GrimReaper Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Facial_expressions_in_custom_animations herp derp. Anyone knows an easier way to do this? This tutorial seems almost like a secret ritual that you need to perform on a full moon and fully naked for it to work.

Unfortunately, "baking" facial animations into another animation isn't something that the engine was ever supposed to have to deal with, so there's no easy way to accomplish it. Frankly I'm astonished that someone actually figured out a way to do it, even if it did take three years to get it working.

[/quote'] I was just thinking that adding facial animations into Oblivion animations was fairly easy but it's a shitload of work to add some to Fallout 3 / Fallout NV.
JohnHead444 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I was looking into this to and found a tutorial for just basic blender animation with shape keys. It doesn't have any thing to do with fo3 or new Vegas in general. But it should still work. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Tutorials/Animation/BSoD/Character_Animation/Shapes
GrimReaper Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Another thing is that the tfc console command seems to disable any facial animation. Just look for yourself. Rotate your camera in 3rd person mode to see the face, then fire a shot or two, you'll see that the character will make an angry face. Now type in tfc and try the same, the face of your character remains static. If my theory is true then this would be kinda bad. Without the tfc command sex anims won't really work. @JohnHead: As far as I know the Fallout 3 engine (as well as the Oblivion engine) uses a third party software called facegen to animate the head. That's why it's a pain in the ass to modify any head - If you just move one vertice around or simply export the head with blender (blender can't create a 100% clone of the imported file, some vertices are always changed) the head won't work in the game. Making a new head or modifying an existing head is a lot of work since you need to tell the facegen software manually how to animate the head, I think you need a hex editor for that.
