Well if you onlyt want the mods the NV wins for newest stuff, there's still a lot for F)3 though, but you will find FO3 has a more interesting story to play than NV, NV does have more/better sex mods.

If you're looking for story and gameplay mods' date=' go F3. If you're looking for violence and sex, go NV.

You made it sound so tempting that I finally cracked and am now downloading NV. FO:3 has been a great modding ground 'though I must admit I found the main story a bit cringe-making and ditched the MQ after running it once.

(Actually, the Oblivion MQ is (imo) naff too and the less said about Skyrim's "story telling" the better. On the whole I think Beth are better at creating the theatre than writing the plays.)

Nah, the real reason for me going for NV is I'm very lazy and slow-working and there seems to be much more going on in NV.

Are there any newbie elephant traps to avoid? I'm downloading it from the Childcatcher sorry, Steeeam! so I suppose there are all sorts of extra gotchas I've got to look out for?

What do you mean by Elephant catchers? Bad mods?

More along the lines of stuff like "don't install to x directory if you're using windows 7" or "you must have patch xyz if you bought this off steam" sort of thing, stuff that "everybody knows" so nobody bothers to post anymore.

('Though advice along the lines of "don't use mod xyz with mod pqr cause they crash horribly" is always welcome.)

As install goes, if you're running Vista or 7, don't install to program files. There's a file management security thing that screws with modding. What I personally did was put a folder called "gaming" on my desktop and installed steam and all my modding programs (FOMM, WryeBash/Flash, etc.) there. For mod managers, don't use NMM. Its buggy and if you do it wrong it won't let FOMM run. FOMM has better features for mod management anyway. Wrye is good if you can figure it out too, but for the best balance of features and usability stick to FOMM.

As far as mods go, just do your research. Skim the comments, keep an eye out for negative reports. And if you need any help, this general forum or the Sexout Tech Support forum are always good places to ask.

I'm guessing Steam takes care of it automaticly, but if it doesn't, make sure you get a latest patch. A lot of mod-added content simply won't show up otherwise.

To the OP, I'd say get both, but don't do anything with Fallout 3. Instead, download and install Tale of Two Wastelands, and enjoy Fallout 3's awesome urban decay vibe with NV's mechanics.

After a few days play. Get both. NV is not quite as good (IMO) in almost all aspects as FO:3' date=' exceptions being it's less claustrophobic and they try to use all that clutter for something. Feels more like a good DLC to FO:3 than a new game.

FO:3 bothered by impassible terrain? At least it looked impassible. in NV lazy bastards don't bother, you just stop. NV is much smaller than FO:3 (Which was even smaller than Oblivion, but felt more in scale).

FO:3 may have a storyline that makes for an occasional wince - so far the stories in NV aren't so bad - but try this for moral manipulation. At one stage (not a plot feature so not a spoiler) you have no choice but to refuse to help a crucified man on a cross "because he was a drug dealer". No kidding. I'd like to meet the

{offensive language warning ;)}

basement-dwelling little shit

that wrote that in. Preferably in a dark and discrete location

I suspect that those responsible for the limitations and immaturity are now working on Skyrim given those particular weaknesses are strong in that game too.

As regards sex and violence. Fight-wise FO:3 is more fun by far, and rewards ingenuity. NV is all easy kill or easy meat. Much less room for skill involved. Meet an enemy you can't kill head on? Go away and come back with a bigger gun. In FO:3 there was often a feature in the scene you could use to outwit bigger enemies, or a way round. In NV you get channelled far more.

Sexout is OK. Stable and easy to instal. Variety as Prideslayer et al have pillaged every animation they could lay their grubby mitts on. Mods at the moment are largely aimed at those who like to imagine that they are corpulent submissive women being raped. Not exactly my cup of tea. :D However, within the limitations enforced by the gatekeepers (Prideslayer et al) the option to write your own fantasy is there. In FO:3 you really only have Sexus which is notoriously unstable.

Footnote:

Perhaps suprisingly to some here it is still being developed and discussed on Japanese forums, and various patches for ghoul and supermutant behaviour have been released this summer as well as beta testing for new features (e.g. seduction and alcohol/drug use therein). However, the developers are a bit cagy about some prominent voices in this neck of the woods and this has made them slightly reluctant to share. Thankfully that's not that common an attitude, but quite understandable, which is a pity as I don't think Prideslayer etc have any original animators on their side yet.

Next month I think I'm going to give ToTW a shot.

***NOTE***

If you do get NV off Steam, which I did, be aware that after a few hours play the game may become reluctant to load saves and go into an endless loop of entry screens. This problem has been around since inception it looks like and has seemingly never been resolved. The workaround is to load an early (earlier) save, then when it's actually loaded hit [ESC'] and load the latest save. It really has saved, but for some reason the Steam version ( in my case Ultimate) loses track of it. I find that roughly one in three saves actually works as god intended atm. If anyone knows how to fix this properly I would be happy, (their google-fu is obviously higher than mine).
