[QUESTION] I need help with making a hair mod

I made a hair, shaped it to the size of character head. Now what? What kind of armature should the hair have? Some specific one that game would recognize or it does not matter? Does it matter what DDS version textures have? Do I have to check something specific in .nif exporter in blender before exporting? And what exactly I need to do in nifscope to make the mesh ready for creation kit?

Tip#1; Export it as a FO3 nif and then fix it as usual in Nifscope to work with Skyrim.  DO NOT update the tangent spaces in nifscope.

Tip#2; For a new hair nif, don't use the nif of a vanilla hair mesh. use a modded one like from KSStudios.

Open the KS nif and right click on the mesh's BSLightingShaderProperty and Block/COPY.  In your nif, right click on the BSLightingShaderProperty and Block/PASTE OVER.  You will then need to expand the BSLightingShaderProperty and repath the textures to your BSShaderTextureSet.  Once that is done Copy the Branch your mesh and paste it into the KS hair's NiNode.  Delete the original mesh.

Make a hairline version of your hair.  Use a KS one as a reference if you need to.

Add your new hair and hairline to the CK and go in game and check it out.

Simple way :

get additem menu mod

Add to your mesh DismemberSkinInstance data with 31 slot in 3d app > export your hair model with default NIF settings >

open it in NIfskope > copy\paste from any hair model their BSLightingShaderProperty with NiAlpha ( if you already made dds texture for it) >

update tangents [in nitrishape bs vector flags needs to be ON ~ Has_uv\has tangents] >

adjust textures path in BSShaderTextureSet > right click on open field > batch > update all tangent space > save.
Make equitable item Wig to test:

Open Creation Kit > new ArmorAddon item [using bandit helmet as reference in example] > check only slots 31\41 for hair dismemberskin data to render > add you hair mesh in Biped model >

Armor > new or use bandit helmet as a reference > edit name data \ID > slots [31] > models [ choose your hair ArmorAddon only ] > save new esp > check it in launcher > load game

Use additem menu to add your hair model in armors and equip it to test. Later see skyrimWiki how to make it as a Hair mod.
