Dude500X Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Just hit 1Am here so I'm heading off to bed. But if anyone plays and wants a game just PM me here and i'll share my steam acct name, im still new to the game as well. I play the GOTY edition with gods and kings. Just had a huge bout of one more turn syndrome Lol.
Queen Bee Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I know the feeling. It gets so hard to stop when I'm on a roll. I've beaten the game a thousand different ways, and even once reduced the entire planet to a nuclear wasteland because I could. The only victory I can't seem to make happen is one where I never have to fight. I wonder if it's possible.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I have a copy, just never installed it. Mainly because I'm scared I'll black out and wake up about a month later with ground up bits of a disc stuck in my veins, like with Civ 3.
Dude500X Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 well I just woke up, about 2 hours before I normally wake up.. just so I can get onto civ asap Lol.
Strelky Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Arrrrrgh you're gonna make go and finally buy it!
Dude500X Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 well, im winning, sort of, plenty of horses, oil and iron so I have a decent army but because of my, er, accidental acquisitions of afew city states by accidental invasion the brits, inca and celts want me dead lol
DasVonAlbatross Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Eh, all the civs'll want you dead as soon as you get rich.
Queen Bee Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It doesn't take much for them to want you dead. If you don't have an army, you're weak and they bully you. If you have an army that's worth a damn, you're a threat and they attack via pre-emptive strike.
Guest Plastrader Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Yeah, and if you allure city states they think they're friends with, they get angy. They also think you're a warmonger even tho' you never declared war on anyone, just defending and taking a city to force the attacking civ to surrender. The humerous thing is that whilst complaining over you being such a bad person they wipe out civs one after one... :/
Queen Bee Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I do denounce militant civs, though it doesn't seem to do anything except help my standing with their enemies. "Oh, you don't like them either? Great! Let's trade!"
ChancellorKremlin Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Are you guys taking about AI here or other players?
ChancellorKremlin Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I thought so. I've never played any of the CIV games, I was asking because that sounds murderously like that AI of Rome Total War, which was really inept and quite useless. Seems like not a lot has changed in that department over the years, sadly.
Guest Plastrader Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 In general strategy game AI does tend to be a bit useless. And I can see how its very hard to code a decent diplomacy AI. However the main issue with the AI in Civ 5 isn't really the diplomacy, its the grand strategies. All these things can be modded. But... You can't play mods in mp... :'(
leddis3 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Personally I've grown sick of these games because the AI always cheats, even when they're robust enough to not need to cheat. I mean here I am at the start of the game half way to my first settler and all my neighbours have built 3 cities and enough military units to conquer the world 3 times over.
Dude500X Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Well after yesterdays gaming session I am going to compare the Persians to fleas.. no matter how many I kill they keep coming! Persia is a damn scary civ to have as a neighbour.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I gave Civ 5 a two hour long shot... and I'm not sure what exactly they did to the game, but I find it to be painfully boring. I hold no fear of being addicted to this game like I was with Civ 3, or to a lesser extent, with Civ 4.
Dude500X Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 If you play civ 5 on its own then I agree but get it with Gods and Kings.. whole new experience
Guest Plastrader Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 About the AI and their brilliant trade offers. Especially their "demands" which in reverse pisses them off immensly... Maybe not Harun! Why would I give you 2/3:rds of my total gold?! What difficulty do you guys play?
Dude500X Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Im on a Prince game at mo as Egypt, standard map, small continents. Just took out China after they backstabbed me.. hard waging war now though and im really still in the renisance but because of the way everyone is setup.. if I declare then I have to fight everyone due to how everyone is setup with declarations of friendships etc.
Guest Plastrader Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Im on a Prince game at mo as Egypt, standard map, small continents. Just took out China after they backstabbed me.. Oh. I gave up on playing prince since the "Fall patch" which eventually led me to put CIV5 on the shelf.

Dude500X Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 almost got culture victory as ethiopia but bloody mayans got a tech victory, I had no oil or uranium access... and I kind of bought uranium off the Mayans and then nuked them... in sort of a final defiance kind of way.
LordJerle Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I always go for conquest victory No culture or tech. Total domination or nothin!
Dude500X Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 yup, I'm learning to play the Russians now, not just cos of Catherines bust though. (lol, I am SURE her image is not historicially accurate)
