Disabling Updates

does everyone disable steam updates? just wondering what the best practice is and what everyone else is doing. coming from oldrim I really didn't have to think about this.

You can't completely disable updates for Fallout 4 (sadly enough). You can "delay" the update(s) by running steam in Offline mode however. Make sure to back your .exe file from your WORKING Fallout 4 installation and overwrite it with the new "fixed" (what a joke, right?) .exe that the update installed. If you forgot to backup your exe however and still want to rollback because... well it's just so nice to play Fallout 4 with mods, then check out this Nexus mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33561

My method I use:

- NMM

- F4SE for launching the game

- Steam setup to only update Fallout 4 when launching it

Just for your info, launching the game thru the F4SE executable isnt recognised by Steam as launching the game. So I'm not bothered and Steam dodn't updated my game past the 1.9.4 version.

This method works very well, I am still running a version of FO4 from March doing this exact same thing. If you want to change any settings normally done via the standard FO4 launcher get a program that allows you to adjust the ini settings separately.

I had this config but steam still updated it although it seems like it was delayed a few days.

The best way is to go into the app and tick the read only option for the FO4 game on the desktop and in the steam folder. Next go into the rights, and in the advanced options for the admins, tick the deny write in both locations. 

 

Like you, I was forced to update when I launched through the script extender, and it caused my computer to be unable to play anymore. That last June update made my computer not met the barest requirements. Now I am able to play again, albeit the game is unstable. And I am forced to restart again. Trust me when I say make you game read only and unselect the write ability. This latest update has no affect on me.

The only other thing I can think of that may be forcing updates is the main menu updates for the Creation Club. I also use a mod that disables that so it may be a factor (or not, who knows). All I know is the version I am on is v1.10.75.0 which was from 3/3/18.
