Bandit and Forsworn NPCs for YII-TECHNIQUES-LABORS *Children of the Sky*
tsuki no mori and lostdaywalker
Version 1.0 beta 2 release 2
4 February, 2013

Note on 4 Febrary, 2013: This is NOT the rumored rewrite. It is a fix to the existing mod with the following updates:

  • Fixes the pink hair bug for bandit girls
  • Removes dependance on YChildren of the Sky.esm (but contains a backwards compatible file as well)
  • It does NOT remove the dependance on Apachii Hair

The instructions below are updated for the new release but here's a tl;dr summary.

  • Install the new mod and switch back to YChildren of the Sky.esp
  • If you want to keep using the ESM version, there's an "ESMVersion" folder with the file to use in it

[spoiler=Older notes:]
Note on 4 December, 2012: Jiitek just released R2 of his Children of the Sky mode. Clearly this mod will not be compatible. Look for an update in the next few days.

Note on 6 December, 2012: It appears that this mod is working with CotS R2 (at least for me) simply by converting YChildren of The Sky.esp to be an ESM file. Conversions for both the standard and prepatched sliders versions here: http://www.mediafire.com/?1r0vqcowv16wqd5

This is a Work in Progress

This will add X117 race NPCs to the existing Bandit, Forsworn and Hunter spawns. The new NPCs are added to existing leveled lists so it should not increase the number of NPCs in any given group.

All of the armors from lostdaywalker's "x117 FightersPack" are included with this mod and are marked as playable so you do not need both mods installed.

Both male and female Bandits and Hunters are added although it is twice as likely for a magic using X117 NPC to be female. There are no specially designed armors for the male NPCs, they wear the same armor as the adult males and, in some cases, this causes clipping issues and other anomolies especially when the armor is of the "bare chested" variety. For this reason, only female foresworn X117 NPCs have been added since pretty much all of the adult male forsworn armor is bare chested. If the X117 males are too distracting, they may be removed from the final release.

All NPCs level with the player but armor at higher levels may be a bit weak right now. This will be addressed.

Update History:

14 October, 2012 - Version 1.00 beta 1
Initial Release, X117 Bandits and Forsworn

5 November, 2012 - Version 1.00 beta 2
      Added X117 Hunters

4 February, 2013 - Version 1.00 beta 2 release 2
Rebuilt head and face meshes to fix the pink haired bandit girls
Option to use YChildren of the Sky.esp or YChildren Of the Sky.esm

Required:
YII-TECHNIQUES-LABORS *Children of the Sky* -R1- UPD-25.6
*** This version uses YChildren of the Sky.esp as a master file (not the ESM version). YChildren of the SKY.esp MUST appear in the load order before X117 Bandites and Foresworn.esp.
Apachii Hair is still required in this interim release

If you have a character built using YChildren of the Sky.esm, to prevent you all manner of problems trying to change gears, a version that uses YChildren of the Sky.esm is included in the ESMVersion subdirectory. Use it if you want to continue using that version of YChildren of the Sky.

[spoiler=Regarding switching from ESM to ESP]Unless you're starting a new character or have some other compelling reason to switch back to the ESP version, I would recommend staying with the ESM version until you do.

If you switch from ESM to ESP (or vice versa) you will get the transparent head effect. To correct this, you need to change your character's race to something else and then back to Sky Child. If you use console commands to switch to OrarezeRacex117Vampire and back to OrarezeRacex117 this seems to preserve both your appearance and your skills levels but it only lasts until you quite SkyRim. When you restart, you have to do it again. I did this for a long time until I got tired of doing it. A batch file for doing this would be:

player.setrace OraezeRaceX117Vampire
player.setrace OraezeRaceX117

If you switch to a different race entirely and then back. If you're careful, you can preserve your appearance but you will have all your skill levels reset. So, before you do this, create a text file that will restore your skills:

player.setav smithing 94
player.setav heavyarmor 77
player.setav block 26
player.setav twohanded 79
player.setav onehanded 33
player.setav marksman 64
player.setav lightarmor 24
player.setav sneak 55
player.setav lockpicking 52
player.setav pickpocket 16
player.setav speechcraft 80
player.setav alchemy 71
player.setav illusion 16
player.setav conjuration 20
player.setav destruction 32
player.setav restoration 31
player.setav alteration 25
player.setav enchanting 77

with the numbers replaced by your current stats of course.

