Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Hello I was just wondering how you folk organize your mods in your sims 4 mods folder since mine is getting to be ridiculous in size and I am going to commit an afternoon to cleaning it up. Also what is the rule on sims 4 mods sub folders? I know you can have scripts more than one folder deep but could I have cosmetic mods like clothes or furnature be two to three layers deep? P.S I am not asking for your mods list as I know that is very personal just maybe some tips to keep my mods folder organized
HentaiGnome Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Just posted a screenshot of what I currently have. I'm sure I can organize this even more, but so far it's worked for me just fine. My personal rule of thumb is to have all scripting mods in the main Mods folder, and all objects/assets (clothes, animations, overrides, etc.) in their respective subfolders. But each of these subfolders is only one level deep. I've found that doing it this way alleviates most if not all problems for me personally ?
Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 That make sense but man I have a lot of work to do (☉__☉”) (8.8 gigs of work to be exact) thanks for the input @HentaiGnome

But it's worth it in the end especially when you want to add more CC (custom content) on top of your already large pile of CCs lol. Though, 8.8 gigs is a lot dude, lol ? I think I only have less than half that amount, but that's also because I ended up deleting stuff that I didn't really need or were too redundant. Besides, the less CCs you have, the less likely you'll run into issues, plus your game loads up even faster. As for organizing, you could always use the search function within directories and look for basic keywords like "eye" or "necklace" or something like that since most mod creators tend to use those words in naming their stuff. So whatever search results pop up, just highlight them all and drag them into an appropriately named folder and BAM! most of your work is done right there.

Make sense yeah but luckily I was smart enough to organize my hairs though and I just checked and it is 5.5 gigs so there is hope!
R(+)cKeT Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Me i place my files ( package ) in a folder each name of the creator , Turbodrive all creator you got your folder in my pc ??
ltx260 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I do mine pretty much the same as the HentaiGnome but a little less specific (I group shoes in with clothes for example) I would suggest grabbing the Sims 4 studio to check what a weirdly named CC is and to fix tags as needed . Sims 4 Tray importer helps to find duplicates and broken CC. Also.... Spoiler Mine Loads hella zippy but I only have SSDs so my load times are not ever really bad with anything.

SSD about 500 mbytes second is fast ..compare too hard drive whit just about 100 mbs SSD is the future, faster better , i see SSD 1000 mbs fast as lightning strike ..

Gotcha I look into the sims 4 studios I might also name them by creator @R(+)cKeT Thank you both for the information I appreciate it a lot!
Mariana Soprano Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I merge the files by creator name/s and "CAS" or "BB" (buildandbuy) subtitles using S4Studio. New CC join in at my "CC Check" folder. Adult bodyparts stay always unmerged.

Mariana Soprano Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Reason to merge is - my laptop is a kind of hair dryer ? and I like to have many CC to puzzle this
Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 Whoa that is neat! @Mariana Soprano Love the dining room you have there! I will definitely have to do that then since I am only playing on the base game and was thinking about buying some expansion packs to my range of potential cc is going to go through the roof
Mariana Soprano Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 The "dining room" was just a WIP for a restaurant and a wedding scenario
Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 8, 2019 Author Posted September 8, 2019 Wow that's amazing! @Mariana Soprano I hope I can learn to make rooms look that good one day!

Bhob Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I break them up like many people do up above. I found it a lot better when I wanted to purge/clean up. I've got 16.7GB of mods (6530 files in 74 folders). When first did it, I stuck everything* that wasn't already sorted in one directory, created a bunch of empty category directories, and then started using windows search to l;ook for common words. For example, ":shirt vest blouse coat crop sweater tee top" went into my "clothing tops" directory. I did this for each directory and then would skim through it manually. Often I'd find new keywords for what should go where. Once that was done, I only had a little left to organize. For ongoing, I put everything in an Evaluate directory (well, I also have one specifically for EVE body because that's more special use, and I have an overflow I made once). I run ModConflictDetector to check to see if I'm adding anything I already have and remove it, and then I run Sims 4 Studio (S4S) to see if I like it. Surprising number of things look good in photos but don't work the best with what I have, or require a mesh from an expansion I haven't purchased yet. From there it's just a few each time that I can easily toss is the right directories. Below is my general list, but I do have some specific creators, especially those who update their stuff like @wild_guy or @erplederp (thanks!) in their own directories so I can easily update their stuff.
Ascend the Apprenticeship Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 @Bhob That should be a lot better than what I was trying to do atm thanks for the tip!

jurneends Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I want to say I have maybe 20 gb of cc and mods although I’ve been sloshing along deleting some so hopefully a little less. I’m a bit ocd so I tend to categorize mines until I can’t categorize them any further ?. Like my folder for hairstyle would read hairstyle.long.ponytail or something or the other. It really helps me to be really specific because as I figure out what items may have a really similar look or is not the best quality.
