ShenGo Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 I'm not sure how to go about this. I already have my desired mesh and texture (even if its not perfect) but when I follow the tutorial for making a new addon, and add the Snow Elves to the allowed races, SOS tells me the addon is dirty and refuses to load it. I tried cleaning it in TES5edit (which said it wasn't dirty) with the same result, and if I apply a premade addon to the race, it says it's equipped, but it's not visible. I know there isn't much demand for this... After all, there are only two Snow Elves. But it BREAKS immersion like crazy when I take Vyrthur's gear and find a giant hole in his crotch, just for starters. Plus I have a mod that allows the TRUE Snow Elf race to be playable. Those are just a couple of reasons I want this. How can I fix this problem? My custom vanilla races use them just fine. And I found a thread where someone told someone how to do this, but... Well I was sort of lost one sentence into the explanation, and I'd hate to irreparably break something... Edit: Here is the thread I found: But the instructions are long winded, yet not quite detailed enough for a novice like me. For example, it says to "add to 'the' armor list", but I'm not sure WHAT armor list. If they mean create an armo and arma, the addon already has one, and I even added the Snow Elves to the list of races the arma/armo was allowed for in the right panel.

I'm looking for an addon that supports the vanilla Snow Elves. The ones from Dawnguard with the white and pink skin. Edit: I just looked at the mod that was for... Its really not of interest to me... I don't want anything that changes Gelebor and Vyrther, I think they look perfect with their vanilla texture. That addon requires the Snow Elf mod's esp, and I really don't like how it changes Gelebor. I know how to remove an NPC overhaul, so I guess if I have no other choice I'll try it... But it seems like a bit of a complex mod for what I want to do, especially since I already have a different mod that makes them playable. Edit 2: No such luck. After seeing the overhaul mod claim the overhauls and followers were optional, I stayed up an extra hour downloading it and the SOS addon and copying over my textures to replace those of that mod, yet when I tried to use the SOS addon, it still warned me that the race wasn't SOS compatible, and Vyrthur still has a massive hole in his crotch. >.< I assume it has something to do with this: "Does this plugin give genitals to Gelebor, Vyrthur, or either of the Snow Elf Followers? No, because they do not belong to the main mod's Snow Elf Race. You can still open the SOS MCM and manually apply Snow Elf SOS Genitals to them if you want." So while I can apply it 'if I want', that doesn't seem to mean it will work any better than any of the other addons. >.<
RW311 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 So what I would do is take that mod as a template, replace the models and textures with the ones you have then edit all the plugins race records so they use vanilla snow elf race and then you have it.

I'll try that, but I actually tried that already with a DIFFERENT SOS plugin that didn't require another mod to work, and that too got me the "dirty addon" warning. It seems every time I add the Snow Elves to the races, SOS thinks the addon is problematic and refuses to use it. I don't understand why I should have so much trouble adding another vanilla race when SOS was DESIGNED for vanilla races, but lo and behold, adding vanilla Snow Elves breaks the plugin no matter what plugin it is. Edit: Hmm, curious.... Even though I followed the addon tutorial for both a NEW addon, and editing an existing one to work for Snow Elves (I can't imagine I'd miss a step twice, but... whatever), this time, I followed the tutorial for the exact same existing addon (so I wouldn't have to have any extra plugins loaded), and this time it worked. It even added a new slot in the probability settings, at the very bottom of the MCM section for the addon, a second "High Elf" setting that apparently means Snow Elves. Incidentally, in an EXISTING save, that new 'High Elf' entry in the MCM isn't visible... I may have to try removing, saving, THEN adding the edited version of the esp (nope, that doesn't add it back lol), but whether its listed or not, manually applying worked! So yay, happy dance!
RW311 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 The dirty addon message comes from adding a race to the existing addons form list without also expadning the new race into the race compatibility and race probability global list. Well there are other things that can cause sos to shut off also but this is probably the step you missed. The first link you posted the poster is trying to explain how to do this but the explanation is not going to make sense without references. In the addon under form id lists you have compatible races, race probabilities, and race sizes. The number of entires into race probability and race size corresponds to the number of races listed in compatible races so if you add a race into the compatible race form id you must add another entry to these form lists which means you must create the new entry in the global lists because all of this information is needed for the core mod. You can add a new race into the armor addon additional races list and not add it to any form list and will not have this problem but this only makes it possible for the armor addon to be visible on the race it does not enable any scripts to run on that race, this is probably why you can manually add snow elves in that mod I posted even if it doesn't have an mcm function.

