Rokabur Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Is there something I'm missing when it comes to opening SkyrimSE meshes in Nifskope? When I open a mesh in Nifskope, I get a small window with lots of warnings and when I close that small window there's no mesh displayed in Nifskope and so I can't edit the mesh. I can open SKyrimLE meshes just fine but SkyrimSE there seems to be something I'm missing.
VersuchDrei Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Do you have the latest version? Works fine for me.
Rokabur Posted September 14, 2020 Author Posted September 14, 2020 Latest as far as I can find unless I'm missing something. I even looked around for updates when I switched to SkyrimSE.
anjenthedog Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 I'm running Nifscope version 2 dev 7. Works fine. (edit: ftr, works fine with meshes for Skyrim 1.5.97, SKSE64 2.0.17 )

Hmm... interesting. tbh, I doubt it makes any difference, (ie, I'd guess you should still be looking for another reason things are gumming up) but it may be one of those hidden reasons I was afraid to make the change. You *could swap out 2.0.19 for 2.0.17 and see for yourself. Afaik, from implications in replies I've gotten to queries about "why should I update to 2.0.19", they should theoretically be interchangeable until the next game update comes out, if and or when it does., although I can't say either way. SO far, all the mods I've attempted to install recently have worked just fine with 2.0.17. If it works, great...if not, just swap back out for SKSE64 2.0.19

Before you "panic" and revert to 2.0.19, try opening nifscope on its own then open a mesh. It might just be a path reference issue. (ie the default link dropped back to Creation Kit.) (of course I don't really mean panic, you know what I mean)

Huh... that's strange. I have no idea why that would be, but it sounds like an OS issue, not a skyirm issue Try rebooting your system and then re-associated the file extension with nifskope. Are you on Windows 10 or win 7? But this *is* a good start, since you've reported that you're now able to load the meshes. Which is good. Of course, let's also make sure you can open the game successfully once you reboot. Fixing the one and breaking the other wouldn't be too cool...

Fixing the one and breaking the other wouldn't be too cool... I actually already rebooted my PC and the meshes refuse to allow any program other then Creation Kit 2.0 as the default program to open them. Edit-turns out the problem was because I had deleted the old Nifscope without uninstalling while the new Nifskope was just extract and use. Ran my Revo Uninstaller and got rid of the left over files of the olf Nifskope and the meshes finally let me assign the new Nifskope as the default program.
anjenthedog Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 So all is well now? Game still works and nifskope is doing its job correctly? And under 2.0.19 or 2.0.17?

Far as I can tell, even when I directed the meshes to use the updated Nifskope, it was still using the 1.1.3 version I installed back in 2014. Seems installed programs have priority over other programs regardless of what you assign? Cause of how many mods I have with the ESL, SkyrimSE actually goes (Not Responding) for up to 10 seconds when loading the house or other area I enter.

Everything is working fine now unless something crops up after more playtime. Can't believe all this trouble because a file type refused to associate with the (updated) program I wanted lol.
anjenthedog Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 It can be a real pisser, no? Then again, a small obstruction in the fuel line of an automobile can stop it dead in its tracks... I'm glad everything 's working. Now, be sensible and don't screw around with it (much) for a while and instead just play. We all bought this thing to play Skyrim, not to play "Configure and debug! The latest greatest thing in modern gaming!!!! ... right?
