HOW TO INSTALL

If you use some kind of mod manager and tend to unpack BSAs or something, this mod should be lower than Convenient Horses.

If you install mods manually, then... well, just make sure you actually have Convenient Horses.

WHAT IT DOES

It lets you skip all the immersive bullshit of leveling your horse and get it to full power super quickly.

At first I just wanted to lower how much exp is required for each level.
Had to give up, because those values get stored in savefile, so it would only work on a new game.
Instead, I'm changing how much horse exp you get for doing horse stuff. Edited variables are:
• TrainingExperienceAmountRunning - horse running, value 1→1000
• TrainingExperienceAmountSprinting - horse sprinting, value 2→2000
• TrainingExperienceAmountCharge - horse charging enemies, value 10→10000
• TrainingExperienceAmountWhistle - you using Horse Whistle, value 20→20000

I also included a small tweak to speed bonus. Max is no longer some weird 145%, but 150% now.

 

HOW IT WORKS

Required exp is 1000 initially, and then every next level requires 125% of the previous one.
There are 10 levels total and you start at level 1, so you level up 9 times, so (some math here) ~7450 for the last level, and a sum of ~33252 for all of them.
Basically, whistle 2 times for max level. You're welcome.

 

I say ~, because the math gives us fractions. Actual exp for level 10 should be 7450.580597, for example.
The game seems to round it down however, so without an extensive study I can only tell you approximate values. And why would you even care about precise values.
Anyway, the sum of all levels is *approximately* 33252, which is a whole lot less than 40000 you get by whistling 2 times. Good enough.

 

SIDE NOTE

Actually, you don't need my mod all the time. Once you've reached max level, you can just go and remove my files.

COMPATIBILITY

Keep in mind, that while I modify very little here, I do so by editing a Convenient Horses script that does a whole lot.

Use it with Convenient Horses v7.0.1.0 (the newest version as of today) - using any other version may break a whole lot of things.

If there ever comes a newer version of Convenient Horses, do NOT use my mod until I update it to work with the newest version. (If I don't update it, it means I'm dead, married, or out of modding for some other reason.)

 

Other than that, since my mod is just a slight modification of Convenient Horses, it has the same compatibility with things as Convenient Horses.

Switch to Immersive AFT, then go to iAFT MCM and disable handling horses by iAFT.

Let Convenient Horses handle horses for followers.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then I don't know what will.

I got kicked out of Nexus - specifically for mentioning Loverslab.

You can still find my profile there, same name, but I'm banned for life.

I don't think Nexus deserves my efforts. I can safely mention Nexus here. You can't mention Loverslab there. I'm not a fan of censorship.

Cheers mate, I have added a post telling people to search google for your mod name. I suppose censorship is related to underaged children, and I can understand that, although if that rule applies, many mods should be removed from Nexus. So it seems they use rules only when they want.

So, uh. There's a new version. 7.1. I was overhauling my LO in MO2, and as I was updating mods (about 700 or so)....I found that CH was updated in Jan of '22. 

 

 

I'd like to update, but I'd also like to continue using your mod. So, here's hoping you're not dead, and if you're married...they understand that this mod needs an update.

I am indeed recently married... Who would have thought it would come to that...

In any case, while not physically dead, I'd write myself as dead in terms of modding. Despite my best efforts and trying since December 2022 I just don't have the time to sit down to it. I don't have Skyrim set up on my computer.

 

As a workaround, you could simply use older version of Convenient Horses when you start the game, whistle 2 times to fully level up your horse, and then just install the newest version of Convenient Horses. My mod is just a modification of 1 file of Convenient Horses and can be safely uninstalled (even though for most mods uninstalling them usually means problems - for this mod it's 100% fine).

 

I feel bad for not being able to update my mod, so (considering that my mod is actually a very small change to the code) I coded a source code for newest version (v.7.1) - but somebody has to compile it.

I'm attaching the source code, it covers the main release and the Anniversary Edition content Patch.

(Special Edition Patch doesn't contain CHQuestScript.psc and as such doesn't need to be covered by my mod.)

If you compile it successfully, please send it to me. I will upload it here as new version and credit you as co-author. That would benefit the community.

Keep in mind, I literally just dragged the script into PCA and hit go. Not sure if I need to update my CK/Scripts (probably), or if I need to fix some config (everything seems pointed right tho) stuff. I'll try plugging away at it when I have some time over the next couple days.

Welp. Okay. Got it done. I forgot to unpack the CH .bsa, hence all "can't find anything" errors.

 

Clean compile, no errors. I'll let you repackage it as you like, and upload to the main mod page. However, when I tested in game, it did not seem to have any effect. I'm going to do more testing, but...here at least is the compiled source as requested.

Yeah, I started a fresh game, mounted a horse, set it all up....rode for a little bit, and had a whopping 7% experience. Im just guessing but maybe the author added some kind of sanity checking? Or maybe I should set the values higher. I'm not getting quick experience at all.

Yeah, I think there's some kind of sanity check in 7.1. Using your CHQuestScript, I added a zero to each of the training exp values, recompiled and...

 

Using a horse I can get from outside the Helgen cave, riding from there to the Mage Stone....7%. This is with your stock script, and with the values I changed. It seems like somehow those values are now meaningless? It's weird.

 

I could of course, roll back to 7.0 and see if it's my LO. I'll do that next.

 

Edit #2: Ayup. Rolling back to 7.0 and your 1.1 works fine. I think there may have been other changes made to 7.1, which are inhibiting the change of those values. It's bizarre. Maybe he added some min/max acceptable values, or some other sanity checking. Seems like the kind of thing someone would do, if they wrote a mod which charges you 500 gold to avoid the tutorial and start it without a grind.

 

I'll poke through it a bit more, see if I can find out what's up. In the meantime, I guess you could post my compile, see if anyone else wants to test it.

@WandererZero I'm sorry to hear that... As you've seen, my code compiles with no errors, so if it doesn't work as intended, then it's not a matter of a typo or any other stupid mistake like that.

Must be some fundamental changes to how the changed variables are handled. That means a deep analysis of the entire mod and a lot of testing would be required. Sadly that's beyond my capacity at the moment.

I really like the mod, the only (little) problem is that the convenient horses quest doesnt start on a new game. This is fixed with enbaling this mod after the quest is started and finished or using a command to start the quest. Thanks for the mod.
