embdude Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I need advice on how best to make a move... After 8 years of my win7 computer I am getting a new win10 computer. I would like to keep my mods and be able to move them to the new computer. I have my game setup with MO2 and followed the steps in the top sticky post of the Skyrim SE forum. These included the following: 01. Steam Library & Skyrim SE Updates 02. BethINI 03. Mod Organizer 2 - The first look 04. Skyrim Script Extender 05. A few mods, just to make this work 06. LOOT 07. FNIS 08. BodySlide 09. SSE Edit 10. First in game test 11. Mod Organizer 2 - A second look 12. Adding support for HDT-SMP (Optional) 13. Updating Skyrim SE, SKSE and your mods I would like to avoid having to redo all the steps as much as possible.
Just Don't Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Yes, you can keep your entire MO2 folder. You'll need to modify the executable paths you added to MO once you reinstall everything else (Steam/Skyrim, LOOT, etc). Edit: to be more specific: you'll need to change the "Managed Game" path and check that the "Base Directory" matchs the MO2/Mod Organizer 2 folder path that you're using in your new computer. You can find these settings in MO Settings -> Paths. Then in the Modify Executables, you'll need to modify the "Binary" path for each executable in the left list. And I guess you'll also want to keep your save games, so copy the "...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition" folder and place it in your new documents folder.
embdude Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Ok so I forgot I run skyrim from a portable ssd... I have Steam on the Win7 PC HD, but Skyrim and MO2 are both on the Portable drive... Could it be as easy as just installing steam on the new win10 machine and plugging in the SSD? or are there still files on my Win7 HD that I will need as well?
Just Don't Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 You might need to configure your new Steam install to recognize your portable SSD files as a valid Steam Library. I would install Steam and the game in the new computer just for safe measure. The only thing that you'll need to do again after that is installing the SKSE exe and dll files in your new Skyrim SE folder inside Steam. To recap, this is what I would do Make a copy of my MO2 folder. If you followed my guide you should have a working folder too (with MO2 and other tools such as SSE Edit, LOOT, etc.), you can copy that whole folder too to avoid doing some downloads again. Make a copy of my Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition folder. Reinstall Steam and the game in the new computer. Launch the game at least once. Add the SKSE exe and dll. Place MO2 or your whole working folder, reinstall LOOT. Open MO2 and check the different executable paths and the other directory paths to match your new folder structure.
embdude Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 Thank you! and thanks again for the excellent tutorial!!!
Just Don't Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 You're welcome. If you run into any trouble after moving things to the new computer and trying what I covered above, let me know (quote or mention me using @user_name so I get a notification). I might have forgotten some step. Moving existing installs between different drives is not something I do often.
Kristus Kringle Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I just did it. Built a new machine and moved the old drive to the new one, that was it. I didn't have to reconfigure anything related to games it just worked but my game is on an internal drive.
embdude Posted July 27, 2020 Author Posted July 27, 2020 Ok thank. It has been a little while since I setup Skyrim but everything looks like it was setup on the external SSD drive (Loot, SKSE, FNIS, MO2) and the game itself. Only the Steam client is on my computer HD. I checked the paths in MO2 and they all point to the external SSD so I should not have to change them... (edit: looks like all but the LOOT executiable are pointing to my SSD as well so I will copy over C;\program files (x86) \LOOT\LOOT.exe as well) A search of the C drive found only 3 folders with skyrim related data: Downloads, My Games, & AppData... Here is the game-plan so far... -Setup win 10 on new computer -Download Steam -Point steam to the external ssd for games library -Move over to the new C drive the above mentioned folders -Run MO2 and try Fnis LOOT to see if all work -Try the game... Might take me a few days to do this so if you see anything that I am missing or obviously wont work let me know, thanks
embdude Posted August 16, 2020 Author Posted August 16, 2020 Ok so hit some trouble... If anyone sees the way forward please offer it. I am stumped... -Setup win 10 on new computer- DONE! Had some trouble turning off security settings... -Download Steam -Point steam to the external ssd for games library -Move over to the new C drive the above mentioned folders- DONE! -Run MO2 and try Fnis LOOT to see if all work DONE! Loot recommended a new SKSE so I downloaded it and added it into the proper folder and into MO2... -Try the game... Crashes... so sad... Right now it will crash on running SKSE through MO2... I get the following Script Extender Log Report: You have one or more script extender plugins which failed to load! If you want this notification to go away, here are some steps you can take: • Look for updates to the mod or the specific plugin included in the mod. • Disable the mod containing the plugin. • Hide or delete the plugin from the mod. To refresh the script extender logs, you will need to run the game and/or editor again! The failed plugins are: • AddItemMenuSE version 17106448 (AddItemMenuSE.dll, AddItemMenu - Ultimate Mod Explorer) loaded correctly (handle 1). • CBPC plugin version 4288 (cbp.dll, CBPC - CBP Physics with Collisions) loaded correctly (handle 2). • ExCharGen plugin version 46 (characterMakingExtender_64_1_5_97.dll, Enhanced Character Edit) loaded correctly (handle 3). • DDiUtil version 1 (DeviousDevices.dll, Devious Devices) loaded correctly (handle 4). • Fuz Ro D'oh version 17253948 (Fuz Ro D'oh.dll, Fuz Ro D-oh - Silent Voice) loaded correctly (handle 5). • JContainers64 version 4 (JContainers64.dll, JContainers SE) loaded correctly (handle 6). • MfgFix version 1 (mfgfix.dll, Mfg Fix) loaded correctly (handle 7). • papyrusutil plugin version 2 (PapyrusUtil.dll, SexLabFrameworkSE_v163_BETA8) loaded correctly (handle 8). • powerofthree's PapyrusExtender for SSE version 1075419546 (po3_papyrusextender64.dll, powerofthree's Papyrus Extender for SSE) loaded correctly (handle 9). • SchlongsOfSkyrim version 300004 (SchlongsOfSkyrim.dll, Schlongs of Skyrim SE) loaded correctly (handle 10). • SexLabUtil version 1 (SexLabUtil.dll, SexLabFrameworkSE_v163_BETA8) loaded correctly (handle 11). • skee version 1 (skee64.dll, RaceMenu) disabled, fatal error occurred while loading plugin (handle 12).

