just wondering if anyone using a good ENB knows whether this image is normal in terms of the distant washed-out, white tone scenery

I think it is either the MIST settings and/or the Fog coloration in ENVIRONMENT settings.

Make sure the binary and ENB you are using are compatible.  If they are, then this shouldn't be happening to this degree (IMO most ENBs fuck this up regardless, but it isn't usually anywhere near that bad.)

thank you for the reply. i'll tinker around with those settings. i just didn't know if this was the way it was supposed to be. ?

Here, but why would you need it anyway? Isn't this file packed with the enb preset?

enbseries.ini 32.35 kB · 0 downloads

yes but i think some of my settings are not configured right. i'm trying to tweak it so that it's not so bright during the day and washed out looking. still haven't figured it out. i'm thinking about trying a new ENB if i can't get Tetra to work for me.

No weather mod? Hmm, maybe it's the exterior fog. Do you mind installing a mod? This mod removes all exterior fog (link is for LE), maybe you should try it and see the result?

do i need the esp or can i just use his settings for the .ini?

yeah, you need the esp (to remove fog). The ini tweaks are there for the enb MIST feature, you can use his settings if you like,

i notice that you will DEF need to increase the UGRIDs otherwise it looks kinda ... bad. messing with the default ugrid of 5 to 7 (like the mod author recommends) is a recipe for trouble eventually no?

Don't worry, ugrids 7 is fine. How's that mod doing for you?

i'm kinda leery about changing the UGRID. it's permanent so i'm hesitant. if you don't mind my asking, what ENB do you use?

Actually, it's not permanent, it's just quite a hassle to lower it after increasing.

Anyway, I'm using Ruvaak Daahman Enb in tantrum with Climates of Tamriel and it looks good (to me at least) as in it makes the game look cold subtly and doesn't have blindingly bright light (*coughs* TAZ visual overhaul *coughs*). Also, it's lightweight so my graphics card won't look at me with eternal hatred while on fire. About Climates of Tamriel, it feels like a hundred steps up from the vanilla weather (in terms of both how it works and how it looks).

I know you can find example pictures at the enb main page (and they look better too), but I still add some of my own here so you can see how it looks with my current set-up.

Spoiler

everywhere i read is that there is no undoing the ugrid changes. what manner of magicka are you privy to?

Conjuration ftw. Also, you can take a look at this thread on the nexus forum to see the tried and tested method. Note that you can skip the first step (i.e running skyrim in windowed mode) if you can already exercise a powerful maneuver, which is "alt-tab" ing out of the game and back without freezing the game. If you deem the nexus forum uncharted territory and you tread there not. Here are the steps:

1. Load the save that you want to revert the ugrids change.

2. Alt-tab out of your game (if you don't have any other apps open to alt-tab to, press control-alt-delete and start task manager which will get you back to windows).
3. Open Skyrim.ini, modify ugridstoload=5, or whatever lower value you want. SAVE the file.
4. Alt-tab back into your game.
5. Open the console (~), type refreshini - this will reload the ini settings into Skyrim, with the lower ugrids value.
6. Close the console, create a new savegame.
7. Restart Skyrim and load your latest save.

The principle is that you want to have the game running and make a save with the newly edited ugridsToLoad value as you know that loading up a save with a lower ugrids value will  straight up CTD.

wow that's good info to know. i'm going to copy that and save it somewhere. so is ugrid 7 the sweet spot?

Yes, allegedly.

Also, you can make changes to the ugridsToLoad value and hop in your game (maybe "coc" to places to take a look) to see the immediate results. As long as you don't make a save, you're absolutely fine to change whatever value you want. That's exactly what I did some times ago, when I was hesitated to decide whether I want to play with ugrids7 or 9. I changed the value, launched the game, then I traveled on foot around Falkreath to see the performance impact (in my game, Falkreath Hold is probably the most "FPS killing" region) and then closed the game, changed back to 5 and decided that I couldn't go with anything higher than 5. After that small test, I just loaded my save normally as if nothing had ever happened.
