synthetic slidergroups builder -- first draft

In my previous entry, I mentioned a bunch of goals for dealing with bodyslide under mo2.   I had made a small amount of progress towards them -- I implemented a script to give me a "synthetic groups", so basically a single bodyslide group which represents all bodytalk3 outfits (including the base body) and another for all fusion girl outfits (including the base body).   After working with this, I still need to address some of the other goals there. But, mostly, doing them man

Taming MO2 BS

BodySlide is wonderful and terrible, especially inside of MO2.   I've a few hundred mods deployed in mo2 and maybe a third of them are active (because, like, I was using CBBE for a while, and now I'm trying FG .. thankfully BodyTalk is pretty stable and I have been comfortable with it... so far. Swimmer body ftw.)   Anyways... problems (part 1):   Zaps are a pain (and inadequate -- sometimes I want to move stuff from one mod to another mod, and zaps do not suppor

Too much software out there which "knows" my plans

Today I ran into a messed up mod config issue.   I have partially tracked it down to BodySlide running under MO2 writing FemaleBody.nif to an entirely unexpected location.   (This was not where I had configured MO2 to direct bodyslide files, not in the game directory, not anywhere that BodySlide itself would know about. Instead, it was writing to where MO2 stores the CBBE mod. Possibly this was a fallback location under some error condition. But the consequence was that the b

BodySlide TODO

BodySlide is a slick piece of work - it reflects some incredible patience and dedication in its construction.   Nevertheless, there's always room for improvement. And, there's a few aspects of its UI which I would like to fix (if I would work up some of that necessary patience and dedication...):   Multiple nifs (sometimes from multiple mods) can write to the same destination, conflicting with each other. BodySlide lets you make choices about this, using a popup modal dial

Game Arousal Mechanics, again

Partially because sexuality is so intertwined with everyday life, it's... tricky to reason about. But games mostly exaggerate some things while neglecting other things, so...    Anyways, here's what I currently want to see in a game:   High arousal: health regen, magic regen, social contexts (not combat -- mostly -- see below), drains stamina, focus on specific "attractive" people.  Once high enough, out-of-focus options become excluded (perhaps conversation options grayed ou

Types of Body Mod Compatibility: A Rant (early draft)

Bethesda Games have accumulated a lot of fragmented modding communities, and various body mods, especially for female player characters.   And, there are varying degrees of compatibility between these accumulations of work:   Compatibility across games. Some tools (like NifSkope) offer some forms of this. Compatibility across gender. Again, this is an issue with tools. Compatible body shapes (this is what makes clothing [that's not body-replacer clothing] work

Orgasm and arousal game mechanics - simplified?

Orgasm should heal the character in some way, and consume some renewable resource (magicka, stamina, ...), it should also consume some arousal. Repeated orgasms quickly become exhausting and gameplay should reflect that.   Arousal should ideally tie in to conversation mechanics.  (Very low arousal should make sexual activities seem repellent. Very high arousal should make non-sexual activities seem repellent.) But conversation mechanics are complicated.   Combat, of course, t

VATS targeting - a capsule recap

The original VATS concept was simple: give the target control of the bullet.   Using a mix of short microwave, thermal and optical tracking systems - all of them vestigal, for economic and packaging reasons, but the combination usually worked - the bullet would identify and lock onto the target, when fired and residual energy would be used to fine tune the targeting.   Of course, this kind of ammunition was soon made illegal, by international treaty. One of the biggest concerns was that thes

A semi-realistic "skimpy armor" concept

If you look at real life military units, females generally get a fair bit of pushback because of their lack of upper body strength. Meanwhile, an "obvious" remedy for that issue would be powered exoskeleton.   (You can also do robot designs (for example "big dog") but people have adaptability which machines lack.)   So, ok, this concept winds up looking something like medical braces with a dorky looking battery pack, but real life stuff does tend to look dorky (except where it works). Also,

Armor

I am currently dissatisfied with all armor and armor mods, and I wanted to try and write down some of how I would like things to be.   First... I like regular armor and I like skimpy armor and I like in-between armor, and I even like the occasional nude or near-nude armor. (Nude armor, by the way, is historically accurate, for some regions and for some periods of history. But skyrim is considerably colder...)   So, how can I have all of these?   Let's take skyrim, where we have heavy armor

Game landscapes

One thing I daydream about involves how to represent game landscapes.   It seems to me that a few layers of procedurally generated content could be a quick way of getting a game going. I think you need several levels of this kind of abstraction to make things look right.   So, like, for example, maybe you have a terrain generator. And you generate some huge body of terrain and look for features which fit your story, then grab the mesh of maybe 9 random number seeds which define your grid and

Arousal Game Mechanics

Everyone knows about sex and sexuality, but coming up with fun game mechanics can be difficult.   One approach which works has to do with scripted relationships. These tend to work best when they have some basis in real world relationships - if something really mostly happened, it can seem real.   But scripts can quickly grow into out-of-control complexities and they also need a good backdrop.   In fact, good games tend to have game mechanics (and art) tackled on several levels of abstract

Disclaimer

WARNING   I do NOT support, nor endorse sticking swords in people. Not only that, but I *ALSO* do not support cutting off their heads with axes.   The separation between fantasy and reality is a required one, and those unable to make that distinction belong locked up from the world where they can do no harm to themselves or others.   Seriously.   It had to be said.

Bodyslide woes, chapter 2

So... I had a variety of people (including Cell! ) tell me about the Shape->Move Shape option in body slide. [i think this should be mentioned in the tutorial? But it's not quite enough...]   So, first I need to open the nif file in nifskope, and locate the Translation values on the NiTriShape nodes. They are all zeros for the "body" but they are something else for the clothing (I added a red oval to the screenshot, here, so to try and emphasize the numbers - they are most of the way towar

Bodyslide woes

I am trying to figure out how to use bodyslide/outfit studio.   Somehow I seem to run into problems which I cannot find anyone else even talking about.     Do not mind the uv mapping issue - that apparently is normal (bwahahahahaha... why am i the only one laughing here?) for unp->cbbe conversions in bodyslide.   Instead, I am talking about how the shoulders of the dress are where the reference model's knees are. Why is that?

Start here

What a mess.   So... I happen to like game concepts pertaining to love, and relationships. Meanwhile, the typical game is more about killing and violence. Oh, and life is insane, in how we deal with all of these issues.   So never mind that. My blog subtitle looks like a mess.   So never mind that... I shall ruminate, instead.   When I first played skyrim, there were various conversational issues which I wish had played out differently. I wanted NPCs to admire me. Or, failing that, to re