Potato_Skill Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Hmmm. Are you using the right Script Extender? The one for Special Edition, right?
Just Don't Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 I'm not sure why the log includes all those plugins if the only one that isn't loading correctly is skee.dll (Racemenu). Can you try to start the game without Racemenu and see if the warnings disappear? SKSE recently updated from 2.0.17 to 2.0.19. Most mods should work with it, but Racemenu in particular made a new update for that SKSE version. So make sure you're installing the latest Racemenu + the latest SKSE, or stay with SKSE 2.0.17 and Racemenu 0.4.12. I'm doing the later, as there are some people commenting errors in the morphs from Racemenu with the latest versions.

Ok but I am showing Skyrim SE Product Version 1.5.97.0, so will 2.0.17 still work or must I have the 2.0.19?

SKSE 2.0.17, 2.0.18 and 2.0.19 are for Skyrim SE 1.5.97. The thing is matching the mods in question (Racemenu in your case). I already told you, either update SKSE and Racemenu to the latest version or keep SKSE 2.0.17 and Racemenu 0.4.12. And you'll have to see if the other mods included in the report work properly/your game doesn't crash. I don't get why these mods are in there if they're loading correctly.

Thanks I could not tell from silverlock.org if the previous versions would work with 1.5.97.0 as they are just listed as zip files. I will first try 2.0.17 then, since you can confirm the comparability.
embdude Posted August 16, 2020 Author Posted August 16, 2020 SUCCESS! SKSE 2.0.17 and all is well Thank You!
