Well you could always have filed an appeal with their administrators if you felt obligated to. Obviously you need some kind of proof to it, and her saying "go ahead" was basically giving you the OK to do it so you had something to go off of.

 

The nexus is genuinely great and even better now than before with the addition of the mod manager especially. They are tough on the rules, but the rules are pretty straight forward which makes dogtown look like an idiot. Yes, he is a skilled modder, but disregarding copyrights could very well get any website shut down, especially if you are the most popular one. Not to mention it isn't necessary in the first place, at that point dogtown is getting greedy. He had plenty of assets as is. I don't think the concept of permissions is one that is very difficult to follow.

there's infinite degrees of response between "ban" and "do nothing" all of which have "talk to the uploader" in them. If there had been the slightest discussion with the author about the content of his mod, I guarantee that a solution could have been put in place and no regular user of the site would have been the wiser. Period.

 

I spent summer '12 writing a website with a friend based on codeigniter (php) and mongodb with jquery interfacing (it was originally supposed to be a porn tube site) and I would absolutely love to practically give it to an existing community to transform it from say a forum into a modders database. I'm not about to try and start one from scratch all on my lonesome, but I have the software. That and Mod Organizer (in my sig) is a perfect solution to the "wtf" kinda things that continually happen over there.

idky he just doesn't upload it to the steam workshop....wouldn't that be even EASIER to deal with than a website? doesn't steam allow you to upload content directly through the steam client?

Pretty sure Steam Workshop won't allow you to use any assets from other games.

Steam would remove SkyMoMod pretty fast from the WorkShop. Steam is even more strict about such mods than any other Website.

 

It's available on VGUNetwork tho, as stated earlier, and the registration process has been made easier now.

Shame though the Nexus does this kind of thing. Turned to paranoid people and a hugbox. Lost many mods to this excuse because I had to reinstall my OS due to HDD failure.

 

When I first heard of VGU network, I do believe that it was called Vault Underground, and absolutely hated the idea of forced posting just to download mods that weren't anywhere else.

 

I find the site cumbersome and quite broken with their adblock detection (still blocks me when i whitelist the site). Had to use an alternate browser, and the download itself took 4 hours with all the throttling.

 

 

I really do not partake in any community at all, due to being a giant anti-social, and wary of Bioware-tier mods that would just ban you for your opinion (they have them on the nexus, guy got banned for badmouthing a mod even if he was right).

 

 

What I'm trying to say is, we really need a new way of sharing/uploading mods that won't fly on the nexus.

After reading all the stuff about it i have to be honest dogtown kind of had it comming. Banning him might of been to far but using copyrighted assets is a fair enough reason to be removed from a site whos owner does not agree with it.

A little help, guys. Have you been able to download the file properly? Because I've downloaded it a number of times now from both VGUNetwork and ModDB, and it always comes up with a broken file error. So has it worked for you?
