Yet another familiar face

Managed to get Skyrim working again (although from the looks of it Sevenbase has gone all weird so no nude shots for the forseeable future) and with minor issues so I decided to recreate some of my old characters (tried to create a new one with a new race but the game kept crashing everytime I started a new game) so like with oblivion I'll probably be uploading (very infrequent) shots of them.

But in addition to that some other stuff, got a "review" of Trails of Cold Steel (well impressions since I haven't finished the game yet) and some musings on Gundam.

First off Gundam:

So this is yet another thing I got to thinking about while I was at work and it was basically an attempt at making the ultimate Gundam protagonist (plus their mobile suit) although this is excluding the universal century timeline and G Gundam, why those two? because it pains me to admit I never managed to get through the first 2 or  3 episodes and G Gundam should be obvious. So we'll be taking SEED (and SEED destiny), 00, Wing and Iron Blooded Orphans. So first off the pilot, there are many to pick from from those 4 series but we'll go with captain mary sue mcbeamspam Kira Yamato who is effectively a designer baby super soldier and to make this even more bullshit it's Kira from SEED destiny so we're taking the "ultimate coordinator" and we're going to give him the Alaya-Vijnana system implants which he should be able to make full use of so that's our pilot sorted out, no for the mobile suit which will have a lot more upgrades. The base mobile suit we'll be using is the Strike Freedom which I'll admit I actually really like but that's not where we're going to stop, we'll be adding an interface for Kira's new Alaya-Vijnana sytem as well as not just a single GN drive, but giving the suit a twin drive system which will obviousl give him access to all the benefits that grants but we are not stopping there with our tricked out Strike Freedom oh no dear reader we'll also be giving it the ZERO system to further increase the bullshit, its interactions with the Alaya-Vijnana would also be really interesting. Also to go back to the pilot, I decided to choose Kira because of the SEED mode he has just for even more bullshit for this.

Just a bit of fun I had rattling around my head for a while, obviously the universal century stuff would allow me to add more bullshit but because of aforementioned reasons I didn't.

Now Trails of Steel

Spoiler

It's possibly one of the most anime like games I've played, yes even more than Code Vein which my mates and I have been calling weeb souls, although that isn't necessarily a bad thing considering some anime and manga have absolutely amazing stories (Full Metal Alchemist and Berserk both spring immediately to mind)  and from what I've played so far (and bearing in mind that this is the first game out of 4) the story is actually pretty good, despite some of the anime cliches and is mostly focused on the interactions between the core cast of characters and any disputes that might appear due to their differing world views and experiences (or in the case of Alisa and Rean a mistake that happened with a pitfall and him trying to save her.) The main story loop is your group of characters, called class VII, are at a military academy which is basically your usual Japanese high school that you'd see in any anime with a fairly powerful student council and club activities (honestly it feels like I'm playing a high school anime simulator sometimes) and being part of the special class VII (no not that kind of special, they're some of the smartest, most competent students in the school) has them with a slightly different curriculum where they travel around the country on field studies after being split into two groups, these are just an excuse to highlight some of the conflicts within the class with every second field study having Rean in the problem group to solve the issues (a fact that gets highlighted during the fourth) which makes for some fairly predictable groupings (although even I was thrown off by the grouping for the 4th.)

As for the combat system, it's turn based but your character's positioning plays a heavy part in it where enemies are more likely to attack the character closest to them so having your tanks on teh frontline and your squishy casters and healers on the backline is pretty much standard. if you've played one turn based combat system you've played them all really. However it also has something akin to the materia system in Final Fantasy, except it seems more fleshed out (at least to me, but I didn't really enjoy my time with FFVII so I'm not too familiar with it) where you can boost character's stats or give them new abilities based on what quartz (basically materia) you set for them.

Finally the music is actually pretty good, with each bit of BGM being well suited to each area. However I've found the tracks are generally forgettable and they don't get stuck in my head unlike tracks from Final Fantasy games or Nier, still they're more memorable than the shlock that you get from western "AAA" games nowadays.

Finally Storm
