Kuroyami Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 In quite a few locations, CTDs are somewhat constant. On a few, where I've mostly stuck to areas where I haven't experienced crashes, they have either barely happened(likely proven as random after restarting the game and the same thing doesn't happen) or have been caused by attempting to enter areas likely to cause issues. Though most of these have been places like around Boston Common, the South Boston area, etc. along with a few other random places.  As an example, a fresh start for a character, just out of Vault 111, and going towards the nearby Ranger cabin eventually causes a CTD, even without the cabin itself in sight(just the undiscovered marker for it on the compass). I can go past the van and car without issue(as one of the weapon mods listed places a footlocker between them), its only going much further when it happens. RitualClarity Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Sometimes when you overload your game with mods and resources (textures, meshes, etc etc) you can cause crashes.. This was more common in the older 32 bit games, never heard about it being an issue with the current games being more tolerant of mods and number of assets and scripts running. Never had a problem myself so long as I didn't go over the plug in limit. I mention this as you have a lot of mods on the list.( I don't know what many of them even do so cant make a proper judgement on them)  I'd double check by lightening up a good amount of the mods you have installed. Resource intensive mods first then see if that helps the frequency of crashes. Verify the cache of the game to be sure you have a good install, and, hopefully a clean folder (game folder) if you were using MO2... Old scripts and junk left in the game folder can possibly cause conflicts that you might not be aware of.  another (long shot) is run the Fo4edit and see if it comes up with any issues as you install. Doubt that will occur but could be useful to see individual records. If you are good or willing to learn. you can open the CK and check for conflicts. Another possibility is to try to make a game "merged patch" where conflicts are ironed out for your current individual play and setup. You'd have to redo it every time you do a change.  The problem with random issues is .. random. nothing points to a problem and difficult to resolve. Compound that with it happening in many different locations. Best possible result is to se if there is something universal to those areas.  Oh, also check the mods you are using to see if someone is reporting any issues. Could be a bad scrip running on one of the mods you are using.  So many possibilities... a metric shit ton of work to figure out.

Old scripts and junk left in the game folder can possibly cause conflicts that you might not be aware of. I have verified the cache in Steam a few times, and it hasn't had to redownload any files. Otherwise, the folder looks like it only has the installed files(dated when I installed the game), along with two bat files(I haven't had any crashes while running either). 36 minutes ago, RitualClarity said: another (long shot) is run the Fo4edit and see if it comes up with any issues as you install. I have checked a few things in FO4Edit, especially the mentioned Ranger Cabin area - no conflicts there, other than the UP's changes for one of them. 36 minutes ago, RitualClarity said: The problem with random issues is .. random. nothing points to a problem and difficult to resolve. Most of them haven't been random, as I usually could reload the game, and be almost assured that it will happen every time, at least in certain areas.  Though one of my possible thoughts would be that it is a UI issue, and not having DEF_UI and HUDFramework working together, even if I have patched(HUDFramework's autopatcher) them so they do, supposedly. The only thing I have changing things beyond those two, would be DEF_UI Iconlibs Rescaled and Fixed. I'm not using a sorting mod, but do have DEF_UI's plugin active so I get an item's breakdown materials displayed on the HUD.Â
RitualClarity Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 1 hour ago, Kuroyami said: Not all of the mods in the list are active, any with the -, are not active. Likely obvious, but... I am aware. Different computers can handle different amounts of data and I am not aware of the specs you had. It was just a global comment that could be useful for you or anyone else having such a problem. I have verified the cache in Steam a few times, and it hasn't had to redownload any files. Otherwise, the folder looks like it only has the installed files(dated when I installed the game), along with two bat files(I haven't had any crashes while running either). That sounds good. I thought you would already done that but had to be sure. I have checked a few things in FO4Edit, especially the mentioned Ranger Cabin area - no conflicts there, other than the UP's changes for one of them. UP? Not sure what you are mentioning there. Have you tried to disable that mod just in case? That somewhat is the issue. Most of them haven't been random, as I usually could reload the game, and be almost assured that it will happen every time, at least in certain areas. Let me clarify "random" as I intended it. Sorry for any confusion. "Random" in this sense is something that isn't easily understood as what is happening. Not repeatable. Also you stated it happens in various different locations. There is no "Trigger" exactly.. in that you can say.. I do x and get y.. like a crash when undressing a NPC of x armor. I'm not using a sorting mod, but do have DEF_UI's plugin active so I get an item's breakdown materials displayed on the HUD. Possibly something to follow up on. comments above in green. The ideas given previously was more or less "global" ideas to follow up on. I posted as nobody else did and just to get a basics out of the way.  It sounds as if you have a mod (from the conflict) and some other aspects (UI conflict) that might be possible. I'd try with those removed and your save cleaned etc. to be sure. On that note.. your save might be bad. Forgot that last time. have you checked really early saves, new game, cleaned a save?  The above might not be helpful but in such a situation it is difficult to point out the problem unless someone has a similar load order and can see and experienced some conflicts that they can definitively state was the issue and /or a fix for them. Barring that, (above) then it is time to try removing one (or group of similar mods) out at a time. you don't have a lot installed so that shouldn't be a problem.  Also you didn't follow up (that I saw that is.. sorry if I missed it, it is late and I am tired) about making sure your game folder is clean from any previous crap or such (depending on the manager you are using/have used in the past. )

