Well, it took 3 weeks for Valve to reply to the initial review, but they finally approved the store page of Animus Non Grata! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3137190/Animus_Non_Grata/

Next steps:

- Get the demo page and build approved

- Add the demo to Steam's october edition of "Next Fest"

- Finalize the game and make an official 1.0.0 version

- Release Animus Non Grata Q4 2024 on Steam and Itch

Some got through it. If memory serves it all hails down to lewd images being freely accessible to minors and that led to problems for steam. So they block all adult games that use images that show too much skin, which by the nature of the topic is about all of them. At least that was the situation two years ago when this whole thing started. Not sure if it's possible to have a separate 'preview/advertisement' setup for your game for specific regions, but if that might be worth trying. Or simply contacting Steam and asking them what (if anything) can be done about it.
(Or try GOG, not sure if they are as senstive ... if only because they are much less in the focus of the authorities. ^^ Not being anywhere close to the market leader can have its advantages.)

So far it's possible to get some from other places. Still annoying, because it mostly hits lazy adults like me. ^^

Maybe VPN would work too? Although that might you banned.

Asking steam? Never thought about that. Would make an interesting conversation.

You mean it's all because of lewd screenshots 😨. I didn't know that Steam was the No 1 supplier for naughty pics in Germany 😅

When you upload a game to Steam, you must fill in an "adult content survey". Steam uses this content to determine which regions it will be banned from.

There is no way to make this game available on Steam for Germany without modifying the game itself to be less lewd. I.e. sensoring the images, and possibly rewriting the story. Unfortunately, for just Germany, the added effort is currently not worth it. Using a VPN or grabbing the game on itch.io is a solution, assuming Itch isn't blocked in Germany? The images on the Steam page aren't allowed to show nudity regardless of region, so the screenshots and other art assets seen on Steam do not contribute to a region ban at all.

Isn't it lovely that mass-murder games have always been legal, but if you want to "see how to repopulate", you're screwed.

😛

Thanks anyways.
