Harsh Realities - Chapter 6 - The Giant, the Sorceress, and The Seal

If you missed chapter 5 : http://www.loverslab.com/blog/182/entry-760-chapter-5-full-circle/

Alania spent the day pouring though volumes of texts. Urag finally came up and asked her what she was looking for and she described the symbol from her dream.

"That sounds a bit familar." He came back with an old book and placed it on the table. The title read "Mysteries of the Primal Goddesses." Urag said, "This book is purely fictional. It is a fanciful story about a pantheon of goddess giving their lives to stop a horrible evil."

096.jpg

She read through several volumes about ancient seals. Most referenced the planes of Oblivion but a few referenced an old myth about a seal that connected to an island somewhere in Nirn or possibly some other plane. The descriptions seemed the same and even mentioned a great evil that once tried to terrorize the land.

Alania read the book cover to cover and took it to the archmage. She asked him about the seal and the evil.

098.jpg

He laughed and said, "This book is a good read but that's all it is. Howver, to humor you, the seal sounds like one that is north of solitude, by the coast. It's just a carved piece of rock. As for the great evil, a few have speculated that the book could be referring to Jyggalag or Alduin. It's all speculation of course.

099.jpg

He handed the book back to her and shooed her out of his quarters. She stood outside his door pondering a thought. "If the seal is real, then maybe this book and my dreams are real too."

100.jpg

"I have to know," she thought. "But they won't like me leaving suddenly to investigate it." Her mind shifted to J'zargo. "If he is moving skooma in and out of the college, he must have a secret way out."

101.jpg

She asked him and he said that he did have one. It was down through the midden. J'zargo gave her a warning, "Before you leave, this one hears things. Someone here has told about your search for the seal days ago. The High Queen is coming. This one thinks she wants the magic of the seal for herself. I would hurry if I were you. She may be pretty, but she is known for her temper."

102.jpg

Even with the ominous warning it took her hours to get supplies ready and secretly work her way into the midden. She had no sooner closed the trap door when she heard the sound of soldiers and a woman, presumably the Queen. "Where is she? The one looking for the seal! Guards! Spread out!"

103.jpg

When they asked to take Alania, the archmage refused at first. The High Queen threatened to burn the college to it's foundation stones and he eventually agreed to hand her over. Alania wasted no time in escaping.

As she stood at the exit far below, she could hear magic being loosed above at the college. Whatever was going on, it sounded as if every mage was hurling spells.

104.jpg

She hiked all the way to Dawnstar, then took a boat to the Solitude lighthouse. She didn't want to take the roads for fear of running into the High Queen or her guards, so she went by way of the wilderness, traversing dangerous landscape whenever she had to.

105.jpg

From there, she followed her crude directions and found the seal.

It looked like a old carved piece of rock. She leaned down and touched it but it looked dormant. She examined it for hours until the sun started to come up.

106.jpg

As soon as the first rays of light hit the seal, magic flared to life around her and she felt herself being sucked in.

107.jpg

She awoke on top of a large seal. It almost looked like the same seal. All around her was a tropical jungle. It was a stark contrast to the frozen land of Skyrim.

108.jpg

A group of warrior women ran up and surrounded her. She was still light headed from the teleportation or whatever it was the seal had done. One of them, presumably the leader, held up a pendant. It glowed with a blue radiance when she held it toward Alania.

109.jpg

All the women bowed down and the one with the pendant declared, "The Sun Princess has returned! All hail the goddess!"

The women all spoke in unison, "Praise be to the Goddess."

110.jpg

Alania was taken aback. "I think you have the wrong person, I'm not a princess or a goddess."

111.jpg

"I am High Priestess of the Sun, keeper of the pendant. It shows the future goddess and it never lies. Come with me and I will take you to the temple. It appears as though you have forgotten your past. Come, we will show you." Together they walked to a small temple. On the way there, Alania started remembering the roads, where they went, and where they entered the temple.

112.jpg

She walked into the temple and the memories of home flooded her mind. She remember this place from when she was very small. She had lived here with her real mother and father.

"How could I have forgotten all of this?" she said aloud.

113.jpg

The priestess came forward, "You were very young when your mother took you from here. It was to keep you safe, but you should have returned long ago.

114.jpg

Alania described what happened to her, the death of her supposed parents, being raised by giants, her recent time at the college, and her dreams.

"It seems someone killed you father shortly after you're arrival. It was probably so traumatic that you blocked it out. It is a shame he did not survive to help you return but you are here now."

115.jpg

"In my dream, my real name is Tal'lania. That is my actual name?"

"Yes. Come, we will show you some things that will help you remember as well as something your mother left that will give you much that you need to know."

Alania made the decision to begin using her real name, Tal'lania.

116.jpg

The High Priestess took Tal'lania to a secret room in in the temple. This place was obviously intended for someone of high position. There were several books all around. The High priestess handed Tal'lania a strange cube. It looked like the lexicons she had read about at the college. When she held the cube, the runes lit up and her mind was flooded with images and thougths. She could hear her mother's warnings and advice, she could see maps of the land, she learned the coucil of those that came before, and she learned of power sleeping deep inside herself . The sudden rush of knowledge gave her quite the headache.

117.jpg

The lights of the cube stopped shining and the priestess said, "Now that you have the knowledge, it is time to learn how to use it." She handed the Tal'lania her royal clothing. She put on the ornate robes. She could tell they were strongly enchanted, however she was not used to wearing such finery.

118.jpg

"Now you must embark on a journey of self discovery. Learn what the evil was that caused the other goddesses to give up their power to keep us all safe. Find yourself and awaken your full power. Once you have done this, you may return and take your place as our goddess queen. But for now, you should take a few days to relax. You have been through a great ordeal to get here.

Tal'lania decided to take her up on that. A few days of relaxtion were exactly what she needed right now.

119.jpg

"I wonder what my full power is?" She pondered that and many other things as she sat in the pool reflecting on everything that led her here.
