ZinZan123 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I've heard that there are some games of the same producer that provide a bit of everything from romance to violence. But, instead of installing multiple games like Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls etc, i would like to know more about one such game that provides everything listed above. I also like modding so i would appreciate further recommendations. Thanks!
EgoBallistic Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 You can get married in Skyrim, with a real wedding and everything. Your spouse can then live with you, or you can live in their home, and they can have a job. And if you have the Hearthfires DLC you can adopt kids and have them come live with you. None of the other Bethesda games have anything that elaborate. The only other one that does anything at all with romance is Fallout 4. It has a really basic romance system where if you max out a companion's affinity and pass a speech check, they'll agree to be in a romance with you. After that they'll tell you how happy they are to be with you when you talk to them, and you'll get a "lover's comfort" bonus for sleeping when they are nearby. No weddings, no kids, none of that stuff.
Shiori栞 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Both Bethesda games are pretty shallow in terms of romance. Fallout 4 especially when you consider what happens at the very beginning of the game. Kind of rude to go out and hook up so soon right after what happens, and honestly you should be concentrating on finding your... well, let's just say it's very hard to answer this question without spoilers. You get a few romance options and that's about it. Very limited. From what I can tell, it's 3 options from each gender. Skyrim, you have like half of the world to choose from, especially with mods. Once married, you have an orphanage to adopt a child or 2 from, you have a master bedroom and can build a child's bedroom, you can marry your Housecarl (in-home bodyguard assigned to a Thane of a city), they always seem very concerned for your safety, and they cook for you (literally give you food if you ask), clean around the house, they open a store you can buy stuff from and they give you half the profits they make from store sales. In terms of actual backstory, Fallout 4 has the upper hand. You learn a lot about people you can date, but it's not related to romance. You learn about all your companions if you just raise their affinity enough then talk to them. You can't marry anyone though. In terms of family and an actual household, Skyrim for sure. Your spouse lives with you, and so do your children, obviously. It is preferable to marry someone who has multiple quests so you can get to know them, which is where mods shine. For example, marrying Serana can be extremely fulfilling, but requires a mod (Bethesda missed the mark there... she should be marriable by default). However you look at it, I'd choose a spouse over a fling, and in Skyrim you literally have a wedding ceremony in a church, with your friends attending, and then you live together, which makes going home feel more welcome and comforting.
ZinZan123 Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 I think Skyrim has gotten more attention as compared to other games of the same Company. Regarding Fallout though, it has been said that New Vegas has better story based gameplay than Fallout 4 and is more focused on choices as the Courier ( Main Character ) wakes up in an unknown place (Good springs) and goes out to find what he was meant to do that got him almost killed, who he really is, and can choose to be either a good or bad guy. Fallout 4 however, starts with a fixed backstory of the Main Character so it could be considered limited and not as broad in story development as New Vegas. Sadly, New Vegas does not offers anything close to romance or marriage ( i wanted to settle down with Trudy as a partner and protect good springs.... ). Fallout 4 atleast has initial elements of Romance. I think in almost many cases, there must be a clear instance of something already included in vanilla game that would promote modders to enhance it further. That's probably why there are so detailed marriage mods for Skyrim because even without any mods, there is an actual procedure of getting married etc. in the game originally. In Fallout 4, i hope there is everything that New Vegas lacked. As for limited story though, i think alternate start mod (or something similar) could fix that, as such mods offer variety of random beginnings and choices that expand story development much more than initially expected. Also, there should be some romance/marriage centered mods for it too.
