DYNAMIC MODESTY
(Please let me know if I seem to have forgotten anything or something seems wrong!)
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
Dynamic Modesty is a female-only feature and requires Dynamic Feminine Female Modesty Animations (aka DFFMA) from Nexus or Brimming Arousal Reveals Everything (BARE), otherwise it will be disabled in the MCM.
Any other mods that have covering animations such as Sexlab Survival, Deviously Cursed Loot, some of Baka Factory's mods, and so on CURRENTLY DO NOT use Advanced Nudity Detection's modesty system (and probably never will).
At the time of writing this guide, DFFMA version 4.0 is required, and Advanced Nudity detection must overwrite any conflicting DFFMA files. If a new version of DFFMA is released, it might not be compatible with AND depending on what was changed.
If you DON'T want to use Dynamic Modesty and want to keep DFFMA's original functionality, then either disallow AND from overwriting conflicting files or simply reset DFFMA back to default when in-game via the OAR (SHIFT+O) menu.
What does Dynamic Modesty do?
Enabling Dynamic Modesty in the MCM will make Advanced Nudity Detection interact with DFFMA in order to determine if Modesty Animations should be playing or not.
Advanced Nudity Detection comes with custom "User" configuration files for Open Animation Replacer that DFFMA will look for and use, so long as you allowed AND to overwrite DFFMA.
If you have not allowed AND to overwrite DFFMA, then Dynamic Modesty will not work as intended and you (probably) should just turn it off.
What causes female characters to cover themselves?
In Advanced Nudity Detection 2.4.0+ you can now choose if Males, Females, or Both cause the player to cover herself when exposed in front of them. This setting is on the Dynamic Modesty page: "Shy When Seen By"
There are 5 factors that determine if a female covers herself:
-
Is she in a state of undress? (Showing Bra/Underwear/Boobs/Pussy)
- Answer must be "Yes" to cover
-
Is she comfortable in that state of undress? (Is her Modesty Rank high enough to not care?)
- Answer must be "No" to cover
-
Is she aroused? (Is her arousal at or above the Cutoff value int he MCM?)
- Answer must be "No" to cover
-
Can any living, non-creature NPCs of the chosen "Shy When Seen By" sex see her?
- Answer must be "Yes" to cover
-
Is she wearing a Devious Devices arm restraint?
- Answer must be "No" to cover
If any of the required answers to those 5 questions are not met, she will not cover herself
What are Modesty Ranks?
Modesty Ranks determine how comfortable a character is with exposing herself. By default, every Player character will start off as "Modest", meaning they are not comfortable being in their underwear (or an underwear equivalent). However, you may give yourself a pseudo-randomized starting modesty rank if you wish.
There are two different sets of Modesty Ranks - Strict and Simple. If "Use Strict Rules" is enabled, then you are using the Strict rank set. Otherwise, you are using the Simple rank set. When you are using the Simple rank set, there are separate ranks for Top and Bottom modesty, and the requirements to upgrade and downgrade are easier to achieve.
You can customize how long it takes for you to go up or down ranks by configuring the "Immodesty Time Needed" setting in the MCM. The number in the MCM is how many days worth of time you need before changing ranks. However, your progress is tracked in hours, and the accumulated hours will appear in the MCM. Upgrading requires the number to be Positive, and downgrading requires the number to be Negative. Therefore, the default 14 day setting means you need 336 in-game hours of time dressed in the appropriate clothes before your rank changes (positive 336 is an upgrade, negative 336 is a downgrade).
For example: if my current Modesty Rank is 1, and I am using the Strict System, every hour I spend Showing Underwear and NOT showing Chest or Genitals increases the Modesty Timer by 1. However, every hour I spend keeping Bra, Underwear, Chest, and Genitals covered decreases the Modesty Timer by 1. If the Modesty Timer reaches 336, then I upgrade to Rank 2. However, if the Modesty Timer reaches -336, then I downgrade to Rank 0. This concept also applies to the Simple ranks.
Strict Modesty Ranks

