My wife almost lost the baby in third month of the pregnancy. She didn't ask me what will I do if doctor tells me: "We can save only one of them; the mother or the baby. The choice is yours. Whom you want to save?"

I'm totally crazy about my wife, but I love our baby no less then her. If she would tell me to save the baby and let her die I wouldn't know what to do. I want to respect her wish, but I love her too much and I'm not sure if I can obey her. If I disobey her will, she will never forgive me, but if I do, I will never forgive myself. I hope I will never have to face with such a tough choice. What would you do?

Correct me if I'm wrong but from a legal standpoint it should be the mother that makes the decision. Sure the baby belongs to both of you but in matters of life or death the ultimate decision is the one who might end up dieing unless for some odd reason pregnancy counts as "under the influence".

In our country the law says that if the baby jeopardizing mother's life, the doctors HAS TO remove the baby regardless mother's or father's wish to preserve baby's life. I asked this question in the case my wife wants to have baby delivery in the country which allows parents to decide. My wife's wish might be to preserve baby's life no matter if she can die. I'm not fine with that decision, but love is about respect your loved one's wish too. That's why I'm in dilemma.

Your country probably has the right idea. I'm all for abortion but I'm also for the idea of choosing your own fate(Not to make it sound dramatic). With that myuhinny brings up a good point that you can try again. Just explain to your wife that you love her that you would miss her dearly when she is gone(Sappy I know).

Of course you don't have to listen to the ramblings of a bored pig.
