crystalmay Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Ok so I have had my sim for quite some time. She has built all of her skills, she has the amazing mods of basement drugs and wicked whims and a bunch of others. Among other traits she has gregarious and clubber, so she really likes to go out and meet others, flirt and get laid. In all the time I have been playin the sims, I have never really just let my sims be autonomous, I have always controlled them. I finally decided to just follow my sim around for 24 hours and see what she would do on her own, after sending her to a club. She got all coked up and did her molly and all of that, but then she surprised me... There was a large crowd downstairs on the dance floor and they were all dancin and groovin to the tunes and there were several guys and girls following my sim around, yet nobody was speaking to eachother. My sim had whims of meeting someone new and flirting and yet... despite these people all around her, she sat down to one of the tables to chat on the computer, while a circle of people stood around her... she didn't acknowledge them. Then she got up and went into the bathroom to mop up a puddle.... then went outside to clean up some trash, then back to the table to chat on the computer... then back into the bathroom to mop up the puddle again (broken sink). She basically went on like this all night long... never speaking to anyone, never flirting, even though one of her whims was to flirt. When I finally sent her home, she checked herself into rehab! lol. I never knew my sim was such a wall flower without my controlling her! So I wonder... are the sims not meant to be autonomous?
Guest Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Sims are kinda dumb, in all honesty. You could build them a beautiful house, but put down a good computer and they'd sit on it 18 hours a day. Best thing to do is just delete objects that get constant use in a lot, to force them to do other things.

If i remember correctly certain objects have a aura they give off that basically forces sims to use them... computers are one of the ones that has the highest value in that stat. whenever i have a computer in my homes i lock the doors so noone can get to them unless i unlock the doors.
TentacleBandit Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I remember reading about a GDC where Sims AI guy talked, said that Sims AI is actually pretty smart on its own but is influenced by whats in the room or trait overrides. I've never actually tried it but I bet if you used a ton of "don't use computer" type mods and stuff the AI might be cool on its own without them influencers! Damn their everywhere though right?!
crystalmay Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I will remove the computers from the club, they don't really seem to have much impact on the business of the club anyhow. I imagine the water puddle on the bathroom floor also has some sort of priority given to it, seeings that she kept running in there to mop up. It isn't really a big deal, I always control my sim anyhow. This time I just wanted to see what she would do left all on her own without any interference at all from me. My sims who are left at home don't do too well either. I have some who are career oriented, ambitious and business minded for fortune and career success and all of that and they can't get themselves ready for work even. They do go to work on their own but they go to their jobs with red bars for bladder, food and sleep, and they won't perform their daily tasks for their jobs on their own either, like practice writing or singing or whatever.
AttritionofContrition Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 MCCC has an autonomy tuning feature where you can disable many of the more annoying autonomous activities such as pc use, random situps, getting a glass of water, etc. It's not restricted to just a few though, you can disable almost everything if you want.
crystalmay Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Awesome, thanks for that! I have installed MCC but some of those settings I have not played with, but now you saying that... well I will have to mess around with some of those settings and see what i get.
GECK.O Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Based on my observation, TS4 sims is more stupid than TS3's. I left my game run by itself around 30 minutes, most of the motive bars are red, and I had peeing on pant emoticon on some of the Sims. May be because I added many scripted mods and must use Simulation Fix to force it to work smoothly.

It felt like sims actually went about their lives. In Sims 4, they just stand around, then they do something, then they do something else, and it feels like their just doing things (whatever thing seems interesting at the time) for the sake of doing something, not because they actually want to do it.

This is what I was thinking too. Seems like Maxis took a real nose dive on alot of the important things. I had been wondering if SIMS for the most part, were not intended by Maxis to be autonomous. Maybe they wanted us end users to control them completely? Maybe in their line of thinking they were giving us more to do? I don't know, just giving them the benefit of the doubt here! *snickers into her hand*
GECK.O Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I wonder if there a mod to make sims smarter? At least when one of the motive bar get yellow or red, it will force the Sims to fill it. And if there is nothing to do, they will choose to do job or daily task, like doing homework or cleaning the house. And when the day off, sims tend to do their hobby or take a leaisure. As well as friends will came to the house more frequently during this time.

The Sims 3 had an autonomy mod built in one of the NCCA moduals which I thought worked pretty well at keeping your "NPC" sims active, busy, and motivated. I'm surprised nobody has adopted anything like it for Sims 4.
