As some of you may know there's been a lot of hype for the VR head-mounted display Oculus Rift. Mostly because its feature of displaying a field of view as large as our natural eyesight(meaning all you see is the game).

Back story aside; a new company called Sinful Robot are aiming to be the first to deliver a truly immersive sexual VR experience.

Though despite the social ethics sex games are very popular in Japan, who hold companies with decades of experience in the produce of these games. One company; Illusion, have also had an attempt at simulating the sexual experience from a girlfriend through their title

. This was one of the very few erotic games which try to obtain a sense of realism through the use of first-person pov, along with other gimmicky devices to create a higher sense of immersion.

I'm sure you can guess how that ended up... Didn't stop them though.

Along with the

what are your thoughts on how this will change state of sex games? I for one am very excited about this.

Star Citizen is the only game I care to use it with. Since you're just in a cockpit of a fighter ship. Might be more "natural" feeling there.

Sex games? Eeeeeh.... there's barely any good sex games that DON'T require a $500 headset.

Looking forward to seeing what people can do with it.

Combining the Rift with alternate control systems via Kinect(s), Leap or Razor Hydra would go a long way to improving immersion. In relation to the the erotic, teledildonics have come along way with devices like the Real Touch.

Devices like this are making virtual sex a less 'virtual' and more 'reality'.

Is sex with a virtual AI driven girl cheating?

Does it depend on the AI?

Interesting times ahead.

I still remember when VR was THE FUTURE and soon everything would be in it.

We see how well that turned out.

The Internet? Everybody's on it?

Anyway, we don't have the technology for real VR yet. It's still in development, but I hope I'm alive when it happens.

Why did everyone vote yes the question is "Do you think VR will allow for better quality and demand for erotic games?" truth is it wont because no company has the balls to invest in something like erotica or porn games whether your tv screen is a helmet or not .

Sinful Robot may be riding the Rift hype, but I'm once it is out and integrated in several regular games and other programs, I'm betting more then one adult entertainment company will look into it. Probably be a Japanese eroge game first mind you.

i think everyone is looking to get their name mentioned along with the oculus rift, cause it was what John Carmack was showing at e3.

and since the man of 3d games said it himself it must be good right?

alot of small companies are going to take a chance on the newest thing cause it might make them big in the end.

i myself have doubts about VR, though maybe not as much as i had about the kinect. (its still just a glorified I-toy to me)

the games will not change that much. when it comes to adult games i think things will change even less

I find it troubling that people are calling TV eyeglasses virtual reality.

^ I'm damn excited for virtual reality. Don't get me wrong, I see how this is interesting, and a change in potential immersiveness. But it's not virtual reality. But then again, they've been calling things virtual reality that aren't for a long time now. Virtual boy anyone?

Oh yeah, and with real virtual reality, it won't fucking matter what people will make, because you'll be able to do whatever you want! :D In theory anyways.

I think the Rift will take off with erotica at the hands of the Japanese. Mainly, as I have said before, due to their experience with building such games.

Though, I do expect to see a change of quality from games as we know it. Games will be separated by two main features: Experience through innovation, and experience through story-telling.

So in terms of gameplay styles; some games will be horribly gimmicky like the early Wii games, taking advantage of the new hardware, i.e. Wii Sports/Fit/Play/Music. Whilst the others will be focused on the overall experience of feeling like your in the game, not through simple graphics but through indepth-story telling with believable characters, i.e. RPGs - Legend of Zelda, Xenoblade, Monster Hunter. This also means genres like Visual Novels will gain in popularity(Zeros Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is an already a popular handheld VN which was nominated for the game of the year award).

This prediction is also backed up by the demand the Oculus will have on graphics, to keep things smooth and coherent. As stereoscopic rendering will shave of around 25%-50% of fps top-of-the-line realistic graphics will have to wait(course there will be a few, but keep in mind high-end/=average gamer). But following the gameplay styles this will set the standard for games, so rather than focusing on best-of-the-best graphics like this console's generation has seen games will be focused on story and new experiences like I mentioned earlier.

So to put things short: If you own a Nintendo then you'll know how the Oculus might reshape the way games are made with the limited graphics power that the average gamer will have.

With the $300 dev units shipping out in a months(March) whether the Rift will take off or not is simply a matter of time.

As for the Leap, I have no doubts this will be a success, with a pricetag of $60 and a a BestBuy partnership not only will average people will be able to buy this motion controller, but also try demoing the experience in a local store. It truly is just a matter of time before we are all interacting in a virtual reality with natural gestures. I for one cannot wait!

This appears to be a dome one developer has made...

I can't wait.

Somehow, that's the most enticing, convincing preview for erotic content with the Oculus Rift I've seen yet... And I'm not knocking it. That actually is making me think "huh... this may actually be kinda neat... or more."

I feel augmented reality is the most promising path right now, gradually changing our perception of the physical world. It's difficult for people to make a jump from a physical world to a completely perceived environment. Doing it a little at a time will probably have more success.

We've been augmenting our senses for centuries with reading glasses, hearing aids, and so on. The big thing right now is overlaying images on our view of the physical world. Until now this has been the domain of military tech like heads-up displays on fighter pilot helmets. Google is starting to expand this to the civilian market, I'm watching the progress of their Glass project closely. The real test will be if heads-up systems can gain acceptance among the general public like smartphones. It looks promising.

As environments involving the internet or augmented reality become increasingly mainstream, we're going to have to redefine reality. The danger of calling forums, multiplayer games, and so on "virtual worlds" is there's real people with real emotions involved. I feel treating the online world as fake or less-important causes us to treat others with less respect and cause emotional harm. I like the terms "online" and "physical" better than virtual and real.

Things would really take off if people figured out a way to do practical haptics, using senses other than vision/sound for input. It's a lot more complicated than visuals, which is ironic, as our skin is vastly simpler than our eyes. The capability to actually feel online environments would really lead to an explosion (*giggle*) of sex games.

The simple truth is life has one driving force - to live! Sex continues life to future generations, so it's inevitable everything we do will have a sexual niche.

The Adult Entertainment Industry had been huge investors in earlier technologies for home use (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray), I suspect once the approvals for manufacturing and public sale go through, the AEI will be right there again. The real hang-up will be the same problems some of the gaming industry already face (especially here in the US) with political and religious muttonheads screwing everything up.

I, for one, hope things go forward - I'd love to see VR sex adventures out on the market!

edit: I wrote the above prior to checking the links, looks like things are on the way :D

Eh. I think I'll wait for the day Realdolls are affordable and come with interactive programs. Like fully voiced conversations and personality options.

When that rubber bitch can get up and walk nekkid to the fridge for my beer, I'll buy one.

Until then I'd like my sex partner to be living and breathing.

(Those realdoll things just scare the bejeezus outta me!)
