CTD from Beginning in SSE...

Hi,

 

You already have gotten similar question about Skyrim, now I ask about the same questions about Skyrim Special Edition.

 

I installed a fresh one of SSE.

I made cleaning for Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm, HearthFires.esm, and Dragonborn.esm with SSEEdit 3.2.1. I checked by LOOT. Dawnguard.esm needed a second one cleaning, I don't know why.

I installed the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch 4.1.3b. Then, I check again with LOOT to correct the load order, and to see if there is an any error. So, there was none.

I use NMM. Then I tried to play the game. I got a CTD after the Bethesda Logo.

 

I installed Creation Kit for SSE via Bethesda Launcher. I got error about "scripts.zip". I extracted them. It didn't work. And Creation Kit stopped and crashed. I reinstalled and used repair option, it didn't work either.

 

I installed FNIS, SKSE, SexLab, Animations, XPMSE, and any required files/mods, nothing worked.

 

Please, do not ask for a papyrus.log, because it gets almost a blank page.

 

I tried "Verify Integrity of Game Files" too. It wasn't helpful. If it's about changing some ".ini" files' settings, I don't know how. If I need some fixing tools, i don't which of them are necessary.

 

I have a regular Skyrim in my "C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim" folder, and my Special Edition is in "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition" folder.

 

I have "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740". My Settings are: Resolutions: 1920x1080, Anti-aliasing: FXAA (Low). HDMI connection.

 

I use SKSE 2.00.07.

I installed the last versions of all the mods.

 

With the Skyrim, I have no problem. But, with this new one, I have huge problem.

 

Finally, I need your help...

 

If you can help me anyway, I'll really appreciate.

Can it be related to NVidia's software and its drivers? There is a problem about connection its website also. I can't check/download anything via GeForce Experience.

I have no idea which one is necessary, which one is not...

 

I'm using an external Audio Driver, connected via USB port. So, I don't use any other Audio.

I'm using Win 7 Pro x64.  I couldn't run the default files without any SSEEdit modifications also.

When I installed SSE a year ago, it was running good without problem. But now, it doesn't work at all. I try to find the problem during three days. I couldn't find any clue.

I'll try to check the PC with "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair". I restored my PC too.

Maybe, I can download again all files of SSE again after a system restore. But, downloading more than 10 GB takes more than 10 hours for me. Is there a way to back up the necessary files?

Check your SKSE logs

 

After uninstalling all other mods, I just have the default files. I don't have SKSE and its related files anymore.

Backup your steam library folder. After reinstalling windows and steam just do a add library in steam, after restoring the game library folder. Last time my laptop broke down, had to reinstall the OS, later just added the game library in D drive.

 

If only one game is your target, then just backup the game folder before adding any mods. that way you can just delete the game folder and unzip the untouched files so to have the default game back.

I found in "Properties=>Local Files=>Backup Game Files..." option.

 

I set it for the DVD size partition. It should take less than 15 minutes. I don't know, if it'll work.

 

I have two restore points. One of them is old without SSE. The other one is newer with SSE. It will take hours.

I can't give you a response until tomorrow.

Two days after, Hi again...

 

I downloaded SSE again. I tried to run the game. CTD. I cleaded the default .esm files by SSEEdit, then I tried again CTD. I just installed the "Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch 4.1.3b".

I checked if the Windows System's HD (C:) has any problem. There was. I corrected it. I restored the system. I checked if there was any system files error.

I checked for malwares and viruses, etc...

 

It looks Skyrim works with lots of mods and SKSE, however SSE doesn't.

 

I tried to install two different "LOOT" and "NMM". "Loot 1 & NMM 1"assigned for Skyrim, and the others are for the SSE. I don't know that could cause any problem.

 

Another option that I can try is to install a new system in my G: drive that I've installed the SSE.

So, when I want to play/work on Skyrim, I use my system in C drive, when I want to play/work SSE, I use my system in G drive.

 

What do you think?

A fresh install of SSE not working means, its not the fault of your game. Its something with your hardware/software probably. how much VRAM you got?

 

On second thought, which antivirus do you use? Disable any antivirus / anti-malware tools and see if you can get SSE up and running.

