Bandit and Forsworn NPCs for YII-TECHNIQUES-LABORS *Children of the Sky*

After more testing I need the COTS .esm file to avoid the "whites eyes bugs". It's allow to change the color of the eyes of vanilla races. With the COTS .esp file, we can't change it and so eyes stay white.

As tsuki no mori explain on the first page of that topic, we need to overwrite the Bandit and Forsworn .esp file of the ../Data directory with the one we find in the Data/ESMVersion directory.

I'll put all this in the OP too ...

Unless you're starting a new character or have some other compelling reason to swich back to the ESP version, I would recommend staying with the ESM version until you do.

If you switch from ESM to ESP (or vice versa) you will get the transparent head effect. To correct this, you need to change your character's race to something else and then back to Sky Child. If you use console commands to switch to OrarezeRacex117Vampire and back to OrarezeRacex117 this seems to preserve both your appearance and your skill levels but it only lasts until you quite SkyRim. When you restart, you have to do it again. I did this for a long time until I got tired of doing it. A batch file for doing this would be:

player.setrace OraezeRaceX117Vampire

player.setrace OraezeRaceX117

If you switch to a different race entirely and then back. If you're careful, you can preserve your appearance but you will have all your skill levels reset. So, before you do this, create a text file that will restore your skills:

player.setav smithing 94

player.setav heavyarmor 77

player.setav block 26

player.setav twohanded 79

player.setav onehanded 33

player.setav marksman 64

player.setav lightarmor 24

player.setav sneak 55

player.setav lockpicking 52

player.setav pickpocket 16

player.setav speechcraft 80

player.setav alchemy 71

player.setav illusion 16

player.setav conjuration 20

player.setav destruction 32

player.setav restoration 31

player.setav alteration 25

player.setav enchanting 77

with the numbers replaced by your current stats of course.

I would strongly suggest using the enhanced Race Menu mod that's on the Nexus. It lets you change to a different race without having to scroll through other races. I had success switching to Nord (I think, possibly Young Nord) and back and my character's appearance was preserved.  After you save your character, run the batch file you created and off you go.

Oh, one more thing to mention, bringing up the Race Menu is problematic for some people, especially because it has to load Apachii hair so it can crash or freeze. It helps to go to an interior cell that doesn't have much in it, unequip everything you can and be in third person perspective. I can usually get the Race Menu to show reliably this way.

This is really nice although I wish there were more boys in there.

That will be coming in the rewrite of the mod. It's mainly the lack of male X117 armor that's limited the number of boys. Some are starting to appear now and I will seek permission to use them in this mod.

glad to see the pink hair is gone. Strange new thing, though: encountered a loli bandit that was headless, nude (despite having armor equipped), and stuck in a T position (even when killed, she just hovered in place). On a whim, I disabled and enabled her, which fixed her. I've only seen this once, so it may not be new, just rare.

Also, are some of the forsworn lolis supposed to have boyish hairstyles? I mean, they weren't too odd for a girl, but in one case I thought it was a boy until I got close for looting.

edit: for some reason, I can't manually remove the boys from the esp anymore. When I do, the game CTDs at the main menu.

This might be a vanilla Skyrim bug. I've seen it before but only on male Khajiit. But what you're describing is the same symptoms. I haven't decided that my messing with leveled lists, armor lists and head part lists isn't part of the problem yet though.

Yes, I deliberately chose short cropped hair for some of the Foresworn. Just cuz, I guess. :)

Do you want a version with no male x117 bandits? I could see about making that an option while I'm redoing the bandits in the rewrite. The reason for the CTDs is probably the references to removed NPCs in the leveled lists. I'm surprised it ever worked. They are not going to be hardcoded in the next version though, but rather loaded dynamically so it'll be possible to add options like "no boys".

That and, "only boys"

What are advantages and inconvenient t

To use .esp files instead. Of .esm ones ?

ESP

Uses unmodified COTS.

Unmodified COTS allows other modes that rely on to run.

COTS can be updated with little chance of breaking this.

tsuki no mori needs to do 1 or 2 more easy steps when making updates this mod.

ESM

Requires modified COTS.

Updates to COTS must be converted even if the update did not change anything this would rely on. (like happened with the last COTS update)

Other mods that rely on COTS and expect the ESP version may not work or cause CTD.

Easier for other moders to tweak (most moders should know how to convert the ESP one).

Avoids load order problems.

Can't get it working. Only have version 2 of "Children of the sky"

ok what is it doing exactly? ctd? or just not showing up when activated..

if you are getting a ctd you need to make sure you have the Apachii hair installed.. not just the one that comes with COTS2..

i was having trouble at first as well... then went and downloaded that and boom all worked well...

if that isn't it let me know what it is doing and we will see if we can find the problem.....

Had a floating head adult male bandit today. When i killed him it turned out he was wearing the Archer Cuirrass X117.

This is really puzzling behavior but I've seen it happen too.  But I may have a clue. Vanilla Skyrim accidentally has a melee-type male in the leveled list that it pulls low level missile using bandits from.  The Unofficial Skyrim Patch fixes this and correctly makes that NPC a missile user but, my version of that leveled list is based on vanilla so the bug will persist if you load this mod after the USKP (which you should since the USKP fixes to the leveled lists would be in effect and you wouldn't get any low level X117 missile using bandits at all).  There's even a bigger mis-match that USKP fixes for tier-two level, 2H melee bandits (Bandit Outlaws). Vanilla Skyrim has only level 1 bandits in that list; USKP makes them, correctly, level 2.

Perhaps, somehow, in the process of the game engine first loading the vanilla lists, then overwriting them with the USKP fixes and then overwriting them again with X117 Bandit and Forsworn lists (which, in addition to adding the X117 bandits also reinstates the original bugs) it's getting confused and is getting the outfits for some male bandits from the list of x117 outfits.

I know that there are bugs in the way the game handles these lists. In fact, these bugs have caused me to abandon the rewrite which was centered on not hard coding the bandit selection and doing it dynamically instead. I read through a long forum conversation in which the creator of the Jaysus Swords was trying to do this exact thing with the swords. He ended up giving up since every time you try to do this it causes a CTD. My experiments have not had any more success than his did.

So, in the next release, I'll make sure to carry the USKP fixes forward.  I don't know if this will correct the problem but at least it won't undo the Unofficial Patch's intentions.

I have not seen the floating head bandit and I use USKP but I also use Wrye Bash to merge level lists. You could look up the way it works but the short version is Wrye Bash will check a mods level list vs the same lists from it's masters and logs the changes than builds a new list that includes all changes from all mods.

I'm familiar with Wrye Bash and its function in this respect is invaluable (and very possibly why you haven't seen this anomoly). However, I was hoping to be able to dynamically populate the leveled lists at game load in order to offer the player a choice of either gender or both. Doing this seems to cause such an inconsistancy in the game engine however that it causes CTDs when reloading saves. So for future releases, I may need to include specially edited ESP files to allow this choice.

For now, for those CK savvy who are trying to edit the ESP to limit things to one gender, do not delete the Actor records for the undesired group. Instead, look at the LeveledCharacter lists that have names beginning with  SubCharBandit*. Remove those you don't want from these lists.

I haven't installed this yet as I've decided to wait on the rewrite but I just wanted to drop a note saying it looks cool and I think it will make the game more immersive and interesting.

So, I decided to try out the unofficial patches and it seems like that stopped bandit kids from spawning. All adults instead. Unchecked the patches and the kids spawned as usual. Anyone else have this issue?
