TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I was curious if is possible to make a racemenu face from a photo. I've searched Google and found one disappointing video from a few years back (lots of blah-blah and then skipped to the end result without showing how it was done). I saw a reddit post that said, yeah it's possible, but it's not easy and you'll need to use blender. The other videos I've seen show people free-handing it with racemenu scupt. That's great for the artistic types who can free-hand on paper. But what about the rest of us who couldn't even free-hand a stick figure without help? Are there any new techniques or packages we could use? I don't mind learning how to use blender. Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe I'm not asking the right questions?
anjenthedog Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 There are, afaik some tools that have been developed for the 3D printing hobby/industry that can use 2-D photos to construct a 3D head model. So that's the only hint I can offer. I know nothing beyond that.
TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Yep. The more I'm looking at this, there tools out there that can be used for this purpose if you want to shell out a few hundred dollars. The free or demo versions have been removed -- I guess they were free while the owners were working out the bugs. I have a day job, so it's going to take me a while to learn how to do things the hard way. Photo -> blender -> Racemenu.

Ironically enough, a mod was just posted to Nexus the other day for the purpose (although it does apparently require a commercial app of some sort to make it all "go") https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/41094

I took a look at that and came to a screeching halt when I saw the commercial app costs a few hundred dollars. And frankly, I'm making maybe three faces tops. That in no way justifies a few hundred dollars out of my pocket. I'm monitoring the comments in the event that some major breakthroughs are made.
anjenthedog Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 same. normally I wouldn't complain, but a long bout with sciatica and covid's effect on employment have killed my finances.
walkingwounded Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Was going to post a link to the same mod too, but yeah, cost is a factor. I only see photo face conversion being useful (to myself) if someone offers conversions at about $5-10 a face with an unrestricted/fair use license (or equivalent). Obviously the one making the conversions would have to have some skill in making the final face work and look right in-game for this to be a viable venture, but it could happen.