- Upgrade by spending more time Bottomless (See "Permanent Shamelessness")
IMPORTANT NOTES
Simple and Strict rank progress is tracked separately from each other. This is because many combinations of Simple ranks can't translate to a proper Strict rank equivalent. Therefore, it's recommended to use your preferred system for an entire playthrough and not switch between systems mid-game unless you're willing to reset your progress, but it's not required to do that.
You will not lose any progress in a rank system if you switch systems mid-game. For example, if you switch from Simple to Strict, your progress in the Simple system will simply be frozen until you use the Simple system again or reset your modesty progress entirely.
A hidden flag in AND can block your modesty rank upgrade progress while enabled. This flag is only accessible to mod authors, and allows them to control your modesty progress if they need to.
You may "Jump" to different ranks in the Simple and Strict systems if desired via Toggles in the MCM. However, this is not recommended if you wish to get the full experience. Additionally, if your modesty upgrade progress is blocked, these "Jump" options will be disabled in order to prevent breaking AND or the mod enabling the restriction.
You may set the Minimum rank(s) your character is allowed to be, if desired. Again, this is not recommended if you wish to get the full experience.
Permanent Shamelessness
With the "Shameless Can Be Permanent" toggle enabled, you can become "Permanently Shameless" meaning you will never decrease modesty ranks again no matter how covered you are. You can only undo the rank by disabling the "Shameless Can Be Permanent" toggle (unless Hardcore is active, then you're REALLY stuck). This applies to both Strict and Simple modesty rules. The time needed to obtain the "Permanent" rank is spending double the "Immodesty Time Required" value set in the MCM satisfying the conditions outlined above. For example, if your "Immodesty Time Required" value is 14 days (336 hours) then you will need to spend 28 days (672 hours) satisfying the appropriate condition before obtaining the permanent rank.
Modesty Corruption
Modesty Corruption is the replacement for the old "Permanently Shameless" feature. While enabled, Modesty Corruption makes all progress gained towards the next modesty rank permanent. Your timers will never decrease, meaning any gained ranks will also never decrease.
Dynamic Modesty and NPCs
While Dynamic Modesty is activated, female NPCs will also be given pseudo-randomized Modesty ranks when they are detected and added to the tracking list by the mod for then first time. How this randomization works is described in the section below.
Most NPCs cannot Dynamically change their modesty. Trying to track many NPCs would simply be too demanding to be worth doing.
Followers may use Dynamic Modesty if it is enabled in the MCM. Followers will start off using the same modesty rules you are using when they are fist detected by the system. You may manually change their modesty rules using the Tweak options described below. Just like you, an NPC's progress in each system is independent of each other. An NPC that is shameless in the Strict rules might still be shy in the Simple rules and vice-versa.
Follower that have been dismissed or not recruited yet can store up to 7 days (168 hours) of modesty progress, so long as Dynamic Followers is enabled. If Dynamic Followers is disabled, all follower progress timers will be wiped upon exiting the MCM. If enabled again, their progress timers (and progress banks) will start again from the moment you re-enabled Dynamic Followers. (This is hard to juggle in the code and is the best compromise I've found so far)
You can tweak the current, default, and minimum ranks of specific NPCs by selecting them in the MCM, change if they are using Simple or Strict modesty rules, decide which NPCs have the ability to become permanently shameless, have modesty corruption, and choose what sexes they are shy around. You can also choose to reset or delete a specific NPC from the tracking list in the same group of options. Not all tweak options are useful for non-followers.
Resetting NPCs means resetting their Modesty Ranks back to the default ranks they were given when the system added them, or the default rank you assign them via MCM options.
Clearing/Deleting NPCs means completely deleting their Modesty data, meaning AND must re-detect and re-add them to the list which may generate new default ranks for the NPC (for Permanent Females, this is the same as resetting but with extra steps).
Rosa Round-Bottom is a special NPC that is Shameless by default unless you have saved her in the "Permanent Females" list, in which those settings will be imported instead. However, she will still be treated like any other follower and you can tweak or reset her without issues. Dynamic Followers must be enabled in order for Rosa to have Dynamic Modesty.
While Dynamic Modesty is disabled, any tracked NPCs will be removed from the tracking system if they are detected by an NPC scan again.

NPC Shy Sex Settings
You may select if Males, Females, or Both cause Female NPCs to cover themselves when sufficiently exposed by using the "NPCs Shy When Seen By" setting. However, NPCs also have two extra options: Random and Sexuality
"Random" will make Female NPCs that HAVEN'T started being tracked by the mod yet have a randomly selected shyness.
"Sexuality" requires Sexlab to be installed, and will grab the NPC's sexuality score from Sexlab and apply settings according to their sexuality (Straight = Males, Lesbian = Females, Bisexual = Both). If Sexlab is NOT installed and you select Sexuality, it will default back to Males.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once an NPC is registered, they will no longer be affected by the general "NPCs Shy When Seen By" setting. To change an NPC's shyness setting after they become registered, you must manually tweak them (or delete them from the tracking list and let the mod register them again, which will use the new general shyness setting).
Modesty Randomization
Modesty Randomization (for both NPCs and the Player) is based on two factors:
- The character's Race
-
The character's Confidence score
- Since the player doesn't have a defined "Confidence" score, you must assign one in the MCM.
First, the character's race is detected and rolls against the random chance of being a certain Modesty rank for that race, which is called their "Base Modesty". Then it modifies that result by the Confidence score minus 2. Confidence values can be between 0 and 4.
-
0 = Cowardly
- -2 Modifier
-
1 = Cautious
- -1 Modifier
-
2 = Average
- 0 Modifier
-
3 = Brave
- +1 Modifier
-
4 = Foolhardy
- +2 Modifier
Therefore, the final equation is: [Base Modesty] + [Confidence Modifier]
If the result is 0 or lower, then the result is 0 (Modest)
If the result is 6 or higher, then the result is 6 (Shameless)
This randomization calculates the Strict variant of ranks, but assigns the equivalent Simple ranks at the same time. Strict system ranks can always translate to Simple system ranks, but not the other way around. For example, Strict Rank 3 translates to Top Rank 2 and Bottom Rank 1.
For lore reasons, it is intentionally impossible for Altmer, Dunmer, and Nords to be Shameless via the randomizer.
For lore reasons, it is intentionally impossible for Bosmer to be Modest via the randomizer.
Custom Races will always be given a Base Modesty Rank of 0 by the randomizer.

Hardcore Mode
Hardcore Mode is a Player-Only setting for those who want to prevent themselves from "cheating". Hardcore Mode will be activated after enabling the proper toggle in the MCM and then closing the MCM. A warning will also pop up notifying you that it has been enabled. Therefore, if you accidentally click it, you have plenty of opportunity to uncheck it.
Once you close the MCM with Hardcore Mode enabled, nearly every Dynamic Modesty setting will be locked and it is impossible to undo unless you have a prior save, but you may still change all NPC modesty settings.
