kurisu7885 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 So, I've been running Skyrim fine for a while now, in fact my current mod set has been in almost since I started playing again, after Dawnguard and Harthfire have been released. However, rather recently, after I deleted my saves to star fresh, well, I'm having a hard time staying sane now. In fact now I'm more or less trapped. I've been gathering the words of power, and made it to the first one where you awaken a dragon priest, and now I'm compltely trapped. I get the word, battle the priest, Volrus or something like that ,then it crashes to the desktop with the old "Skyrim has stopped respondiong" message. I thought it was a mod I more recently tried, animated larvae, but these crashes persist even after I uninstalled said mod, and of course I can't get off the summit because the Dragon Priest wakes up as soon as I get what I came for. I'll be blunt, I am really, REALLY fucking sick of Bethesda games becoming unplayable like this. I can play literally any other game on my hard drive for hours on end without any kind of issue, but Skyrim keeps crashing randomly, nhow after just five minutes it seems, if that. ANd no my PC isn't even close to overheating during play. Anyway, system specs. OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit CPU: AMD Athlon II Dual core 2.70 GHz RAM: 4 GB Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GT 630(yes, my drivers are up to date, I checked) Thanks in advance as this is PISSING ME OFF!!!
Ravana Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I hope you get some help, truly. In 400+ Hours of logged time, Skyrim has only crashed once in a blue moon for me, as well as others. I admit, when I saw your post title, I thought this would be a New Vegas thread, since THAT was really the buggiest Bethesda game of all time. Are you able to provide any more information about the crash? Does it give you any logs? Nothing in the specs given here would amount to any sort of incompatibility, far as I can tell.
kurisu7885 Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Well, I ran the game thrugh Steam and except for it constantly telling me that Skyrim Script Extender wasn't working it ran fine. Was SKSE updated recently? Because I would hate to think Bethesda is trying to cripple it. I wish I could, literally all it does it boot me to desktop with that "Stopped responding" crap.
kurisu7885 Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Well, I just did an update of SKSE to try and remove3 any errors, however this time I was kicked to the desktop without so much as an error message.
kurisu7885 Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 I guess there may be no answers until SKSE is updated for Dragonborn or something.
Kargrin Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Im sorry, but from my experience, it must be the hardware. I used to play bethesda games like Oblivion to FalloutNV in my old pc, and crashes were frequent.. painfully frequent. Then, after i bought new hardware ( AMD 965 3.4ghz, ati 6870 etc..) the crashes were gone like "magic". Makes me think how they set up the minimal system requirements for their games.
kurisu7885 Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Thing si, I never had problems playing before, and aside from this the game runs really well.
Kargrin Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Oh, have you tried doing a clean reinstall then? Im also using SKSE for 1.8, are you using FNIS for any animation mod?
cornbreadtm Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 What programs are you using with modding? Wrye Bash, Tesedit, boss, optimized textures? Do you use the PCB command? In my personal experience while running well over 200 mods If i use optimized textures and clean my mods with tesedit. Then I use a merged patch from tesedit in conjunction to a bashed patch my game I significantly more stable. Its not that I don't crash its just that it usually happens after 3~5 hours of constant game play. In my worst saves (constantly removing mods and not preforming clean saves do to laziness) I can play about 30 minutes before a crash if I set things up right. If you go into an interior area like breeze home and use PCB then wait for X amount of days (depends on your respawn settings default is 3~30 days i believe) then use PCB again you should be able to remove a lot of the left over dirty areas like contaminated loot lists and npc scripting. Which should restore some usability. You can use tesedit to check and see If there are left over conflicts with your dragon priest as well might be an obvious conflict from another mod. Its usually better to just start a new game but you can salvage some of your saves if you don't mind reduced stability. Hope this helps.

