JobiWanUK Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Hey all I've been away from LL for a while and I'm a bit out of touch. I decided to start from scratch with Skyrim SE and Sexlabs stuff but I'm wondering which mod manager to go with. I use MO for Oldrim and it works well but I've heard it's problematic. I've installed Vortex and watched Gopher's vids but he's not finished the series yet. It seems OK so far but I just wanted recommendations on which one to use for best results with SE and SL mods, NMM, MO, MO2 or Vortex. I know there are Wyre Bash etc too but I've never used these other methods. Apologies if this has been covered, I did do a search but couldn't find much up to date information, especially about Vortex with SL.
srayesmanll Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 MO2 is the one I use and it works fine. Have not had any issues using it with either SSE or FO4. Vortex is "new" (it's been in alpha for a while so not really new, but just recently went to "beta") and I have not tested it myself. I'd say if you are familiar with MO already from Oldrim, use MO2 as there is not much difference.
DarkQuelaag Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 I used to use MO for Oldrim, stopped for a long time and when I got SE I used MO2 but I for some reason I just didn't like it. I use Vortex now, it's pretty good and quite intuitive. I do miss manual sorting but you can use overrides instead and have it always remember to do that override. Plus I appreciate that when you double click on a nexus mod, you get a little picture of what it is - I tend to forget what mods I have. Honestly speaking, you just got to try both over time.
Lodakai Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Use mod organizer 2 if you want full control over your mod conflicts... and a little bit easier time debugging problems. The trade off is that it might take you some time to acquaint yourself with mod organizer and this will bite into the length of time for you to get into your actual game by as much as a week. Throughout the process you will also need to learn to use all the tools available to fully optimize and debug your game. Once mastered... there is no better mod manager. Steep learning curve. Use Vortex if you prefer not to manage your mods too much and prefer a more plug and play style experience. Conflict resolution between mods will be a bit more difficult in the long run, but you will get to play out of the box with a lighter mod load.
Guest Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 MO2 has been updated to the point where all the major issues are gone. The alternatives seems to be more limited/inferior in terms of control over your install setup and mod files (IMO). Also, if you're familiar with MO already why change now?
Guest Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 As a long time Mod Organizer user who just switched to Vortex a couple months ago, I think either is fine. If you're already familiar with Mod Organizer then just use that (make sure to use the one from here though as old MO is not compatible with SSE). I'm mostly just using Vortex to eliminate any problems I might have with my game that are related to Mod Organizers virtual filesystem.
aim4it Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 For me, Vortex has too many 'for dumb users' optimizations that add useless extra steps that I have to override. MO2 does everything a mod manager should do, hopefully, the project never dies again...
ButchDiavolo Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 To add to the chorus: MO2. Plain and simple. I have tried Vortex for a while, but it is too... um "idiot proof". I like to be able to sort my mods the way *I* want it and not what it/ loot tells me it should be. And MO2 is still very actively developped and very sturdy. So yeah, MO2. Especially if you are already familiar with MO.
JobiWanUK Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 Thanks for all the quick and helpful comments. I think I'll check out MO2 as I'm familiar with MO.
