Skyrim crashing on load

So I've been modding skyrim for a long time (and lurking on these forums without posting for almost as long) and I've finally encountered an error that I can't solve on my own.

Before starting up my most recent file, I made a few fairly innocuous changes to my setup: Installed a couple flora mods and a few performance mods that removed insignificant objects and some fx and stuff, and changed my ENB. A ways into that file, the game started ctd'ing on load on about 80% of saves. I made a totally new file and started over, only to have it happen again. Uninstalled some of the new stuff, thought I'd fixed it, only to have it happen again a little while later (at least confirming that it wasn't the flora mods I guess). The papyrus log is incomprehensible to me, and I'm pretty much stumped at this point, so I'm finally biting the bullet and asking for help here.

I'm using MO and playing on oldrim.

Nothing jumps out to me in your log.

I do see some errors from DD and ZAP. But it doesn't look that bad.

How many animations have you got installed?

Does FNIS give you errors?

Did you update your SKSE and/or ENB version?

Did you install Sheson's Memory Patch?

Do you have all the (inofficially) recommended mods installed / settings in place to make Oldrim mostly stable?

  1. Are you on the latest Windows 10 version (1809) and have you set up ENB to use more than 4GB of VRAM because 1809 finally fixed the 4GB VRAM limit for DX9 and thus making Skyrim hugely more stable? This allows you to use much more HighRes Textures.
    1. enblocal.ini VideoMemorySizeMb=[VALUE IN MEGABYTES]
    2. Download the ENB vram checker (http://enbdev.com/download_vramsizetest.htm) to find out how much you can use but don't go over 10GB (10240). You need to use the DX9 exe
  2. Follow the STEP wiki to set up Skyrim and ENB inis: https://wiki.step-project.com/Main_Page
  3. Remove outdated crash fix plugins such as Safetyload and Continuegamenocrash and replace them with the following:
    1. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725?tab=files
      1. This will probably fix your problem as you use an extreme amount of mods and your loading crash might result from the 65655 strings limit you surpass, this mod fixes that.
      2. You can check if your savegame surpasses that limit by downloading The Fallrim Tools (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76776) start Resaver.exe, open your latest save and check the number of strings. If the number of strings surpasses 65655 and you dont use the crash fixes plugin, ALL YOUR SAVEGAMES WILL CRASH NO MATTER WHAT. See the screenshot below.
    2. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/85443/ (ignore that it says its not maintained)
  4. Look for updates of all your mods BUT check compatibility with others. (for example ETAC WIP version is still hugely incompatible with other mods such as Great Forest of Whiterun Hold, etc...)
  5. Check if you use the latest Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition patch (no joke, i was still using an old 2015 version and just realized a week ago that there was a update in 2017)
  6. Use LOOT to sort your load order BUT check with SeLab mods that require manual adjustments such as MoreNastyCritters, Estrus, etc.
  7. Whenever you delete mods: Clean your saves with the Fallrim Tools and enter deleted mods in the filter. Delete scripts and forms of the deleted mods. See screenshot #2 below. Also, delete unattached instances in Fallrim tools via Clean->Remove unattached instances.

Installing and uninstalling stuff is usually a bit critical in Skyrim.

I assume that you have alreday checked/cleaned your save file from stuck debris of changed mods, right?

Next idea might be to have a look at the SKSE cosave .. if it's beyond 500k it might be a good idea to clean it as well (e.g. with NIO cleaner)

Overall: ENB, textures, high resolution ... it all might be fine in a single case. But if you sum it up you may easily reach the limits => DANG.

In fact, what you describe might be caused by the troublesome memory management in Skyrim.

Thanks for all the responses!

I do have the memory patch, SKSE and my ENB are fully updated, FNIS returns no errors, saves are clean, et cetera

Howeeever, I had 424 sexlab animations installed. I went through and suppressed ones that I never used and the issue seems to be resolved after getting it down closer to 360. I'll update if it happens again (and none of the other suggested solutions work, although I tried most of them/had already implemented them).

Lol, i use close to 750 animations with the SL animations limit increaser as well as a huge amount of FNIS animations with FNISXXL and i never had any problems... I really dont think that is your main problem.

Do make sure you really have the CrashFixPlugin installed and up-to-date that i mentioned above. This thing is golden (experience).