I would strongly suggest using the enhanced Race Menu mod that's on the Nexus. It lets you change to a different race without having to scroll through other races. I had success switching to Nord (I think, possibly Young Nord) and back and my character's appearance was preserved.

Oh, one more thing to mention, bringing up the Race Menu is problematic for some people, especially because it has to load Apachii hair so it can crash or freeze. It helps to go to an interior cell that doesn't have much in it, unequip everything you can and be in third person perspective. I can usually get the Race Menu to show reliably this way.

Installation:
Once the pre-requisite mods are installed, simply copy "x117 Bandits and Forsworn.esp" and the meshes and Textures directories into your Skyrim\data directory and enable the esp file. There shouldn't be any file conflicts unless you have the "x117 FighersPack" already installed (in which case they are the exact same files).

Feedback requested
Some things that might be encountered that should be reported:

  • NPCs showing up as the wrong race (i.e., a Nord body but otherwise acting/speaking like a child)
  • A female NPC wearing adult armor
  • X117 NPCs consistently over or under spawning at a given level. Not all bandit/forsworn groups will have X117 members and some will have more than average, this is to be expected, but we're looking for conspicuous balance issues.
  • Male X117 forsworn. This shouldn't happen.
  • Any occurrences of the ugly head/body texture mismatch showing up.
  • Don't bother mentioning male X117 Bandit armor issues. These are known.

Excuse my bad English, it's really very funny.

- Eh .. I would have a beer, and then all the honey, honey ...

- Fu****g mother! You do not even sixteen!

- Yeah, like beer, so do not sixteen, but as a Dragonborn with an ax to go, so it's all right! There is no justice in the life of ...

- By the way, check the trap, something I'm afraid. And silent sentinel ...

- FUS RO DAH! ]:>

The author - my great gratitude.

And yes, that Google translator =) I do not know English

um .. douitashimashte. :)

great work

i changed some time back some of the female forsworns to x117 but i got this dark head bug

seems you both are smarter then me

Ctrl-F4 is your friend. Do this when the NPCs are selected in the Object window and make sure the generated output files in these directories are visible at runtime:

[steam install]\common\skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\facegendata\facegeom\[your esp file name].esp

[steam install]\common\skyrim\Data\textures\Actors\Character\facegendata\facetint\[your esp fine name].esp

I've been using this since it was released, with no problems. IT gets a bit weird if you're using better vampires to raise the dead bandits, they wind up growing to adult size, but that's literally the only problem I've had with it other than the male bandit armour one.

Any plans to add in more armours for them, or perhaps to bring in mages too, maybe even ...whatever the hell the other factions are called? :P

I just added encountered hunters but that's harder to test. That'll be posted in a day or so. I'll look into expanding the armor selection but I don't want to get too non-lore. Not sure what you mean regarding mages -- there are magic using Ashen bandits and forsworn at all levels (I've seen them). :)

By Mages, I mean the necromancers, novice fire mages, conjurers and other spellslingers, the guys wandering around in robes rather than the guys hanging out with the bandits :P

Ah! I'll see what I can do.

Lostdaywalker's mage robes would be good for the mages. Altough that's flatchested.

Could ask if he can release a mage pack like he has done with the fighters pack.

I would ask, but most of my posts here have been requests already. Seems wrong to ask even more. :D

Nope. Just similar ideas. I just looked at his bandit mod and he just creates one set of bandit children and adds them to all of the leveled lists which means that the kids don't scale with the adults and the player. I'm assuming that the forsworn are done in a similar fashion.

