Mecha_Face Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 So, basically, I must be a total moron because I can't get any mods to work. At first, despite specifying the game's path at first start up, MO2 insisted on putting all the mods into its folder in Appdata. No big deal, okay, I can handle that. I use settings to change the path of the game directory to the correct one. I start installing mods again... And it just puts them all in separate folders inside a folder called Mods in that directory. Right. Well, it's been a while since I did heavy modding, maybe I'm just being paranoid. I start the game... Not only are none of the mods for prettification of the game working (like CBBE and EVB), there doesn't seem to be any way to access MCM in-game! And my mod list at the main menu shows no mods on the load order, so obviously something isn't quite right here. What am I doing wrong? Is it supposed to work with mods in their own separate folders, with their meshes, etc. folders not being in the game directory's Data folder correctly? This is especially frustrating since I followed the AAF Beginner's guide, and that's a LONG process.
Elizinator Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 yes, the way MO works is with different folders. this gets around the overwrite problem entirely. you do not want it installing mods in the data folder. this is why you have to start skyrim from MO, so its virtual file system works. "mods" like ENB and SKSE itself - anything which wouldnt go into the Data folder - probably needs to be installed manually. then you tell MO where the skse.exe, and run it form there. finally, after you install a mod with MO, make sure its folder is checked. if it isnt, the content of that folder wont be loaded. for more detail, check out gamer poets videos.
Mecha_Face Posted November 24, 2018 Author Posted November 24, 2018 I did check all the boxes. It's just that it still used exactly none of the checked mods anyway. I'll give it another go, though.

As the previous reply - this is how MO2 works. All mods are installed in to the Mods\yourmodname folder. MO2 keeps all of the mods outside of the game folder and virtualizes a data folder based on what you had ticked the boxes on, at runtime. If you are not seeing any mods when the game starts, it sounds like you are launching the game through other means. Make sure that you are always launching FO4 through MO2 - and if you are using F4SE based mods (if you have AAF you are), then you must launch F4SE through MO2 (which will launch the game).
Mecha_Face Posted November 25, 2018 Author Posted November 25, 2018 Yes, I was doing that. It's been a while since I modded a Bethesda game, but it's not my first rodeo! I already fixed it after the first reply, it turns out MO2 just decided to deactivate a mod without my say so, and it fixed it.