I really appreciate all your help. I tried twice a month ago and apparently missed the same step both times. Hell, I MIGHT even be able to make a NEW addon for them now, instead of hijacking an existing one and replacing its meshes and textures (if I have the patience, lol). Now... If I can just figure out why SOS bodies screw up every time I edit them, I'll be in business. XD

Can't seem to get it to work in SSE. Anyway, this isn't something I'm interested in investigating, so I doubt I'll ever be able to apply an SOS schlong to either of the Dawnguard snow elves. Edit: I remember how I did it. You won't like it though. I had my Gelebor and Vyrthur Overhaul plugin installed, which switches them over to the player's Snow Elf Race, which thus made their bodies compatible with my SOS Snow Elf Plugin. Screenshots:

Screenshots: Reveal hidden contents Thank you, I appreciate your response. I managed to get an addon working for them. Its not applied automatically, but at least it's not invisible. Considering there are only 2 Snow Elves, having to apply them manually isn't the worst case scenario, lol. XD I HAVE tinkered a bit with your race mod, btw. Its very well done, and I'm almost tempted to keep it, but I have a ton of plugins as it is. I love that a lot of features are optional, and the vanilla textures can be restored. I think how different their texture is from other races is what intrigued me about them back when I watched my husband play on console.
ShenGo Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 I've had at least one person express interest in what I've done, so here it (and the skin edit I made to go with it) is in all it's seamed glory, lol. After all, I only made it to satisfy myself, so I don't claim it to look perfect.
Wowcomix Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I know I'm late to this party, but are you planning to release this, ShenGo? This has been bothering me too and I don't have the skills or talent to fix it myself.

This has been bothering me too and I don't have the skills or talent to fix it myself. And now I'm late to the party too, lol. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I CAN release this, since it uses a mesh I didn't get permission to publish (I made it only for personal use). It also uses another SOS plugin as a template, since when I tried to make my own from scratch, it was a complete failure. So unfortunately, this just sets the Dwemer SOS addon to work for Snow Elves, and replaces the meshes and textures with Leito's mesh, and a texture I made using Leito's texture as a template. Even if I was able to make one from scratch and get it working, I'd probably still need Leito's permission for the mesh and texture. EDIT: Aight, so the good news is, I got it working as a STANDALONE mod, instead of just replacing the meshes and textures of an existing one. The BAD news is, it still seems to be physically impossible to convince the game to apply it to any Snow Elves automatically. That's not TOO big an issue, since there are so few Snow Elves, I just spawn copies of them in the testing cell, adding their schlongs that way, disable them, then return to Skyrim and go about normal gameplay; this results in then having schlongs when I meet them. ALSO, the SOS menu refuses to list the race as Snow Elves, and instead adds a SECOND entry for High Elves, AND, it still uses Leito's mesh and (mostly) texture, which I would have to acquire permission to publish. A friend of mine made a beautiful replacement for Vyrthur and Gelebor. If she ever released it, she would like to package my addon with it (with permission from Leito), especially since she had quite a hand in making the texture. But she's hesitant about releasing it since it's not everyone's cup of tea; Gelebor came out very ethereal and pretty. I love him, but not everyone will.

Hi @ShenGo I have also been trying to make SOS for Dawnguard Snow Elves. I took a different approach of creating an ESP patch with override records rather than an SOS Addon. I also see the same issue where Schlongs are not applied to Snow Elves automatically. I would love to be able to see your approach and compare with what I have been working on.

Unfortunately, I never did get it to apply automatically, I just settled for it showing up at all when I applied it manually (before, no matter what I did, they were still stuck with a crotch hole lol). What I did as a workaround was, after getting all my mods configured in new saves, I would spawn the Snow Elves (usually in the test cell), apply them manually, then click them in console and type 'disable' to get rid of the clones. That made it so when I encountered them for real in that playthrough, they would be schlongified. My esp is really nothing special. It's made like any other addon, but with Snow Elves added in the necessary records so their schlongs wouldn't be invisible.

With my patch, Snow Elf schlongs are automatic for a new game, but Snow Elf schlongs must be applied manually if you have already encountered the Snow Elf NPCs in an existing game.

Out of curiosity, how did you get it to work? Does it change the Snow Elf race?? Since my reply here, I've made 'Charmers of the Reach' overhauls of my Snow Elves, so depending on how your mod tells the game which race to apply the schlongs to, it might not work for me; COTR is a custom race. Not only that, but if your mod edits the vanilla race, it still won't work even if I don't use COTR, because I used a mod that edited the vanilla race before that (it gave them vanilla style SOS skin with a specular map and mesh settings unique to Snow Elves, among other things). Keeping the look of the vanilla skin and such is more important to me than having auto-applied schlongs. Edit: I also see this is SE only. I usually play LE, and when I DO play SE, I only have a COTR Snow Elf mod available, so it probably won't work for me. Ahh well, lol.
