Darkening Demise Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 I'm thinking of dropping cable (yes I know I'm a caveman) and getting a HDMI cable to run from my PC to my TV. How do I go about playing the media program to display to the TV and play through there while I play my games and browse the web?
Guest Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Set up the HDMI cable to the TV as secondary monitor. Triple check the actual resolution of the TV when setting up as monitor because not all TVs support the monitor protocol to identify themselves correctly. Then, in VLC, there are options to define the standard output. You need the advance config mode, but you can find how to do it on internet.
Reginald_001 Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Buy a Google Chromecast (they're very cheap, $39 at the time of writing). Then you can stream wireless to your chromecast from within VLC, to any television you hook it up to. That's the way I do it. Never looked back since. The cool part is that you stream to it from any device, your phone, your tablets, etc..
flatliner10 Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 To throw in another option: Many TV's/Receivers have a network port or even Wifi, and support streaming to them naively without extra hardware, as soon they are in the same network as your computer. Many already have a Netflix app, so you can also use them for that once they got internet access. And if you happen to own a Fritzbox (router/modem) they can act as a streaming server, by just plugging a HDD into them and do some settings.
