<Bug> Body skins get unequiped during AAF animations

Helllo, Mr./ Ms. @dagobaking and fellow users,

I found this bug where AAF unequips the character's skin overlays when playing animations then equips it back after the animations end.

Capture.PNG.cf52547ae915dd9805b66f57686635be.PNG

Basically, any cosmetics under LooksMenu's "skin" section gets cleared out when the animations are playing but do come back after the animations are done and characters reequip their apparels.

In my case, I use the Tattoos for captives mod to apply some body dirt and scars on some of my characters. Those go away when AAF unequips my character to play animations then come back when said animation are done. I don't want that because they are what I consider part the characters' natural nude body~~definitely not some equipments that AAF thinks they are. Is there anything I can do (like change a setting in some file) on my end to eliminate this behavior?

Thanks in advance

I think that's because AAF duplicates the player character when starting a scene, but it wont duplicate the skin overrides. Don't think you can do anything about it. It's happening in my own game too.

Glad to meet someone on the same boat.

What you say is possible. I do know the character duplication mechanics of AAF.

But if you look at the screenshots at the page of the mod you see that those skin overrides (dirt, bites, lashes and hot iron marks~) are still on as the animations play.

That's what led me to think this is an "unequip" kind of issue.

I've found this section in the AAF_equipmentSetData.xml. If this is really the cause~~just need to know which line to edit.

AAF copies Overlays. But, Skin Overrides are different than Overlays.

I would add a feature to copy the Skin Overrides over during animations. But, it doesn't appear that a function to get the Skin Override being used on actor was made in F4SE.

So, you would have to convince Expired to add it (or let me know of an alternative to get this string id) for it to be possible.

Of about 50 AAF animations I played this week, in at least 45 I had no problems with the overrides.

But there are times, yes, it seems that the override is not copied during the animation. I have not yet begun to replicate it, but it seems to me that it happened in two occasions: the first, when loading a game the first animation did not always copy the override.

On another occasion it happened when wearing a specific clothing during the animation. I don't remember if they were socks or shoes that, via "No Strip Items Manager", I adjusted so that they stayed during the animations. It is the same sock that, in some old version of AAF, reset its properties (color, texture) during animations. (But it works well since the latest versions)

But, in most of my experience, overrides are copied during the scenes.

I have not yet put the skin on my NPC or my companions, only my character.

Another problem I had with the override, but NOT during animations. If I put on certain clothes, the skin under my clothes was the standard. I had to fix it in bodyslide: delete the reference body, reinsert it, conform it and save it.

Again, not related to AAF, but maybe it could point in the right direction of the cause of your problem.

Interesting. AAF does nothing to specifically copy Skin Overrides. So, if they copy sometimes, it must be because they become part of the Player Template that AAF uses in some cases.

This makes some sense because that is how the clone used in animations for the PC has the correct face customizations, etc.

If it would shed some light on things, Skin Overrides are now copied over in my game when I type "slm 14" in console once before starting any AAF animation. I don't even have to change anything in the LooksMenu. Just calling it using the slm function will do. Of course, this will have to be done every time I load a save. But as a band-aid solution, it works.

Pretty weird, right?
