Hair sliders crash racemenu

Recommended Posts

I had a bunch of hdt hair packs and HG hairs installed. then i switched from the HDT framework to BHUNP and now my game crashes when i start picking hairs. if i move along my slider more than 2-4 hairs, it crashes. Also hdt hairs are bugging out extremely. now i use strictly hdt wigs and just pick a random racemenu hair by clicking on the slider to be stuck with.

Install ShowRaceMenu preCacheKiller plugin

I was under the impression that this fix is already included in the latest version of Racemenu although I can't find confirmation of that in the description on the nexus, just people saying that on the page for ShowRaceMenu Precache Killer (a bit confusing to read those posts as some are also bringing up SSE engine fixes in an LE mod thread).

Does this do the same thing as "DisableFaceGenCache" as described on the Racemenu description?

If you experience crashing while opening the menu please consider acquiring the optional download DisableFaceGenCache (integrated as of version 2.7+, no longer necessary). This is an SKSE plugin that disables caching of FaceGen parts that can crash your game if you have many hair/eye/brow mods installed.

I never cared about that one to be honest... I am no modder, just playing the game. I have installed ShowRaceMenu preCacheKiller plugin and have no problems with hair... but if you install bunch of hair mods and if you change the hair (in racemenu) too quickly, that can crash the game sometimes... But, as I said, I am just a player and stating my experience with the game. If you want more technical explanation for that matter you should wait for experienced modders to respond to your question.

I found a fix that works for me...

Having the same issue, scrolling through hair options at initial character set up.

I'm running with Skyrim AE (1.6.353), SKSE (64 / 2.1.5) MO2 (2.4.4 / Rev 1df1ea5e / usvfs 0.5.6.0)

I wanted to use hair sytles with physics.  Picked a few that looked cool, and followed the requirements.  I was already using Racemenu, and had the Bodyslide and Outfit Studio set up too.  Working backwards for the hair mods I picked for requirements got me to the outline below, and the listing is more how I sorted things out, rather than any specific load order.  But did help find a solution.

Some of the requirements and sub-requirements are a bit messy, and seem like big mess of bad sticky spaghetti.

A)  RaceMenu: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19080
Requirements - None listed - All ready installed

First hair mod
B)  HDT-SMP Physics Racemenu Hairs and Wigs Unisex - Male and Female - CBBE 3BA - BHUNP - HIMBO:
           https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/56583
        Requirements - The spaghetti list
            1.  BodySlide and Outfit Studio: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/201
Requirements - None Listed - All ready installed
            2.  HDT-SMP (Skinned Mesh Physics): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30872
                    Requirements -
                        a.  XP32 Maximum Skeleton Special Extended - XPMSSE
                               https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1988
                                    * Requires FNIS:  Fores New Idles in Skyrim SE - FNIS SE
                                       https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3038
                                    * Requires SKSE
                        b.  SKSE - http://skse.silverlock.org/
            3.  Racemenu:  See above
            4.  Yundao Hair with physics SSE: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18566
                    Requirements -
                        a. HDT-SMP:  See above
                        b. RaceMenu:  See above

Second hair mod
C)    KS Hairdos - HDT SMP (Physics): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/31300
        Requirements -
            1.  HDT-SMP (Skinned Mesh Physics): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30872
            2.  RaceMenu:  See above
            3.  SKSE64:  See above

Changing out mods created a mess of trial and error.  Nothing was working, and for lack of a better term, poorly structured queries of my "google-fu" were not successful... Many options lised down grading, but somehow I came across this:

D)  Faster HDT-SMP: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57339

*BOOM*  Fixed.

In the files section, second main file, it lists:

    AE: Skyrim 1.6.353 - SKSE 2.1.5
    SE: Skyrim 1.5.97 - SKSE 2.0.20
    VR: Skyrim 2.0.12 - SKSE 2.0.12

I swapped out "HDT-SMP" for "Faster HDT-SMP" and I am now able to browse through the list of available hair styles.

As with all things, my experience is just that and your milage may vary.  I hope this is helpful.

Normal rules apply here...

    1. Sort your load order
    2. Crashes happen, don't forget to breathe
    3. Have fun
    6. Always look fabulous!

Happy adventuring.

ps. Who cares about the rules, except for rule number 6?