So this is a set of level 1 vanilla kids that don't scale with the player and they wear ill-fitting adult armor.

This reminds me, I'll package up an update tonight that adds x117 hunters. Vampire kids are next.

New version that includes male and female X117 spawning Hunters. I've updated the OP accordingly.

The next release will change the name of the mod (and this thread) to "X117 NPCs for YII-TECHNIQUES-LABORS *Children of the Sky*"

Hey! Thanks for the update. I like the mod alot.

Unfortunately, the new version causes a CTD right after the Bethesda logo. For me, anyway. The old version was working fine 10 minutes prior. Is there another requirement for the new version?

Somehow the file "CotS Presets.esm" (not a released file, just one I've been using to facilitate some things) got into the required master files list. I didn't notice because an ESM doesn't have to be activated, it just has to be there -- and, for me, it is. When I renamed that file, I crashed right after the Beth logo as well.

Try this: http://www.mediafire.com/?tt416trzj3ekj9w I've removed the dependancy and it works correctly with that ESM file absent. If it works for you, I'll repackage the main archive.

That worked! At least as far as loading the game. If I see any crazy hunters I'll let ya know.

Thanks for fixing it!

Thanks for the quick bug report AND the quick feedback on the fix! The links for both the full mod and the updated ESP in the OP are restored and pointed at the fixed files now.

I've noticed a weird thing since the hunter update I wanted to mention.

I've seen some male and female adult Forsworn and Bandits naked and headless floating around in the T pose (sort of like Da Vinci's Virtruvian Man). If I disable and enable them, they come back looking normal and armored and walking normally.

I will admit I'm having some problems with FNIS, but I only see this happening with forsworn and bandits. Haven't really seen enough hunters yet to say if its happening or not with them, but I have seen hunter kids! Never see this happening to anyone in towns, just the bandits and forsworn.

So if nobody else has a problem like this totally ignore me, might just be my wacky FNIS stuff.

I'll keep an eye out for something like this. I did see a headless, naked Khajiit bandit a while back but the date on my screenshot of that is over a month ago and it has never happened again. What level is your character? Theoretically, this mod shouldn't mess with the existing NPCs but ...

I just noticed tonight that at about player level 40 I accidentally have the adult and X117 Forsworn melee fighters wearing each other's clothes. That'll be fixed in the next update.

All chars under 20 or so. I swear, I get to level 20ish and find some mod scripting issue or something has totally fubar'd my character and all recent saves (not yours though :D). Fort Sunguard was where I really noticed it and a good 1/4 of the folks there were naked and headless. Thought it might have been a locational thing until it started popping up in other camps and redoubts etc.

I am in the process of completely removing FNIS and all dependent mods so if I see it again after that I'll let ya know.

I was at level 25 when I saw the headless Khajiit in Folgunthur. I looked at the NPC forms for the 20-somethings and found nothing suspicious. But, since the bandits and the forsworn are two separate sets of NPC records (they share no common artifacts in my mod) I got to wondering about the odds of me screwing them up both in the same way.

I've been having tons of other graphic glitches since the 1.8 update. Rocks and other static clutter floating in the air, corpses vanishing or mysteriously appearing, lots of standing on the saddle while riding. Some of this could be FNIS related, I'm at 3.1.1 still.

While you at it

Thieves' Guild "you often start young or someone has to fit threw the window"

Bards College "Talent noticed early"

College of Winterhold "Animated your stuffed animal at the age of 2"

Dark Brotherhood "High fatality rate of training and testing requires an early start"

Bards College "Talent noticed early"

College of Winterhold "Animated your stuffed animal at the age of 2"

Dark Brotherhood "High fatality rate of training and testing requires an early start"

This really, in most cases, gets more into custom NPC creation than random spawning adversaries. Spawning DB assassins that attack you and hostile mages in the wild are in the plan.

I believe that the Ashen Followers mod adds some custom Ashen characters to the Thievs' Guild and the Collage of Winterhold. You might want to look at that mod.
