying to get back to body types. Can someone give either a link to what I'm asking, or explain the difference between the following:

  • CBBE SE
  • CBBE 3BBB
  • CBBE 3BA
  • CBBE SMP
  • CBBE 3BBB SMP

And do things like this just overlap and mod authors just assume we know which type they are referencing? The way I see it 3BA is it's own thing and can potentially work with 3BBB? But then I see armors with "both CBBE SMP/3BA" and then mods that are "CBBE SE/3BBB/SMP" and have no idea what I should be doing. Help? Not to be too condescending but this is why I stuck to BHUNP and UUNP before. If you need me to clarify on any of the above let me know. I just want to give CBBE stuff a shot after a looooong time of others and am just so confused by many armor mod descriptions (not just here). Thank you in advance

Roughly speaking these are different iterations of the same body type with different nodes and physic implementations.

CBBE SE -> CBBE SMP (3BBB) -> CBBE 3BBB

  • CBBE SE is the base body, has sliders to build different shapes and adjust things in Bodyslide. Can work with basic physics (like CBP or CBPC) if the body or outfit set has physics.
  • CBBE SMP (3BBB) add two new things to the mix. First it comes with 3BBB (a new set of bones for better breast physics) and support for HDT-SMP physics (and is not compatible with CBP or CBPC).
  • CBBE 3BBB (formerly known as "CBBE 3BBB Advanced" and also referred as "3BBB Amazing" as that's the name this body set has in Bodyslide) improves the previous 3BBB implementation and also adds support for CBPC. So now you can have a CBBE type body with 3BBB bones and use both CBPC and HDT-SMP at the same time (or switch between them in game at the press of a button).
    • To get CBBE 3BBB you still need the base CBBE SE, if you're using CBBE morphs for racemenu, there is a plugin (in the same CBBE 3BBB installer) to merge the base CBBE SE morphs with the new CBBE 3BBB morphs for Racemenu.

That's how I understand it (from description/personal experience). And yes, that's a lot of acronyms to remember and people may refer to some stuff using different acronyms and names, but in time you'll get the gist of it. I know UNP things just by name but I think I got it figured out... mostly.

That's a fair explanation, thank you very much! And yes it gets very muddled especially when looking for what bodies to use with what armors and what bodyslide presets will jive with armors, etc. And the whole CBBE SE/3BBB SMP/3BA/back to just 3BBB just gets nuts and difficult to follow. Would be appreciated if anyone else can chime in as well, the more knowledge in one place the better, in my opinion. Thanks again!

This gives me a base to start with, and I know it mainly comes down to physics, nodes and adjustments with BodySlide so I'm good there (or I think I am, will see how it goes). And it seems like CBPC and SMP will play nicely together with the correct setup (a similar situation with BHUNP), but I feel that helps me wrap my head around the types a little bit better.
