Animal Behaviour

Having a problem with animals in the game, with wolves, bears etc being hostile towards each other, like a pack of wolves killing each other. Managed to narrow down the problem to the Sexlab Framework, but don't have a clue how to fix it. If anyone has any ideas how to fix it that would be great.

I have the same issue with wolves and ash hoppers.

How did you narrow it down to be CF?

No, you really didn't.

What you are experiencing has to do with factions, and Sexlab doesn't manipulate those in a way that would cause this.

Look into mods that create or alter animal behaviors, like SkyTest, Wild World, etc.

Pretty much just went through my mod list deactivating mods one by one until the problem was solved, so its defiantly that mod. Only having the problem with wolves, bears and sabre cats as far as I know, might be a problem with some other races.

I found it strange as well but I systematically disabled mods one by one until the problem was fixed, going back into the game each time to check, and when I disabled sexlab framework wolves stopped attacking each other. The first thing I did was deactivate skytest and anything like that but nothing changed.

"I systematically disabled mods one by one until the symptoms of the issue disappeared because I had given my game a temporary lobotomy and then decided its eye twitching now meant it was fixed."

Fixed that for you.  Seriously: it isn't Sexlab.  Might be something dependent on Sexlab, or might be some mod that pings off of Sexlab, but it surely is not Sexlab doing it.  Sexlab doesn't work that way.

Skyrim's factional behaviors only expose their resulting interactions as bools: usually fight/no fight.  Using that to diagnose potentially complex underlying interactions is not as useful as you might think.  At best, you changed some invisible condition that now resolves as "no fight" because something that interacted with it is now gone.

Further, depending on when your testing save was made, the interaction for the factions has already been enacted -- removing mods no longer has an effect.

Whatever is causing it is SkyTest and mods like it.  Not Sexlab.  Sexlab only touches factions through use of aliases that would result in the wolves doing nothing and waiting for incoming animation commands.  It has no other effect that would be seen here.

I think it's only coincidence that you saw a change after disabling SL.  If that were really the cause of the problem, we'd all be seeing that sort of error.

As Seijin8 said, if you saved your game while standing near a pack of wolves, then the game engine has probably already made the decision that those wolves will attack each other, even if you leave the game, disable mods, and then go back in game.

You'd probably have to go to the test cell (coc qasmoke ????), save and exit, disable a mod, go back in game to the test cell, and spawn in some wolves/sabre cats or whatever to know for sure.

Yup that's what I did, spawning in wolves using console command. Noticed that if I started a new game they behaved fine but in the game I was currently running the issue was still there, and was like that from the beginning of the play through.

I wasn't far in the play through only about level 6 so it isn't a big deal to start over, but still strange, could be the result of modding mid-game. Thanks for the advice though!

If you suffer the same thing as me I'm afraid starting a new game won't help.

It would be interesting to see your mod list and compare it ho mine.

In addition to wolves attacking each other I also have bristlebacks missing their attack animation. They just stand there grunting. I'm fearing it's a fame engine overload ?
