Charging Money for Mods?

I am currently working on a model complete with a set of textures, a rig, and slider controls (shape keys) to work in Source Filmmaker.  Given the amount of work I have put in, I want to charge money for downloads.

Pros:

+ Getting paid for my time and work.

+ Encourage further modding projects from yours truly.

+ I can offer additional services for more pay, which includes texture creation and fitting.

Cons:

 - Will make my model less popular than another that is offered for free.  That model is not made for animating after using it myself.

 - My content may get pirated.

What do you guys think?  For those who are currently selling mods, how do you do it?  As for options, I can either offer it for free and hope people will tip in the long run or sell for about $5 - $10 a piece with optional services offered.

I don't plan on selling them here anyway, but I can upload them here if I decide against selling them.

if someone donates for your work, is perfectly fine.
But desire for money is never good here.

Generally people will post a free download here with an optional link to sponsor/support/donate at another site,

People don't like it when the site is used for advertising but if you behave as an active member and ensure there is a un-paywalled version here then you shouldn't have any problems and be in a better position to get some feedback,

An incentive you can offer is early access to new features for supporters and as long as things are not held back as "exclusive" you may have a greater chance of avoiding piracy

After reading your posts and giving it some thought, I won't charge money for my mod and ask for donations.  I do want to ask how can I be convincing enough to receive tips without looking desperate?

just add your patreon as your motto or what ever its called or in the forum post about the download with a little message like " if you enjoy my mods you can donate to my patreon for a sneak peak" or something like that

that too is not allowed here, add from links that lead to pay sites like Paypal or Patreon! :classic_wink:

edit: when he asks for donations, then he could specify a donation account.
But here too I'm not sure, that best a PM to Ashal and ask.

Just put a link to your thing in your signature,

You can also post a link on the download page with a short message explaining that support will help or allow more time for future development etc,

As long as it doesn't lead to adfly or another source of malware

Not entirely accurate,

You can post your link to support,

The case when this is not allowed is if a version of the product is not freely available, meaning that the site is being used to advertise and sell mods,

The other case is in which an author requires financial support to begin the project. It's gotta be done for the love and finance to be viewed as a bonus/reward not a necessity.

Sorry, I have expressed myself wrong.
Of course there is Links to Patreon, but the mods must be freely available, so it must not be a mod payment.
There, the mod author can ask for a donation.
but unfortunately were in the past here on LL some mods hidden behind a paywall, these were removed by the moderators.
and yes, I do not speak English, once again sorry for the misunderstanding.
