Chapter 5 - Full Circle

Alania returned to camp. Her heart sank as she approahed. Everyone in the camp was dead.

 

 

She screamed out in rage and pain, "Noooooo!" She ran up to her mom and shook her. "Mom please wake up!" She yelled in the giant tongue as well but the giantess didn't budge.

 

 

Alania fell down on top of her mom and wimpered, "Why do I keep losing family.."

 

 

She looked around for a sign of who or what did this and then she remembered an old spell the giants had taught her.

 

 

She walked up to a mammoth and invoked the spell. It was as if she was seeing through the eyes of the mammoth. There had been what looked like a man and a woman attacking the giants.

 

 

The woman wore regal looking clothing and the man was dressed like a warrior. After the battle, the two walked away.

 

 

As the vision ended, Alania dropped to her knees, trembling with sadness and rage, her mind racing around what to do now.

 

 

****An hour later ****

She arrived back at the college and met with Toldfir. He gave her his condolences and offered her a place to stay for the night.

 

 

The next morning, she met with the archmage. He offered her a room at the college as long as she helped document what she knew of the giant's culture and language.

 

 

It only took a few days for the stone walls to get to Alania. She felt confined and caged. She had never been in a building for so long at a time. She was also still getting used to wearing the college robes.

 

 

"I'll just go into town for a bit," she said to herself.

"J'zargo thinks he has what you need," came a voice from the corner.

 

 

Alania jumped, "How long have you been there!?"

"Since before you noticed," J'zargo said.

"I see ... wait! That didn't answer the question."

 

 

"J'zargo thinks it did, but this one also thinks you should try this." J'zargo tossed a bottle onto the bed.

 

 

"What is this?"

"It is called skooma. Great secret of college. You can't tell anyone. It will make you troubles melt away."

 

 

Against her better judgement, she decided to try it. She needed something to make her stay here bareable.

 

 

After a few minutes, she looked at J'zargo. "I don't feel any different. Are sure this stuff is ...whoah." The room was starting to change color and her senses felt alive.

 

 

She met with J'zargo every few days and he would give her more skooma. Each time, her high got a little better.

 

 

She kept wondering why he was just giving skooma to her. "Maybe he's just being nice," she thought.

 

 

**** Later that week ****

J'zargo came into Alania's room, "So today is the 13^th of Sun's Height. If this one remembers correctly, you have a birthday. J'zargo has made something special for you." He tossed her a bottle of skooma.

 

 

"Thank you, but I've been wondering...you came here shortly before Alduin was killed. That means you've been here about ten years."

 

 

"Well, there was some trouble in Markarth and then a misunderstanding in Riften, and some trouble with some farmers. It is safer for J'zargo here, at least for now."

 

 

Alania sighed, "Did it involve skooma?"

 

 

J'zargo shook his head, "Absolutely, probably not, may be a little. This one must be going, enjoy your present, this one used a spell to amplify it." J'zargo left the room in a hurry.

 

"Strange cat." She sat on her bed and drank the skooma. She was already very relaxed when the effects started. She thought of home, her real home from when she was a young child.

 

 

In front of her, a jungle started to take shape. She saw a giant, but not a normal one. This one looked like a nord but massive. She was carrying a small child with her as she made her way through the jungle.

 

 

Alania desperatly tried to remember more but the effect of the skooma had worn off and she was especially tired. "I'll have to try that again," she yawned and fell asleep.

 

 

In her dream, she was being carried by the unusual giantess. It was like a memory. My dearest Tal'lania I am sending you through the portal with your father. I will give of myself to seal the portal and keep the dark one out. I will be with you in spirit and you can return again when the dark one is no more.

 

 

Alania was set down on the ground in front of her father and a large seal. She was puzzled because her dad seemed shorter than he should be and there was a crowd of people around who all seemed to be sad.

 

 

There was a brilliant flash of light and she was standing on top of a seal by an ocean and the air was cold. The jungle had vanished entirely.

 

 

Alania woke up in a cold sweat and went straight to the library to look up the seal. "Were my parents really giants? I can't remember their faces but if those are my parents, then who was I with when I was kidnapped?"
