Nymra Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I used FNIS for years now with MO2 without File Redirection. I always set up a FNIS install for EVERY ONE of my profiles and it basically worked flawlessly. But now I just decided I finally try File Redirection and everything blows up. Without changing ANYTHING with my profile or with FNIS I get errors. 1. Error ERROR (5) Target Folder is Invalid Solution: I klick Update FNIS again and it works... Files are generated as desired 2. ERROR (57) The process cannot access file FNISListCollet.txt since it is used by another process. This one does not go away. I restart MO2, still there. I ran "FNIS for Modders" before, might that be connected? Just too bad. If this is how it is with Fore in retirement, I might be stuck with individual FNIS installs for all profiles forever. Anybody else? Solution: Disable "File Redirection": FNIS works like a charm o_O
Uncle64 Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 You should consider to have one Fnis output for eatch of your profiles.

I just try to understand the new Routine of generating FNIS with the new File Redirection. If I understood it correctly, I have to redirect the files only once for each profile and after that it seems to work without redirecting (and without errors lol). Just dont know if I do it all entirely correct. The following Routing seems to work for now: 1. Install FNIS 2. Run FNIS for Profile 01 with File Redirection to MO2/overwrite 3. Create Mod "FNIS_Profile01 4. when rerunning FNIS for Profile01 disable File Redirection 5. Switch to Profile02, run FNIS (same install) with with File Redirection to MO2/overwrite 6. 3. Create Mod "FNIS_Profile02 4. when rerunning FNIS for Profile02 disable File Redirection Hmm
Tiress Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 What made you switch to File Redirection in the first place? I never found it particularly useful when I could just set different output folder for the executable for each profile.

I never realised that is possible lol. too lazy and busy with other stuff. But I also to this day do not fully understand the "FNIS hack" and why it messes up profiles. Do I understand correctly that FNIS creates some files in its own meshes folder (inside the FNIS directory) instead of in the overwrite with the rest of the files?

I don't really understand it either, but I couldn't be bothered finding more about it as long as "Create files in mod instead of overwrite" worked. If you use the option I mentioned, you first create an empty folder, set it as an output for FNIS executable and anything it generates ends up in that folder, including logs, temporary files etc. It seems to prefer the original folder you made for it if you have more than one FNIS Output folders active at the same time though.

Uncle64 Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 I dont use it eather. I drag and drop them from overwrite.

Tiress Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 The idea behind it is to have separate output folders for each profile without the need to move anything into them, because the executable generates the files right into them already. It has the benefit of control over generated files and cleaner Overwrite without the need of going into Overwrite and moving the files by yourself.

Maybe I m too stupid too understand or use it wrong. What I now have: 1. Install FNIS 7.6 once (each profile uses the same) 2. Select Profile 01 3. Open File Redirection Option for FNIS and Select 01_FNIS Folder -> if the folder already contains old FNIS animations I get ERROR(53) temporary logs Skeleton not found so this cant work?! What I dont get: - FNIS forgets the selected Folder each time I use it, so I have to select it manually all the time again and again - I have to delete the old files in the output folder first - I cannot permanently link ONE FNIS install to several different profiles So in the end I have even more working steps than before What I now do: I choose one Output Folder (000_FNIS OUTPUT) I then copy the files into a profile specific folder and delete them (CTRL-X + V) So I can reuse the folder every time again. But its also not a one click solution, hehe. So weird. is there a command line prompt to make FNIS use the output folders instead of using the drop down menue?
Tiress Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 This is how I do it: PROFILE 1 I create an empty mod called "FNIS Output 1" and enable it. Then I open Executables menu, select GenerateFNISForUsers, check "Create files in mod instead of overwrite" and select "FNIS Output 1". FNIS will now output all new generated files into FNIS Output 1 instead of overwrite for Profile 1. PROFILE 2 I create an empty mod called "FNIS Output 2", enable it and disable mod "FNIS Output 1". Then I open Executables menu, select GenerateFNISForUsers and select "FNIS Output 2". The option should be already checked this time. FNIS will now output all new generated files into FNIS Output 2 instead of overwrite for Profile 2. File Redirection option in FNIS should be always unchecked. This way I can just switch profile, start FNIS, wait for it to finish and all done. I don't have to move files anywhere, they are already where I want them. It's very important though to have only one FNIS Output mod enabled for each profile or FNIS will simply update the files that are loaded last no matter what output mod you've chosen for the executable.