RitualClarity Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Quote That's referring to the Unofficial Fallout 4 patch, which is one of the first mods I installed. Ah, That shouldn't be causing a problem. however, If a mod author made some strange changes in his or her mod, it is possible. However, I haven't really heard of really bad issues occuring from any such patch from Fallout 3 through to Fallout 4 (including Skyrim) Quote With the plugin list I posted, it is a completely new save, just having come out of the vault. So you started with these mods and no changes. (or used a clean un-modded save then started when leaving the vault) Well that is another issue that has been removed. Quote I've only used MO2 for FO4, and while I did play a bit of the game before using it, that was without using any mods. Well you could use the tool to make sure MO didn't drop something into the folder (doubt it but we want to be 100%) You can find it at #tools on AAF discord. In any case this is to be 100% covered. While at it you can also run the tool to verify things are installed and properly configured also found on that same channel. I am bring this up for the next step...  You have done pretty much everything. Short of removing mods and checking the long hard way individual / group mods to see if they are an issue. So, after cleaning up the folder, and capturing the results of the configuration tool (forget the name) both found on #tools channel on AAF discord. I'd go and discuss the issue with their support. Nobody else has come here to chime in. Perhaps there might be better results there. Someone might be able to give some ideas of possible conflicts that are being missed, problem mods or other suggested solutions. I can't think of anything other than alternating mods until you find the mod that is causing the issue. That or NUKE and rebuild making sure testing between some of the mod to see if it happens again.  Best of luck! Sorry I can't do more. It is a strange bug that I never experienced and for the most part all the basics have been covered for diag.
Kuroyami Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Grabbed a savegame from the Nexus(just to get around the intro quicker), and used that to do some testing.  Reached it with no issues, not even any problems with a nearby random event(happening under the nearby power pylon). Also used only this list of mods... Spoiler *Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.esp *FAR.esl *XDI.esm *TBOS-RaiderNormalFixMale.esl *TBOSBodyTalk2LooksMenu.esl *CBBE.esp  Kept going though, and stopped in the C.I.T Rotunda. Going to do more testing.
RitualClarity Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Looks good. I'd add the next set of "most desired mods" for the testing. (mentioning this more so for those that read this for learning purposes.. You got this! ) Â I am curious as to what is causing this issue.

I have checked a few things in FO4Edit, especially the mentioned Ranger Cabin area - no conflicts there, other than the UP's changes for one of them. You'll wanna apply filter for conflicts in xEdit [FO4Edit], and look through the worldspace/location/cell entries in any of the mods [bar the UFO4P] to give you a better idea of what edits what and where. Can give you an idea of what's breaking certain areas like the Ranger Cabin. Particularly since some mods don't mention edits to certain areas in their pages. Also worth enabling papyrus logging if you haven't already. Doesn't necessarily help narrow down CTD's too much, but again, can give you an idea of where to start, or spot other issues that could be having a knock-on effect.