Well, much as I don't want to I'm doing a completely clean install, IE deleting the game folder within steam. As for programs ,well, I use Nexus mod manager.
kurisu7885 Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 And I just read that AP has been known to cuase a lot of problems, maybe that mod is the culprit....
cornbreadtm Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 You should use BOSS and wrye bash along with NMM to mod your game. A proper BOSS load order and a bash patch is what you want. If your not using these your mods will mess up your saves just from conflicts alone. There are a bunch of good tutorials on youtube by Sharlikran if you need them. You should never delete you game folder within steam, it causes all kinds of problems down the road if your not lucky. At most delete you data folder in your skyrim directory. AP is notorious for causing problems. Nothing against the creator or the mod but you should just avoid it.

I'll be sure t oaxe AP off my mod manager once it's in, after I got SexiS I stopped using AP anyway. Um, where could I possibly get the other two managers you spoke of?
kurisu7885 Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Well, did a clean install and after al lthat work the same problem is popping up and now SexiS no longer works >.<
Kargrin Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Did you: 1-Uninstall (not just deleted the folders) maybe even using programs like ccleaner 2-Install base Skyrim 3-Patch up to 1.8 4-Install the expansions 5-Install Wyre Bash 6-Then set up any mod? If yes, and nothing changed, crashes are still happening, then most likely something is going on with you hardware. Or even Windows maybe?
cornbreadtm Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 You can't take shortcut or your just going to have the same problems. I'll give you the info you need to fix them though. Along with explaining the software. If you need more help just ask. First remove your mods safely with NMM and make a back up of your Skyrim folder. You can package it with Winrar if you want to keep it from getting confused with your main folder. BOSS - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6 You use this to properly organize your mods. Video tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5cPITY-qJE Wyre Bash - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1840 You need to learn how to create a "bashed patch" with this. Here is a video tutorial, watch it front to back to avoid problems. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzWuZjhNshs TES5Edit - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/25859 You uses this to clean your mods and make a merged patch. Video tutorial for cleaning your mods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt4W1dZF9IE Video tutorial for creating a merged patch. This video also reviews how to use all 3 programs in conjunction this is the most important video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pi5u2qwdxg This stuff can be trick to learn at first. I had to do it without the video guides but once you do you won't be having trouble with your mods and can help others.
kurisu7885 Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Well, I did a fully clean install and now seem to have no problems. I'll keep all this in mind if they begin to pop up again though.
kurisu7885 Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Well, upon further reflection, I think I'll do this after all, because now the after the first dragon encounter the bloody beast won't dissolve.
kurisu7885 Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Well, much as I hate to say it, looks like it was a good run with Skyrim, but this is all completely fucking over my head. Looks like I'm out.
cornbreadtm Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 DSAMG - "Dragon soul absorption made glorious" and any other mod that alters the dragon soul absorb animation will stop dragon soul absorptions from activating with the Dragonborn DLC installed.

To my knowledge I have no such mods, I loved the effect as is and saw no reason to mess with it. Unless Leveler's Tower or Call of Madnes was doing it, however, I wasn't having any problems up until recently. And ot my knowledge there's no way to progress until you aborb the first dragon soul. And I apologize if I come off as lazy, just all this tehcnical stuff flys over my head instead of being helpful.
cornbreadtm Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 There's a "war" going on out there to find out which mod causes this. Not even I know but I'm pretty positive that its the Unofficial Skyrim patch. I'm not removing it to find out since doing that is the best say to destroy your save, so it's the waiting game till they fix it. A lot of people don't know this "technical stuff" but the problem is they're the ones blowing up the comments pages on the mods in question with false information. So the pages get locked and nobody gets any info. Asking for help like you are is the right way to go. I'm just keeping my ear to the floor till someone updates their mod with a fix. I'll tell you then you can continue playing. You can still go to solsthiem without finishing Dragon Rising just go to windhelm and pay 250 gold for the boat right. The main quest and dragonborn are the only quests you need to absorb souls for.

cornbreadtm Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 It's been confirmed to be the unofficial Skyrim patch like I thought. At least it should be fixed in a day or two (beta testing the new patch takes a few days) http://www.iguanadons.net/Unofficial%20Dragonborn%20Patch%20Version%20History.html
