Nifskope texture path question.

Hi guys,

Thought I would give Skyrim another playthrough after doing some of my own modding but I'm spending much more time trying to learn it and get it all working than I will playing so....help....

I didn't have this issue on my old computer but regardless which version of Nifskope I'm trying, I'm having a annoying and time consuming issue with textures.

After creating meshes with 3ds Max I'm setting the textures inside Nifskope but in most but not all cases in BSShaderTextureset my texture paths will be textures\armor\XXwhatever. The problem with that is I either have no textures showing at all or they are too dark. If the texture path is c:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\data\textures\armor\XXwhatever the textures are correct in Nifskope and in game.

Is there anyway to set the texture path to always be c:\steam...bla...bla...bla and not just textures\armor...? Manually entering all that is, yeah, taking way too long and leaving too much room for self inflicted milk dunkiness.  Probably from my own ineptitude 3ds Max makes me manually reset textures after every edit I make of a mesh to fix whatever clipping or anything once in game and that is getting old.

Probably you have a conflicting DDS somewhere, maybe in a BSA.

A quick solution is to create a sub-directory inside texures/armors/newdirectory/

And use it for your NIFs.

Hope this helps.

The path is always relative to the data, so:

Textures\Armor\ ... \something.dds.

The first texture is the diffuse map, the second the normalmap etc ..

If the texture is not displayed in nifskope, it can have several reasons:
1. Texture is in a BSA, not as a loose file. Then it is ONLY not displayed in Nifskope - but in the CK and in the game yet
2. Missing or broken UV of the mesh
For check: In Nifskope there is a minimal UV editor - right click on mesh -> Texture -> Edit UV.
(here the UV can also be exported)
3. Incorrect settings in BSShadertextureSet (UV settings, Alpha)

If the textures are too dark:
1. No Vertexcolors or/and no Normals.

2. Reverse Normals or/and Faces in mesh
3. Wrong setting in BSShaderTextureSet

As mentioned above:

Copy a BSShaderTextureSet from another nif.
But notice that it is a similar nif.

Otherwise, you have a leather armor with hairtint, chrome or something similar curious. ;)
