is this a TS4-only issue, lmikeboyl, or your computer has no sound while playing other games?

if this is a TS4-only problem, a common procedure is to simply get into the game folder [ close the game —> then goto your "Documents" folder —> goto "Electronic Arts" folder —> goto "The Sims 4" folder ] and delete both the Config and Option files. eventually you'll have to reconfigure TS4's parameters, but your sound shall be working just fine.

hope this helps.

only TS4 problem, and I also tried that, but didn´t help, but thanks for the answer

Maybe the game is muted in Windows audio mixer.

Turn the game on then right-click on the audio icon in the system tray and see if it's muted or if the volume is turned down very low.

I have Realtek and Intel Display, I´m using realtek since Intel is hooked to my monitor and that one has no speakers.

a couple (three, actually) stupid questions, Mike — kind of last resort, really:

1. have you cleaned TS4 cache files?

2. have you repaired your game via Origin?

3. would you consider uninstalling TS4 and Packs?

That's strange. At this point I would suggest making sure it's not a base game issue.  Do this:

Go to /Documents/Electronic Arts and rename the folder called "The Sims 4" to something like "The Sims 4 backup"--This way you won't lose any files or settings. Then start the game and see if it still happens. If it solves the problem then you know it's not a base game issue and the problem stems from a mod. Next, start installing mods and checking them in game 1 by 1 as you go until you find the culprit.

Thanks for keeping us posted. It helps others if they ever come across the same problem.

But one thing to keep in mind is that reinstalling the game isn't going to affect the game settings at all because those settings are stored in your "documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4" folder and that sounds like where the problem starts imo. That's what I meant by it being a base game issue and why I suggested to do the above.

In fact, now that I think about, have you tried to delete your config file?

Go to /Documents/Electronic Arts/the Sims 4 and delete the file named "Config" (don't worry, it will reproduce itself when you start the game). Then start the game and see if it fixes the problem. If you do have sound, then adjust the settings to your liking, then restart the game.

Good luck.

i moved the sims 4 folder to me desktop before the reinstalation, in fact i did a new installation after that one that i told you and renamed (just in case) the sims 4 folder in my desktop, and i had sound in the first run, then i closed the game and opened it again and had no sound again, so it´s a base game issue, now the hard part is to find what is causing it,

Good deal. At least you know your on the right track.

At this point, could you post both the "Options" and "Config" file in /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 so I have better idea of what you're working with?

You are one of those people who just have really bad luck in real life don't you, haha j/k.

I could be wrong but this doesn't sound like a game issue anymore but more of Windows setting and/or audio driver issue.

That said, try this before we start taking extreme measures.

With no mods installed and Fresh install and NO changes to the in-game settings. I'm assuming that you still have the backed up "The sims 4" folder on your desktop? If so, continue.

1) Go to /Documents/Electronic Arts/ and DELETE the newly created "The Sims 4" folder.

2) Start the game

3) In the main menu; click options (top right hand side), audio and look at the options listed under both "speaker setup" and "Audio quality".

4) Try changing the audio quality to "high"(if not set by default) and then changing the "speaker setup" to different ranges (i.e Stereo, 5.1, 7.1, etc).

--------------------------------------
If that don't work, you said you are using realtek drivers. Do you have any other audio devices installed and connected to the computer or laptop like a headset, webcam, etc? At this point, could you do both of the following.

1) (Assuming you are using windows 10):

1a) With the game closed, post a txt file of all background processes running using command prompt.

1a1) Press Windows key (the key between Ctrl and Alt button your keyboard) and type "cmd" without the quoites. This will bring up the option to open the command prompt but don't click on it just yet.

1a2) Right click and select "Open as admin" <<<This needs to be done.

1a3) Copy/paste this without the quotes. "tasklist/svc > c:\Sims ONE.txt" -- This will create a text file called "Sims" on you C drive

1a4) Next, start the game until you are at the main menu.

1a5) Use alt-tab to minimize the game (DO NOT CLOSE IT) .

1a6) Repeat the same process as described above in sections 1a-1a3 but this time in 1a3, type "tasklist/svc > c:\Sims TWO.txt" without the qoutes.

Upload BOTH text files.

-----------------------------------------

Something else to try  (Assuming you are using windows 10):

1) Right-click on the audio icon in the system tray>>Sounds and look at which audio device listed has a green check mark next to it.

2) Right-clikc on the device and select "Properties"

3) In the dialog box you will different options. Slect "Advanced"

4) Click "restore defaults"

5) Click Apply and OK

6) Start the game
