So you may wondering what I'm doing by uploading a picture of my loadout in the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine multiplayer it's because I wanted to share the colour scheme I'm using for my marine. Now as I've stated before I'm a MASSIVE fan of Warhammer 40k, I loe the lore (most of the books I read are Black Library ones) and I've actually collected the miniatures  and played the tabletop game (not done either in a while though) and over the course of my time with the hobby (going back over ten years now, technically on and off though) I've had an idea for a chapter of Space Marines, they've gone through some massive changes since I came up with them changing everything from their name to their colour scheme (before I settled on a name and colour scheme I really like) it's to the point where I now have a 12 page long google doc (it wass 14 but I trimmed some stuff off it) detailing the background of my homebrew chapter the Steel Hawks which ties into the above image because I plan on sharing some of the stuff in my google doc with all of you. Most of the phrases I use will make more sense to 40k fans (or at least people with knowledge of 40k) than the rest of you. I may also be retreading some stuff I think I posted in an earlier entry but fuck it.

So the Steel Hawks are a relatively young chapter having been formed in M39 however their geneseed comes from an unknown source  but due to mutations in it (chalk it up to mechnicus tinkering) they have an overactive Sus-An membrane which puts them into suspended animation even if they only break a bone (the Sus-An membrane is only supposed to activate if the marine takes grievous, near fatal damage) and is a cause for their higher than normal attrition rate however the other unique aspect to their geneseed is that it has a higher than normal acceptance rate within aspirants, high enough to counter their higher than normal attrition rate.

The general organisation of the chapter differs from codex compliant chapters in that each company is completely self sufficient they have their own terminators, assault marines, scouts etc. however each company is shaped by its captain's ideology so a company with a captain who likes fast, hit and run warfare will have more assault marines and bikes but less terminators and devestators. Additionally the Hawks follow the Wolves in that their scouts aren't neophytes but are instead another form of veteran and like the Blood Angles (and their successors) they have something akin to a death company however the marines in this "death" company act more like the Wolve's Lone Wolves (more about the reason marines are like this later) and they aren't included in the force organisation and exist outside the companies.

Additionally the Hawks are extremely resistant to the warp to the point where they have very few (as in only ever in the single digits at any one time) Librarians and each Librarian is treated as a regular battle brother due to them being incredibly weak in comparison to their peers in other chapters, the current chief librarian is being hailed as the most potent librarian in the chapter's history due to him having a weak precognition power allowing him to see a couple of seconds into the future (about 3 seconds to be exact, strong enough to make him a force on the battlefield but not strong enough to be useful off of it.)

The chapter's belief structure is very much shaped by their homeworld, namely considering the Hawk to be far more noble than the Eagle and as such have replaced all Eagle iconogrophy in the Imperial Creed with Hawks s well as being very literal minded when naming things, additionally they could be considered to be the class clowns of the Space Marine chapters as they are constantly making jokes and sarcastic remarks as well as having an irreverent attitude to most things this has lead to them annoying some chapters, this attitude caused one of their captains to jokingly name their fortress monestary the Eyrie since they were named the Steel Hawks. They have a tradition of giving new neophytes a short sword on their induction, these swords have the neophyte's name engraved on it and are interred in the chapter's vault of the fallen rather than the marine's body the only marines who don't go into battle with these blades are the Apothecaries and the members of the Forgotten (the aforementioned "death" company) the former because the Hawks view Apothecaries as being too important to join the ranks of the Forgotten while the latter are Marines whose blades have been lost (not broken, a broken blade can be racovered and repaired) and as such on their deaths they will be Forgotten by the chapter (not their immediate battle brothers but by future battle brothers) these marines are fearless and are more than willing to walk into the harshest of fighting in a bid to find their deaths. The chapter uses Deathwatch service as a way of marking a marine for promotion, evertime a marine would advance in the ranks they are sent to the deathwatch to serve a short vigil this results in the more senior members of the chapter having a wide range of knowledge in fighting aliens and due to the specialist training they recieve in the deathwatch are some of the chapter's deadliest fighters. As an example of this a captain will have served four vigils in the deathwatch; one on becoming a sergeant, one on becoming a veteran (only sergeants can become veterans in the Steel Hawks,) one on becoming a veteran sergeant and finally one on becoming a captain.

Finally their chapter homeworld is a lot like ancient Terra was however the fauna on it are much larger and much more aggressive than the fauna on Earth was (with maybe the exception of the prehistoric fauna, but I'm more talking about the fauna on modern day, 21st century earth) but its not so dangerous that a human in iron armour with a pointy iron stick on a horse can kill it this is what prevents the world from being listed as a death world and is instead listed as a Feudal world. This feudal world is inhabited by three major people: the Arthurians, the Herdsmen and the Ashigaru. The Arturians are all the equivelant to the Kngihts of Britain however they inhabit the planets more temperate zones and have a tendency to go to war with the Ashigaru who have the society of feudal Japan inhabit the deserts and Savannahs of the world whereas the Herdsmen are nomads who inhabit the plains between the temperate forest areas and the warm savvanah/desert areas of the planet, the Hawks tend to recruit from the Arturians and Ashigaru as both of these groups are more warlike and have more fighting experience than the Hersdmen (however they have recruited from the Herdsmen once before as their current chapter master was a Herdsman.)

Finally their fortress Monestary (the aforementioned Eyrie) is a massive mountain sprouting out of the middle of the planet's deadliest Savannah and is home to the birds from with the Hawks take a part of their name from and is thought to be a pre-heresy supply cache as the Hawks found a large amount of pre-heresy vehicles and equipment leading to them having a large number of Mk. IV suits of power armour, enough Fellblades for one per company, multple squadrons of Xiphon interceptors as well as a fleet of jetbikes (the last of which were only recently discovered however) allowing the Hawks to be far better equipped than some older chapters. However their refusal to give up this treasure trove of pre-heresy tech to the adeptus mechanicus has caused some strain to their relationships with each other however its not strained enough to stop the admech from training new Steel Hawks techmarines. Additionally they haven't recieved any Primaris Marine reinforcements from Big Bobby G yet as they are currently above full strength and given their sotckholme syndromesque view of their Sus-an membrane defect may not accept these "perfected" marines anyway.

So that's a very much abridged version of the background for my homebrew chapter of Space Marines, I'm not spoilering it this time because it is the entire point of this entry so if you've gotten to this point you either read the whole thing (in which case congratulatons) or you skipped past it to see if I added anything interesting on the end. As a bit of good news however I've managed to get mods working properly on FO4 again so if I can be fuckd I might have FO4 images up at some point, however the mods are reliant on me using NMM (after MO failed to work for me) and I really did not want to have to resort to using that for my mods but needs must and all that.