 

Do you have OneDrive installed? Switch profiles to a non-sync one to play Skyrim SE or at best uninstall it. I play on a laptop, but the first thing what i did after buying it was Un-Installed OneDrive. I hate my files to be synced, and not finding them when i don't have internet.

I don't have OneDrive.

I mostly use Avast Free Antivirus. Now, I try "Microsoft Security Essentials". I used "Avira Free Antivirus" for a while.

Now i am really perplexed. You should be definitely able to run vanilla Skyrim SE. Did anything change in your rig from the last time you ran Skyrim SE?

I don't think so. Skyrim SE was working from time to time. Then, it was getting worse. Then, it's totally gone.

I thought about some software/hardware problems also. I thought some third party programs could cause such a problem. But, why old Skyrim works normally? Should not it crash too?

 

I don't want to format my C HD and reinstall all programs that I need again, because I have some pro-audio programs with its plug-ins that their re-registrations and installing take almost two days. I have back-up of all my works of Skyrim and mods. But, as you know, re-installing them takes more than a day.

 

Now, I created a new system in a different HD. I installed Steam application. It wanted to install SSE. It forces me to install in  "C:\Program Files (x86)\". I want to use "C:\Steam\" folder. But, it doesn't let me do it. It let me to select the other HDs that I don't want to use.

 

This new system changed my drivers' letter numbers. For example, I installed Win7 in "G:" , however it's "C:" now in this new system.

 

Another question:

Do I have to install Bethesda Launcher?

I don't have Win 10.

 

I just installed a fresh Win7. I updated Win7.

When I click on SSE icon. I see Bethesda icon, then little box about connection to Steam, then CTD.

 

When I install Steam in the first place, I installed in C:\Steam folder, then I imported my SSE files into it. So, I had not to download again whole of the game.

If the problem is not about my software/hardware, just about I don't use Win 10, it's a big deal. It should have a patch for Win 7 users.

Maybe, some new Windows updates are not compatible with SSE. I don't know. I'm just guessing...

Fix Skyrim Special Edition Won't Start! / Black Screen - WORKS 100%!

Skyrim: Special Edition & Fallout 4 (Startup Crash) Fix!

 

In one of the YouTube video, it says create "block the connection" in inbound & outbound rules of the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security for "SkyrimSE.exe" and "SkyrimSELauncher.exe" both.

In another one, it says "for both those .exe files make changes in their Properties=>Compatibility=>Compatibility Mode=>

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for: and Select "Windows 7"

In "Privilege Level",  select "Run as Administrator" for both of them.

 

Another thing they suggest is uninstalling "vc_redist.x64.exe" file that is in the "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015\" folder. Then, try to play. If it doesn't work, install that file again. It didn't work for me.

 

Finally, I can say some compatibility settings and firewall adjustments made it work.

I'm still not sure if this program blocking in firewall is effective or necessary.

 

I set my NMM and SSEEdit to run as Administrator also. I will set FNIS as same, however I'm not sure about that.

 

Next, I'll install SKSE64, XPMSSE, SexLab Framework, other mods, etc... Then, I'll check if it works smoothly.

Right now, I opened the my old-original system to test SSE. I made same "Run as Administrator & Compatibility mode: Windows 7" and Windows Firewall Inbound & Outbound Rules Settings for "SkyrimSE.exe" and "SkyrimSELauncher.exe".

 

I tried to disable each of them one by one. If I disable compatibility settings, the game runs. If I disable Firewall Settings, the game has CTD.

 

Do you have any idea why this Firewall blocking settings make the game run?

 

In this system, I use Avast. Maybe, I need make some additional settings. Do you have any suggestions about Steam settings?

I run the game from my D drive. So I don't have to run NMM, FNIS in admin.

 

Also, I have a mod which blocks Creation Club News. Maybe that's why I didn't get bugged by the Crash on Startup bug.

 

My Internet Connection is up all the time and I have not even touched Compatibility Settings or Inbound and Outbound Connections in Windows Firewall.

 

Using an Avast subscription which has its own Firewall rules for Bethesda.net

That's the mod which blocks Creation Club News in the Start Menu of Skyrim SE.
