Illustrating The Spellbook

I'm finally looking at getting a release out the door for this Slaver's Spellbook project I've been talking about. It's a big one; the number of spells has tripled since last time, and if I've been a bit slow to release, it's been because I've been having too much fun testing.

Annnyway... One thing I'd like to do is make the eponymous spellbook into a big thing in the mod. It's going to teach you spells, it's going to start and restart quests, and I thought it would be nice to make the book into the primary documentation for the spells. Have a section for each School and a few words from the author, Korneum The Objectionable about each spell in turn.

So that started me thinking (as so often happens) about illustrations. Like maybe one per section. So I had a look at Gimp filters and ... well 2.10 has come on a long way. Take a look at this:

I didn't even have to do that much to it in this case. This is the original:

A few more like that should do nicely.

One I probably won't be using is this one:

I love the way it came out, but that tat is a bit too modern for the book's supposed First Era origins. Oh well, that's what blog entries are for :)
