The World Cup 1

Was going to have an image with this but FO4 hasn't been behaving for me (keeps crashing every time I try to complete the Grand Tour quest) so this won't have any images but anywayas you can tell from the title this will be a post about the world cup, which I meant to have up yesterday but it's probably better this way since I only watched the Egypt vs Uruguay match and got the play by play for the Potugal vs Spain match but by doing it today I can also comment on the France vs Australia match. Basically I'll be talking about the matches that interest me.

So the first match, Egypt vs Uruguay was actually pretty boring. Suarez was piss poor, in fact pretty much the entirety of Uruguay's attack bar Cavani was poor However their defence saved them with Godin (the best central defender in the world) pretty much having to play as an attack to try and get a goal. Egypt on the other hand proved they aren't a one man team, if it wasn't for Uruguay's insane defense they would have been a few goals up however it's their defence and especially their goalkeeper where they truly shined managing to keep Uruguay at bay for 80 minutes and only conceding from a set piece. I still expect Uruguay to get through to the next stage but the other team getting out the group is still undecided at this point although with a fully fit Salah I still fancy Egypt to go through, despite Russia's performances against Saudi Arabia.

As for the Spain vs Portugal game as I said I only got the play by play (sometimes, when the app on my phone wasn't lagging) but from what I gathered it was a really good game with Ronaldo getting a hat trick drawing more comparisons with Messi (which I'm starting to think is unfair on both players due to them now effectively both being completely different types of player) and De Gea throwing some doubt over the whole "best goalkeeper in the world" label he's earned himself. My uncle (who's a Man U fan) was slagging De Gea off and I wanted to tell him he was probably just tired after carrying Man U for the entire season but otherwise a high scoring draw was a fair result and something I predicted. Not much to say other than I'm a bit annoyed that I missed it.

Finally France vs Australia. France where piss poor in this match and has cemented my opinion that Deschamps needs to be sacked for not calling up Lacazette and Martial. But more than that he played two center backs as full backs which does not work with Lucas Hernandez diving allover the fucking place and Pavard constantly controlling the ball only to pass it back stalling any attacks, trying to cram Griezmann, Mbappe and Dembele all into the team didn't help much either, Griezmann ISN'T an out and out striker, he needs a partner it's why he works so well with Giroud (the most beautiful lampost ever) and they only really picked up when Giroud and Fekir came on (a nice surprise to see Fekir come one) giving France a focal point in their attack (as well as a Messi-esque player in Fekir) to aim for which is how they got their second goal (Matuidi coming on also helped.) Australia didn't deserve to lose that game, I was very impressed by them, they defended well and their attacks did cause France some headaches, although Umtiti's and Varane's quality did allow them to deal with most of them (despite the hand ball.) France need to change things if they want to do better in the other games.

I started this blog entry before I went to work so I'll be adding the Iceland vs Argentina match to this entry (Nigeria vs Croatia will be in a different one, as of typing this I'm watching the match.)

Basically I was expecting Argentina to win 1-0 but I was pleasently surprised by the draw (I'm suporting France for this tournement, but whenever Iceland place a team that isn't France I'm supporting them) and it shows what teamwork can do for a team as they managed to make Messi look ordinary (After making Ronaldo look ordinary in the Euros) they've really impressed me with their defensive work and I honestly think that they make the group tougher. I'd like them to get to the next round just for their showing in the Euros. Argentina as ever are too reliant on Messi and it falls to Mascherano to bail them out, they play like a group of individuals rather than a team unlike Iceland and Spain back in 2010 (this is also France's problem right now) and the only reason I think they'll progress is because of Mascherano and the fact that this is one of Messi's last world cups.

So yeah sorry for the lack of images but that's my thoughts on some of the world cup matches.
