It really sucks what happened to the man you mentioned. And it's really sad that something like that happend. But how many false allegations turn out like that? How many false allegation where the acused is actually convicted and goes to jail? Now compare it to the percentage of people who get falsly accused of other crimes like thieft and murder and tell me it diffres that much. False acusations is not exclusive to sexual assult. And yes, if I were in the shoes of someone who got falsly accused i'd think diffrent. But i'm not. So, from a logical point of view there's a system that helps victims come out but also a vey small percentage are falsly accused. Punishing ALL false accusers is not feasable because sometimes the crime happens but there's no physical proof. If we punished every victim who can't prove theirs story no one would have justice. I'd take that untill someone comes up with a better system.

I truly think that the percentage of acual rapists and sexual offenders who get away with it is much much more than the falsly accused. Maybe even more than people who get convicted. That's a huge gape.

We live in a society where you have to stay 1000 feet away from a school if you get caught urinating in an alley outside a bar and your picture gets shown to the public alongside rapists and pedophiles.  The real-real issue is the lack of proportionality in punishments. 

 

What you describe can be solved in civil trials against over-zealous DAs and municipalities which tend to give the recipient "fuck you money".

If it happened to anyone clean and innocent i would be fucking pissed as always, but since it happens to someone like Takei - no fucks given.

 

We understand your line of "thought", it's just that most of us believe that justice should be blind. The evidence should be weighed without assuming someone is guilty because of things like race, gender, sexual preferences, income, and political opinions. If they apply to the case the prosecutor must prove it in court.

 

I'm not going to assume someone is guilty or hope/celebrate bad things happening to them just because I don't like them, or because I don't agree with them.

 

That is literally how things like the holocaust happen.

The false accusations are another real problem. I want to solve both, not ignore the lives that are destroyed by either group.

 

We already have things like the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline to solve this. You can even report it completely anonymously if you want. Help is out there. People just need to be educated.

 

Mod justice is a terrible thing, and I will never sing its praises.

How do you prove the accusation was false?  Now, sure, in some cases it'd be clear, but you could easily end up further persuading victims it's not worth reporting the crime, and there's enough of that already.

Normally estimated at at least about an order of magnitude difference, yeah.  The exact numbers varies, but the conviction rate (and false accusation rate) is tiny compared to the rates of sexual assaults everywhere in the Western world.

As many of you know, this has been a very difficult period for myself and my husband Brad as we have dealt with the impact of these accusations, but we are happy to see that this nightmare is finally drawing to a close.
As I stated before, I do not remember Mr. Brunton or any of the events he described from forty years ago, but I do understand that this was part of a very important national conversation that we as a society must have, painful as it might be.
It is in that spirit that I want folks to know, despite what he has put us through, I do not bear Mr. Brunton any ill will, and I wish him peace.
Brad and I are especially grateful for the many fans who stood by me throughout this ordeal.
Your support kept us going, and we are so immensely thankful for you.
